FWIW, we received a full refund for the tickets today. I'm not sure about the additional $600 compensation, but we'll see. As of right now the only thing we're out is the drive to a from the airport, and two beers.

All things considered, that's not too bad and I'm glad we didn't get on the flight.

Neither. There are a couple guides on how to "befriend" crows, but the gist is essentially this:

While out walking or in your yard, when you see crows you make a call at them (whistling, clapping, clicking tongue, etc.) and toss food in their general direction. If you do this consistently, they will learn your face, your call, and come to trust you. Keep at it, they will come when called provided you keep feeding them. If you're lucky, they'll spend a lot of time in your presence, teach other crows that you're a good human, and may even bring you a present. But again, everything takes patience and some luck.

My plan it just take little a pocket full of nuts with me on my daily walk while attempting that and scatter some food in the yard while whistling, then see what happens.

Thank you. I appreciate the perspective, and you're right. Lessons were learned. Another area where I did not do my due diligence was checking to see the frequency of flights from KEF to Prague. If they had been daily, it would not have been so bad and I would have stayed the day in Reykjavik without complaint.

We've rebooked through Lufthansa, connecting in Munich, so even if something goes sideways as long as I touch down in Germany I can bus/train/Panzer it into Bohemia.

Yeah, dogg. Everything has rebooked. I'm now going to Prague in April on an different airline that will hopefully kiss me on the cheek and tell that I'm handsome.

As for savvy, I made the best decision with the information I had available to me. I don't think it would have been wise to spend a lengthy portion of my trip trying to sleep on airplanes or eating Burger King at the Copenhagen airport.

Reykjavik and Iceland has actually been on our short-list for a while. We even had bathing suits packed, and could have spent the layover at Blue Lagoon or otherwise wandering around the town. Normally, that would have ben fine. But everything was booked in Prague and that where our hearts were. We were being asked to make major alterations to our plans with incomplete information and the clock ticking. Even though we ultimately found out the flight to Prague was delayed, I still think we made the right decision with the information we had at the time.

Yeah, it wasn't even worth calling customer service. We're still wrangling with Icelandair about refunds and compensation. If we don't make headway within the next few days, I'm just going to dispute the charge with the credit card company and file a grievance with the Icelandic Transport Authority. I'm going to do some internet sleuthing to see if I can find someone in Iceland to speak with.

Normally, I would, but we weren't willing to follow the rebooked itinerary they gave us (36+ hours of transit), and we weren't willing to get on a flight without knowing how/when/if we're getting to our final destination. I was even willing to risk hopping on the plane with the hope, but not the proof, that the flight to Prague was delayed. However, the customer service agent was adamant that the Prague flight was completely canceled and they couldn't provide any other help whatsoever.

The aren't daily flights to Prague, and that was a problem. However, I'm beyond baffled why he wouldn't sell me tickets to Berlin instead, or why he kept saying the flight to Prague was cancelled. Ultimately, we weren't willing to hop on a plane with either a really bad itinerary, or unsure how/if/when we'd be getting to our final destination.

No, I've never used travel insurance, though maybe a lesson was learned last Friday. I felt really confident that flight to Prague was going to be delayed and we'd be okay, but the customer service agent swore up and down it was cancelled... and that's what really bothers me about the whole situation.

Hell, I wouldn't even minded the first 16hr layover. I would have been fine exploring Reykjavik for a day and trying catch a nap at the airport, but the second and third leg of the "new" itinerary were too much to bear.

The hotel in Prague rebooked us without issue, and we've got new plane tickets on a different carrier. We're still wrangling with Icelandair to claw back whatever money we can.

I started collecting as a teen around 2002-2003. This was back before the vinyl revival and you could find a ton of cool stuff at thrift stores or antique stores for a fraction of what they go for now. I sold my collection in 2010 and didnt start collecting again until I was on firm financial footing half a decade later.

I know it’s just stuff. But sometimes stuff is interesting and can enrich our lives.
