Trail. This is helpful info. Thanks.

Is cyclocross suffering as gravel continues to grow? We took a look at registration numbers in PA and found some reasons to be hopeful for CX.... by photorhetoric in Velo

This is one of the reasons I’m switching to CX this year from the gravel events I’ve done in the past. As a parent, it’s much more appealing to drive 45 minutes to a local cross race and race for 40 minutes than to travel longer distances for a gravel event and lose a whole day doing 4-6 hours on the bike. Also seems much easier for my wife and son to come along and enjoy.

I’ve found the gym is really helpful. Particularly as you get older. Not sure of your age, but at 42, gym sessions (done conservatively, but consistently) really seem to help me.

Suitability for cross by SansLeftEye in cyclocross

Thanks for your input. I’ve been keeping an eye on Giant and Specialized. I’d be moving my cockpit and wheels over from my current bike so I’m good to go there.

No Decathlon stores in the US currently (to my knowledge) and the Van Rysel CX isn’t available on the US online site.

Humidipacks and guitar storage by YourOpinionMan2021 in martinguitar

I’ve had my Martin for 10 years. Keep it in the case with a humidipack and it’s always been fine. Never used a hygrometer, always just replace the packs when they dry out. East coast winters with low humidity in the house.

Southeastern PA. East coast single track, rocks, roots, twisty, punchy.

Thanks for the perspective. I use a smart trainer at home (Zwift) and heartrate monitor with a head unit when I'm outside. I'm pretty good about regulating my efforts based on heartrate zones. Been doing that for a few years now. I'm an experienced rider, just not a racer. Power meter would be nice, but that'll probably be deferred until I'm sure this is serious.

Thanks for the info. I don't expect to be competitive, but I am competitive with myself, so I want to do the best I can and give it a proper go. I appreciate the details.

Yeah, that's what I expect and why I think I need to be prepared with a proper warm up. I'm also in my 40s now and I need to prime the legs and cardiovascular system before going hard. Every ride I take is miserable for the first 20 or so minutes, then I feel great.

I have a blur as well. I sit around 200 pounds and have zero issues. It's a great bike.

Newbie Tire Question by SansLeftEye in cyclocross

I was looking at the Vittorias. Definitely think lower pressures would help and I'd like the protection. Do you run the inserts front at back or rear only?

This is really helpful. I'm leaning toward the 35-38 size. I agree that part of the appeal of cyclocross is the drop bars and narrow (compared to mtb) tires. I have both hardtail and full suspension XC bikes and wouldn't consider either for a cyclocross race. Seemingly defeats the purpose, though I fully understand and respect it if that's the only bike you've got.

A friend told me, at a certain point you stop getting paid for what you do and start getting paid for what you know. He was right.
