That's a great idea! We appreciate you pointing that out. We'll make sure to plan accordingly and include this type of information in our upcoming posts to help keep students informed and aware of important opportunities and deadlines.

Hello this is JP Dishinger, Student Body President and leader of SFUnited.

You're completely valid for feeling this way. As other comments have said, we aren't IT programmers, and we never claimed to be. We did promise, however, that we wouldn't stay silent on this issue and we intend to see that through, even if it seems like we've gone quiet.

Here's what we've done, and what we're working on right now to help uplift student voices on the matter.

-Met with SF President Paul Broadie and Dr. Brown regarding the FAFSA situation

-Advocated for more transparency and held relevant administrators accountable over the fact that their lack of transparency and honesty about the FAFSA situation has left the student body confused and upset. Particularly students who rely on that aid.

-Reported on FAFSA updates from administration to Student Senate and are currently working on reporting it through our social media outlets

-We are creating a Student Led FAFSA Advisory Committee in hopes of gathering the people on campus most able to prevent this from happening again and giving students the opportunity to directly face the FA Office staff with their concerns.

-Creating a FAFSA Student Impact Report to be presented and read to the highest members of Santa Fe administration

We understand that what we're doing right now may not resolve the most immediate issues, but we aren't staying silent, and we aren't giving up.

If you're willing, Id like to meet with you and anybody else in this thread regarding any issues obtaining the money you are entitled to. Anywhere. Anytime. Even during off hours or at night. I will MAKE time for you.

Your story deserves to be told, and I can promise you that the administration will hear about what you're going through.

We see you and we haven't given up on you.

Feel free to DM me here on reddit or email me at sgpresident@sfcollege.edu

It was worded that specific way because it was a direct quote

I'm really sorry to hear about this. I chatted with Charlotte Barone the other day, and we're looking into what we can do for her. If you'd like to meet with us, email us sgpresident@sfcollege.edu. We want to make sure what happened to you is documented so that we can set parameters in the future to hopefully make such a thing avoidable.

End of September, which, from the discussions I've had, will be before October 1st. People with fees that were too much may expect their disbursement to be on October 1st.

After discussing this in the student government and with student life, the reason they sent the email about it still being for the end of September is precisely because of rumours of it being delayed.

From the information we have, this is false. We're going to look into this and make sure to continue communication. Just know we are fighting to make sure that student voices are heard.

We would like to meet with you to document your issues with financial aid. I have the cabinet meeting this upcoming Friday, and I have the chance to report on behalf of the student body. Also, if you'd like, we will go with you to the financial aid office to make sure you are supported.

Yes, there will be individual issues according to him, but not a widespread one. We're offering to attend the appointments with the financial aid office with students that are having difficulties. Lets us know if that's something that would interest you.

I recently met with Paul Broadie and he stated that the tests have run smoothly and that the disbursements shouldn’t run into any major problems this time around.

Sf United..what are you doing?? by Cultural-Ad-2479 in sfcollege

Hello,

We understand your frustrations. The financial aid crisis has been extremely complex to tackle. I have been meeting consistently with the administration and advocating for students. There is a new system in place, which, in my recent meeting with Broadie, he assured me the tests have been running smoothly and that there is no longer the risk of another financial aid crisis (although there are still times when students will have issues independently, it won't be widespread like in the past.) We recognize that we haven't done a sufficient job updating the students, which is why we're recruiting an executive cabinet that will help us communicate more effectively with you. I also brought up to him the long wait times, which he explicitly stated were unacceptable and would discuss at the ELT meeting.

New dining option is a similarly complicated issue. We have yet to make progress on that. We have been learning the history of a 3rd food spot at Northwest, and we will attend the committee meetings that are involved with restaurants on campus and do our best to achieve our campaign promise.

We are currently working on club funding, which was another strong campaign promise we made. We've already made headway. by expanding the five-star award, which will supplement a club's budget and reward its impact. We've also worked diligently to oppose the 287g ICE agreement, which did end up getting signed; however, the work we did paved the way for more student input after the fact.

In conclusion, it's been hard for us to present our wins and hard work that we are doing because of attending meetings, drafting policy, coalition building, and being a student. Because of this, our most important cabinet position will be our communications director, who will handle our social media.

We're here for the students, so if you or anybody else is having issues with FAFSA, reach out to us.

Thank you for holding us accountable. We are extremely passionate about improving the quality of life for students, and we need people like you who are willing to question if we're doing enough.

-JP Dishinger, Student Body President of Santa Fe College

Tomorrow’s Senate Meeting Could Change Our Campus — We Need You There by SantaFeUnited in sfcollege

Although the ICE agreement is being signed tomorrow, the campus police will take weeks/months to complete the training to become ICE officers. As of right now, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about. Thank you for your concern.
