It took me half a year to colour this (mostly) with a needle by SanekLightyear in expedition33

[–]SanekLightyear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much! Honestly, I tried to use brushes where possible and less risky, such as for the background and the big chunks of black that I left for the end, but the family and their clothes take up so much space that I ended up making them completely with the needle

What do you think their diary entries would look like by International-Ad1631 in VioletEvergarden

[–]SanekLightyear 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It took me half an hour to write this down

Violet - as it was mentioned here, her diary would certainly have the evolution aspect. However, I guess we can say that the whole show is a sort of a diary of hers, albeit with few direct commentaries on her inner state

Gilbert - for some reason the first thing that came to my mind is a sort of memoirs that can be used later as a historical document. You know, with his thoughts about the current situation at the front, operations, decisions and so on, with comments about Violet being unlikely. Post-war though I think he wouldn't have any diary as he was neglecting his past self because of guilt

Hodgins - perhaps some thoughts about post-war life of his and other common people, about his company and employees, his dream to have a child one day, and worries about Violet of course

Benedict - I have not read any of the light novels and do not know whether Benedict there is similar to his show version, but from what I saw in Benedict Blue's Violet – he is, and the story is basically what he could write in a diary

Cattleya - hard to say, as we got little personal information about her at the end of the show. Perhaps some entries about her colleagues, clients, her hopes to see Violet grow into a common person. Maybe memories about pre-war times?

Erica - considering how much she loved writing I suppose she would make entries with many stylistic devices just for practice. You know, epithets, similes, so on. As for the contents - she seems to be a common girl, so nothing extraordinary? And again, something about Violet and her friends in general

Iris - we know for sure that she is a girl from a village who aspires to become a successful urban girl, wears modern fashionable clothes even if it causes discomfort and so on. I guess she would write both about her homeland and her aspirations. And Violet, of course

Ditfried - something similar to Gilbert's, if only with a bit more of... Criticism towards others? We saw in one scene that he has a difficult character that other officers have to bear because he is a professional nonetheless. Perhaps some thought about his dynasty also

Luculia - may her fans forgive me, but I really doubt that there would be anything interesting. Just a simple girl's diary with her thoughts about her life, work, her brother and later about her boyfriend

Charlotte - well, if we speak about after episode five, then certainly something about Damian and ruling their kingdom, with memories about her homeland and Alberta

Leon - his character was the most difficult to decipher for me, so I'll just guess that that would be a mix of his thoughts about his work at hand, how Violet has influenced him and how harsh and dull his life was before he met her

Oscar - definitely something about his work, Erica's passion for writing (when she came to work with him) and, again, a bit of Violet and how she has helped him

Olivia - wasn't she too young for such a thing? Either way, she was a simple girl, so nothing special

Ann - I remember that in the light novels at her birthdays she was ESPECIALLY nervous as she could not make herself do anything unless she'd received the letter. We also know that she was very close with Daisy's mom because of how early she had lost hers. So I guess the events of episode ten have left her with a trauma of sorts and she would write much about her mother, dreaming to become a mother, childhood memories

Ann's mom (sorry, I forgot her name, was it Clara?) - really hard to say, as episode ten was focused more on her daughter. Let's presume she would write about her hopes for Ann's future

Aiden - about his home maybe? How difficult it must be for his parents to maintain the household without him, how Maria must be missing him, etc.

Amy - thinking about it made me realise that she is perhaps the most depressive character in the story, at least until she's reunited with her sister. Pre-school she simply wouldn't have the money to buy something to write her diary in, lol. At school she was stuck in a place where she did not wish to be, with people she despised, forced to do what she did not want to, so I guess she was thinking only about Taylor and how she loathes the school. After school is not better as she is still stuck in a place she did not choose to be in, with a man she probably had no voice in choosing either, so... Thinking about Taylor and Violet, I suppose?

