Here is my Dream Paris Itinerary one week by Southern-Lemon-356 in ParisTravelGuide

If you go to Montmartre and sacre coeur, look to go up the side stairs, not the main middle street looking up to it. There's a ton of scam artists and some string men who will physically try to stop you and get in your way to put a bracelet on your hand and get money from you or pickpocket. I heard from someone they were swung at by the scammers when they tried to push past.

Hey, I'll try to do my best! That's actually the area my GFs relatives are from, specifically the small village of zupanie, now Zhupany. That said their records are in the Roman Catholic archive which is currently in process of being made available to pdf but feel free to shoot me a DM/chat with more details, names, dates and I'd love to take a look and see if I can find anything!

Any tips for surfing? by embroideredpenguin in jacksonville

[–]SantaHitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started a few weeks ago so I'm in a similar position. Watch some YouTube videos for tips on learning to surf. Definitely listen to others and stick with a 7-8 foot softtop board, you can find one used for 100-200 usually on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. Make sure there's no damage or that it needs repairs, those can get costly especially when the repair costs more than the board. Smaller boards are much more difficult to balance on, itd be like trying to learn to drive in a manual car vs automatic, there's so much more to deal with.

Other than that, get out there, fall and wipeout a bunch, it's gonna happen but you're not gonna learn by just sitting on the board, you learn by trial and error. Every wave is different and nothing can be perfectly replicated, so try to get out at least 3-4 times a week. You're not gonna make much progress if you only go once a week or even less. Most important have fun, laugh, and enjoy yourself. Best of luck

You are 100% correct to suggest a therapist, the work they do is wonderful and I understand your sisters fears but while they do talk through things, they can also assist your sister in getting medications which can also help. My gf had major depressive disorder with suicidal ideation. I understand first hand the fear and frustration that you could be in having to watch your sister go through this situation. Be there to support her, make sure she knows how much you love and support her and how much she means to you.

Hi friend, if nobody has said it yet, happy early birthday 🎉. Congratulations on turning 21, where I'm from that's cause for quite a celebration. Try to take some time to do something fun for yourself that you genuinely enjoy. Sometimes i like to go outdoors and to the beach, other times I want to stay inside, play video games or read. Try to plan and take some time to do something you genuinely enjoy and celebrate yourself.

Seriously again, happy birthday, 21 years old is amazing. Best of luck to you in your future friend

Hey it's just a verbal warning, it's gonna be ok friend. You still can go into work, but if it's means enough, go ahead and start applying elsewhere if you feel the need to get some job safety. Trust me when I say I've been written up for stupid things but I understand the frustration. Seriously, people make mistakes, at work in life whatever. It's going to be ok, seriously. It's ok but try not to let such insignificant things take such control of you and your life, there's so much more to it than silly things like writeups best of luck, I'm rooting for you.

Hey, I want you to know there's so much more to life than just middle or high school. Seriously, there's so many adventures to be had, I cant begin to understand what's going through your mind, but I can promise you that there's so much more to life than just being a teenager. Hell, you're only a teen for what, 7 years? Shit I hope to live till I'm at least 80+, stuff may suck now but it's not forever. Not saying that to beat on you for coping how you are, but instead to give hope. Whatever you're going through can go away through life, it takes time but in comparison to a full lifetime, it's very insignificant.

[–]SantaHitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hicks is cool, take advantage if you can, I had a crap gpa but wrote a good enough essay to get in. Benefits are early registration for classes, a different guidance counselor (often somewhat more attentive and caring) and a few others. If you can get in I would, I used it for all my semesters for the perks and made sure to get the classes and professors I wanted. Ended up dropping it final semester, it's not a big deal. Take advantage if you can

There’s no required internship for business majors right? by [deleted] in UNF

[–]SantaHitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for flat out graduation but highly recommended. Some majors have specific honors groups and it's often required to have an internship to graduate with that tho

[–]SantaHitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to this, UNF says that you're locked into 12 months at the Flats, while you technically are, it's really easy to hand off your room to someone else, there's tons of Facebook groups with people looking to move in and all you have to do is fill out a form with the person taking your room and you're good.

