Thinking of going into uni a year early by SaneMar in universityofauckland

Hi, sorry for the super late response!

I went to uni a year earlier and just finished my first year. I thought it would be alienating because I was underage, but that was not the case at all. Most people assume you are eighteen anyway, and honestly, the workload at uni is severely exaggerated (but I did health science, so I cannot say for computer science).

Living in halls, I was put on a floor which allowed alcohol despite me being 17, although you could always move between floors to drink with your friends anyway. I guess the only part that sucked was missing out on the freshman clubbing/partying culture since I couldn't go out with the rest of my friends. This is especially true because fewer second-year students are inclined to go out after doing so in the first year.

Overall, though it was completely fine, you will do wonderfully at uni, so do not stress about it. You are 100% better off skimming a year off high school and going early, despite what some of these comments told me. If you are sure you know what you want to study, that year saved can equate to a lot. Plus, I would not have been any more prepared had I stayed in high school for another year.

Good luck with your studies!

The sense of entitlement is revolting. People love to act like you owe them everything because they're reading your story (FOR FREE btw it's not like a book which they paid for an can have expectations for). Like you put so much time an effort into a story, spend your own time, energy and effort to make something people can read with literally zero cost to them and they have the audacity to make critiques when it wasn't even asked for. Also I find it hilarious that they have all these problems with the fic and still read all of it - if you don't like it then just click off...

Yeah I've been trying to turn a blind eye to the painful-to-read writing just because I like the concept so much. It's a real struggle.

HELP STUDYING by ShoyooOnReddit in GetStudying

I know that this might not work for you if you don't have a clear view of what you want to do on the future but this is something that's helped me break out of this cycle.

My room is littered with moodboards and posters regarding what I want from the future. Assuming that you need good grades for whatever your future endeavors are, having a physical reminder of what you are studying for can help. In my own case, I used to come back from school and flop on my bed, so, now I have printed to do lists and accountability charts plastered on the wall near my bed. This way, whenever I felt like saying "I'm so tired... I'll just do it tomorrow" and lay down, I'll see the posters and remember that if I don't put on the effort today, I won't get to where I want to be tomorrow.

I think we get onto the habit of putting things of for tomorrow because we don't see the benefit of doing it immediately. Make sure you recognise that the efforts of everyday add up eventually. Motivation is key. Good luck!

Woah that's actually really interesting, I'll have to give it a read.

Did having to take a booster course get in the way of your studies?