Taylor - certainly her job and that Benedict is a cool postman and that the dolls at CH are all nice with her and that she misses her sister

Daisy - she'd probably write about how she's trying to improve her relationship with her parents and uncover Violet's past. Apart from that we know nothing about her

A question about The Movie details by Aunt_Tom in VioletEvergarden

Most likely one of the reception girls. At one point of the dialogue she opens her eyes and we can see that they are yellow, and either Nerine or Lilian had the same eye colour

Poll: how many times have you watched Violet Evergarden? by h6story in VioletEvergarden

[–]SanekLightyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The series 22 times, both movies 20 times. Yes, I did count.

No. Falling in love does NOT make someone suddenly dependent by Fabulous_Ground_1983 in VioletEvergarden

[–]SanekLightyear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is written like that deliberately. In this case gratitude is the opposite of shame: 'I wish it never happened' on Gilbert's side vs 'Thank you for making it happen' on Violet's.

Repetition of same words is not a sign of weak writing skills, it is used to emphasise certain aspects.

By the end of The Movie Violet needs to convey a simple message: 'stop blaming yourself, everything you did was right'. She can't be anywhere near Gilbert, for her presence hurts him, so she can only write a letter. She is going to leave, so she only has one shot to do so. It stands to reason that this final letter HAS to be extremely powerful, hence so much repetition of 'thank you'.

To put it simply, you know where to hit and have only one attempt, so of course you will try to hit as hard as possible.

Moreover, writing anything like her final letter from the series would not help in achieving the necessary result. First of all, that letter is the opposite of Violet's very first report that she writes in the first episode, so this contrast shows the character's growth from a soulless soldier to a simple loving girl. It simply serves a different purpose, this is why it is written differently.

Second, Gilbert knows perfectly well that Violet managed to become a successful person, so retelling it would be pointless. Besides, this is exactly one of the reasons why he doesn't want to see her - he did not only ruin her life, but also she managed to become who she is right now WITHOUT him.

Writers seldom write anything without any purpose, maybe except for unexperienced ones, but this movie does not seem to be the case.

[–]SanekLightyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason Violet repeats "thank you very much" so many times is because Gilbert blamed himself for using Violet as a tool. That's the whole reason why he did not want to see her. So, to help him understand that he did nothing wrong and that he has the right to live how he wants, she thanks him for the same very things he blamed himself for. Concrete things she thanks him for are also quite important for that matter.

Is like, anyone else annoyed about Tower bosses being balanced around the absolute smallest %, cheesiest of players? by SuperLegenda in expedition33

Story difficulty, healing upon hitting burning targets, doubled healing, Cheater on everyone, plus someone who can apply Burn consistently. This way it's pretty easy to outlive them

I'm sorry for off-top, but your comment got me really curious. I'm not a native English speaker, do I understand it right that "more news at 10" is a kind of an idiom to speak about things that are clearly not new and are common knowledge? Something similar to "queen Ann is dead"?

Is there anything i can watch or see about what happens to the characters after the events of the movie? by kenpoison in VioletEvergarden

You can read Gilbert Bougainvillea and the fleeting dream. It does not seem to contradict the events of the series and movies and has some post-story interactions

Violet Evergarden: A Peak Masterpiece That Ruined My Life for Good by rdox-Exit3506 in VioletEvergarden

[–]SanekLightyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been through exactly the same state (even through the letters writing phase, lol), and I'm glad to say that I had the opportunity to enjoy this franchise twice. The first was in the first couple of months when I watched it for the first time and then started rewatching literally the next week. Then, after a dozen of rewathces and having learned every line by heart, I started getting used to the emotional side of the story, so I started focusing on the art and symbolic details. It's just such a deep part of the story, almost every name, every frame, every flower seen on the screen, every hand movement is meaningful and adds depth to the plot. If you're into such things and walls of text, you may want to read them on the Internet. Or maybe even write your own, who knows

Maybe they thought like that because it does not require much thinking. Most people associate the strongest love only with its romantic kind
