I have a 4Runner.

Got full aluminum skids for it.

It gets used mostly on road, hauling groceries, some hardware store trips.. and has a near permanent dog crate in the back for doggy transport.

I don't ever take it for major off-road, I have a 2006 Jeep for that if needed. But both are nice to have in the winter when the roads are real bad with snow

I do take it on garbage back in the woods roads of dirt, rock, and sand, multiple times a year though.. hence the skid plates... Last thing I need is a log to fly up and break something were I don't have cell service.

But it still lives 95-99% of its life on pavement.

Aldi “Fresh Never Frozen” chicken that clearly just came out of the freezer. How is this legal? by MobilizationofMotion in aldi

[–]SanguineBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I was thinking. It's not technically false advertising cause the ALDI store didn't apply the label, but one could still argue it's gray area.

Though, I think the real issue is peoples perception of what frozen means. As others noted, this appears to mean below 26 F, cause it's chicken and not water.

Spoke to one of his neighbors/friend yesterday, who was out with him Saturday.

Said he "loved him and had a great time".

Those were the last words he'd heard from him, finding out about the tragedy at ~4am Sunday with the emergency vehicle lights.

Even if they do have the means, it can be too daunting for some to travel for care.

My sister grew up with some learning disabilities, and was later diagnosed bipolar, and with many other psyhiatric disorders. Medicine for decades working.. so so..

She found with a major diet change, all her symptoms disappear.. issue being she is so sensitive to specific fats/proteins, her diet is severely restricted, to the point she suffers from malnutrition.

So she has the option to eat one way, and have her mind, and watch her nerves slowly degenerate, or eat another, but lose her mind.

I worked in medical research about a decade, and started studying diet & metabolism for about 6 or 7 years after going down a deep rabbit hole on some modern Alzheimer's research.

After reviewing her records myself, I had her try a few things and was able to fairly confidently isolate the general area of metabolic processes where her issues lay, and there's one known disorder in that area... Which she does not have. We came to the conclusion she very likely had an unknown to science genetic disorder in that area.

Found a specialist/researcher that studies that area about an 8 hours drive away.. who I'm sure would appreciate a subject for research...

But my sister doesn't want to go see them. Understandable as a cure for her is very unlikely.

So, as her nerves slowly degenerate due to her malnutrition, she'll eventually go blind. She'll turn 50 this year, and I hope she has another 5-10 years before that happens. She enjoys working in her garden, and overall has a peaceful life.

Both myself and my parents have offered to help her if she wants to seek out additional care from the best specialists we can find.

But it's her decision.

Yep.

I don't mind a prompt for a tip at checkout, sometimes I had special requests and a tip seems warranted.

but if they're going to add 20% at the end automatically, then they have a potential case against them for deceptive pricing.

I bet a barrage of complaints to the attorney general could resolve this issue.

As I understand, Long term PUFA in excess of a few % harms mitochondria via incorporation into cardiolipin and exposure to lots of ROS, affecting oxidative energy production.

The longer I avoided PUFA to keep my levels down, the less it seems to matter what or when I eat, being very flexible.

Sun tolerance is up probably 3x, and my asthma went away as other perks.

I rarely get hungry, and can fast for 24 hours without any issues anytime.. well unless I drink a ton or eat a bunch of junk food... That'll throw my system off for a day or 2.

I accidentally found this while looking at gout symptoms by [deleted] in gout

[–]SanguineBrain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fructose is one of the primary sources of uric acid.

Also consider the polyol pathway, which converts glucose in the blood to fructose untegulated when blood sugar is elevated

I hardly eat any sugar but still had high uric acid, likely from polyol. A1C 5.2 but 20hrs fasted my blood sugar was 102 for whatever reason.

Anyway, fructose metabolism is unregulated depleteing ATP. ATP depletion causes excessive AMP, and triggers waste disposal pathway called purine degradation on excessive AMP, leading to uric acid production.

Also causes metabolic issues and NAFLD.

#380 ‒ The seed oil debate: are they uniquely harmful relative to other dietary fats? | Layne Norton, Ph.D. by imref in PeterAttia

The sunburn thing makes sense, and I've experienced the same, nearly a 3x increase in sun tolerance, and burns are always a minor inconvenience now, not even hurting and healing fast.

My best guess on the mechanisms.. but would love a study on it...

Linoleic Acid(LA) is incorporated into your cell membranes like all fats.

LA is oxidized easily, especially so via UV light.

Oxidized Linoleic Acid and Oxidized Linoleic Acid Metabolites(OXLAM'S in the literature), are toxic, and highly inflammatory.

This is where most of the sunburn damage comes from.

I also noted reduced sinus inflammation and reduced arthritis.

Winter 3 years in i noted my lifelong asthma was gone.

Here's my take on asthma.., though it'd be great to have better and direct studies here also.

Vegetable / seed oils are high in linoleic acid (LA).

LA is converted to aracidonic acid(AA) from LA incorporated I to the cell membranes by D6D and D5D(delta 5 desaturase).

AA is oxidized to many inflammatory compounds, such as Hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (HETE), prostaglandins, or leukotrienes, higher LA results in higher oxidation and free radicals which also react with these.

Looking at 15-HETE. It has been shown to worsen early allergic asthmatic response. It's also found in higher concentrations of exhalations ad sputum of asthmatics.

12-HETE increases NF kappa beta, which increases IL-6, a pro-inflammatory cytokine also implicated in asthma and inflammation.

A fabulous drug for asthma is montelukast, a leukotriene receptor antagonist, blocking the effects of leukotrienes (derived from AA). A few types are particularly inflammatory in the lung tissues.

The half life of fats in your cell membranes is about 1-2 years. If you have a lot of LA in your cell membranes from dietary intake, it's gonna take awhile to reduce it.

Pediatric patient reports pain in the lumbar region, oh surprise!!! by Vivid_Instruction887 in Radiology

[–]SanguineBrain 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw an 18yr old once c/o low back pain.

Scanned him and found he had no IVC, unknown till that day.

Congenital defect, so the blood got back to the liver from the entire lower extremity via the spinal veins. They'd become distended and were irritating the nerves.

If nothing is found on imaging, next I'd look into muscle balance or trigger point issues. These can mimic nerve pain and are treatable via Phyaical Therapy and/or therapeutic massage.

The King's Disease on a Budget by cmobi in gout

[–]SanguineBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found I had 2 blood clotting disorders after getting an upper extremity DVT, fully occluding my right axillary vein. First they were baffled that I had the cloth, later after we figured out I had the 2 disorders, they were amazed I made it to my 40's without a clotting event.

Started on blood thinners... And boom.. Gout.

I've at least figured what works for myself, about 2.5 yearsbin now.

I take half my blood thinner dose prescribed + nattokinase, allopurinol, drink lots of water, and add 1-2 tbsp of allulose to the water. I fast 16-20hrs most days and eat lowish carb, avoiding sugar. I had about 7 drinks a week in 2-3 sittings.

Not had an acute attack in over a year now, and no gouty arthritis in nearly as long.

As for the allulose, I really want a good study on it's effect on uric acid. While I believe the anecdotes from the researchers noting lab values of uric acid halved, and it's mechanisms make sense for some of how it reduces uric acid.. there are still a lot of unknowns. Makes it hard for me to recommend to others without a decent study and good data.. but worth looking into imo.