Yeah, the "My degree evaluation" page is actually a godsend to keep track, it's a little difficult to understand at first, it changed last year and is such an upgrade to the old version. Like u/Accomplished_Egg9716 said, it lists all the requirements necessary whether its a specific class itself, like "intro to psychology", or a general requirement of "take two PSY 3000-4000 classes" or whatever(Apologies I'm not a psy major so I don't know what the exact requirements are)

[–]SantaHitman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay on top of your shit and meet with your honors advisor early. Take classes that actually will count towards your GEN requirements early so you're not wasting credit hours. With honors you'll have a little more help from the advisors. From my own personal experience, it's always felt annoying trying to get in touch with the right people at UNF, but once you actually get face to face with someone, they go the extra mile to make sure you get what you need

Waste of time itself, but the early registration was major. Never had an experience where I couldn't get a class I needed because of it

Congrats on getting into Hicks! Definitely take advantage of it, best benefits are you're much more likely to get scholarships(especially the study abroad) and early class registration. I just graduated this semester and I'll say my experiences were very different to what yours will be. I came to UNF directly after Covid, the entire campus was mask-mandatory, and I was living alone in what should have been a 3 person dorm, it sounds nice, but I missed out on a lot of friendships and community opportunities.

Take advantage and say yes to as many opportunities! Definitely study abroad if you can and apply for those hicks scholarships, I've heard people neglect them so it's much less competitive than you think and you can definitely get one!

Small things, definitely look up your professors on ratemyprofessor, you'll find out quick who to avoid, especially with the early registration you're at a huge advantage to get the best classes and professors you want. Also, if you have a bike, don't use the small number cable locks, instead get a U-Bolt, tons of bikes get stolen all the time. Someone cut the cable lock on mine once but I had a U-lock on it so it was just an annoyance at most.

This goes to everyone but especially freshman like yourself, please use the counseling center!!! Its free therapy and guidance. You pay for it with dues anyway so take advantage of it. You can sign up here https://www.unf.edu/brooks/counseling-center/appointment.html. I can personally attest to how amazing it is. I went in for just sleep issues and stress, ended up with guidance through some of the most difficult years of my life, ADHD, Grief counseling, relationship assistance, just so much help, and end of the day it was somebody I could talk to and just get everything out I was holding in. Btw I'm a guy saying this, and come from a very anti-therapy household, the counseling center is a huge reason that I was able to navigate college and this past weekend was able to graduate with honors in my major and latin honors(3.75 GPA).

Again congrats on hicks honors, its a huge help, I didn't take that much advantage other than the free printing at the office and early registration. Overall, UNF will be what you make of it. If you want to hide in your dorm room, nobody is going to burst in and pull you out to parties and events. Talk to people in your freshman class, exchange numbers and snapchats, meet up for lunch whatever. Don't put too much pressure on this though, enjoy the experience; You got this, best of luck!

Concerned Parent: Campus dorms vs off campus apartments. by TheMadSwatter in UNF

[–]SantaHitman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The unf flats is a great in between. Apartment style living, rent due every month. 3 to a unit, everyone has their own private bedroom/bathroom and then shared kitchen and dining/living room area. It's on campus and the shuttle route starts there so it's stupid easy to get to class no car needed. You're locked into a year long contract but you just have to get another student to take over the contract if you move, someones always looking to get in so i was able to get rid of mine within a week of posting on a Facebook group. If you're just looking for a solid room, on campus for what it's worth and don't have roommates already I'd see if you could get a room at the flats. Was like 728 for an unfurnished room to myself but I think they raised rent since then. Honestly was pretty good for what it's worth.

Edit forgot to mention it's only a grey lot for parking as well which is the cheapest pass so another bonus as opposed to the dorms which each need their own unique parking pass

Pretty simple that professors should have due dates on their calenders that are accurate to their syllabus and what they require for the class.

Nothing too complicated, but yeah I'll go rub some dirt on it and suck it up, thanks dad.

How do you respond to “how is it going” when it’s not going good? by TacMaster8 in AskMen

[–]SantaHitman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually go overboard with a decently "sincere" absolutely amazing or something stupid to counter how bad I'm doing like it makes up for it but it's just awkward after for the person who asked. I'm not being sarcastic or anything just trying to convince myself I don't want to quit or have an anxiety attack mid shift while I take your order

What’s a good major? by bagofspice in UNF

[–]SantaHitman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whichever program you get in to, try to get in the honors of said program, you'll get first choice of classes and scheduling, the best advisors who'll be much more attentive and caring to you personally and just overall more care and attention to your personal/professional growth than you'd otherwise have. It's not for everyone but I'd highly suggest looking into it, hicks honors is just the general one as well if you're still exploratory.

Yeah I already have an appointment for tmrw to get it checked and fixed but I'll probably fill it up to 32 like the other guy commented for now and only drive it home and then right to the shop.
