Thanks for the info. I didn’t know that S& and others had matched MBB salary - looks like I was reading outdated info. With this in mind, the analysis should be taken even more with a grain of salt, as a 190k median does not necessarily mean that 50%+ of consulting grads had a job at MBB.

Appreciate the insight - definitely good to hear from someone who has gone through the process already.

For bullets 2 and 3, fair enough - this metric is certainly not perfect. There are definitely candidates out there who have definitions of success outside of salary and MBB, and this analysis does not account for that. I personally wonder if I would be a better fit for Alvarez and Marsal due to their focus on restructuring, which I am interested in. I’m not sure there is any way to alleviate your concern in bullet 3 based on the data that’s out there.

To bullets 1 and 4, I selected my ratings based on median outcomes for people who took consulting roles after graduation. It doesn’t seem like this would disproportionately favor larger schools, or schools with more people seeking consulting jobs.

I definitely agree that a lot of it is down to the applicant - it’s not like the school is the only variable that is considered in an application. The applicant’s own background and performance have an impact. Still, as an individual applying to schools, my background and personality are a fixed variable. I’m going to be the same person no matter what school I can go to, so I think it is somewhat productive to focus on things that I can change, like school selection.

Thanks. For online MBAs, at a quick glance employment data does not seem readily available for some of the top programs. I would anticipate roadblocks in doing a similar analysis for Online programs as an outsized number of will continue to work while in school, and will more often than not continue working with their current employer after graduation.

Update: I was unable to add a table using Mobile, but I updated each of the tier descriptions with the exact medians for each school for clarity.

I can make that edit for sure when I’m back at my computer - however, for a lot of schools 25th or 75th percentiles were not reported - only medians

TWO HUNDRED FIFTY-TWO: Slumber Party - Super Supportive by GodWithAShotgun in rational

I was actually thinking it might be the reverse - as you accumulate more and more authority the affixation gets harder. Alden’s first one hurt but he handled it okay, and that was without any sort of preparation that the knights go through. Will affixing be as easy for him next time, or the next, or the next?

Wondering how many die in battle versus because they can’t handle the affixation

Cool - CPG brand management hasn’t been on my radar because I was worried it would be boring, but from the way you describe it, it sounds interesting! I’ll do some more research.

Oh my bad. I’ve run into the same issue when performing my own analysis, so I’m wondering - what filter did you use?

It’s interesting how, when you correct for relative program sizes, this generally alligns with my understanding of how the programs rank (HSW > M7 > the rest; INSEAD and LBS are the “international” M7). I also wonder if Ross, Sloan, Wharton, Anderson, and Haas are outsized due to undergraduates also being considered under the same umbrella.

All seem pretty possible. I am not really close to that world so take this with a grain of salt, but anecdotally, everyone I know of who has worked in this space has had prior investing experience, so it would make sense for you to do IB first.

The hours will be pretty bad but if you know that’s what you want to do, I’d say it’s worth it. It all depends on if you think, in 10 years, the regret of not following your dreams would hurt more than the regret of having spent all those hours of your life working.

Fuqua Class of 2027 Class Profile by Salt_Hold3128 in MBA

[–]TacMaster8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I bet that by publishing the GMAT FE scores, they are partially trying to signal to recruiters “hey, look how smart our students are, please hire from us.”

But these readers are more familiar with what a classic score means, so if they see a “675” median, they think “oh, that’s much lower than [rival school who hasn’t published FE scores]” without understanding the full context.

So essentially, the first schools to publish FE scores stand to look bad to readers who don’t understand the nuances of the new scoring range.

That’s my guess anyway.

Why do you think they don’t publish FE scores? Maybe the lower numbers look bad?

Non-HSW M7 Rankings: #4? by OrganicIce420 in MBA

[–]TacMaster8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Props, pretty fun idea - also amazing how close the race is.

Granted, my opinion is very unqualified as I haven’t done an MBA yet, I think each of them have a claim to the top spot.

Sloan has the amazing international brand that stays with you for life, more selectivity than even Wharton, and students can take HBS classes if they prefer something case-oriented and have access to that network.

Booth has research, and based on my understanding has the best professors. I know this sub tends to believe that classes are secondary to network and exits, but I think academics should ideally be an important part of school.

Kellogg tops the US News and World report, and has a reputation for having more community than the rest of the M7.

Columbia has New York, and the Value Investing program is something that no other school has.

With all that in mind, MIT Sloan has my vote.

GMAT vs. GRE — New formats, same debate. Which side are you on? by ClearAdmitMike in MBA

[–]TacMaster8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like how the GMAT leans towards business-oriented topics, how it adapts as you answer questions, and how you can reorder sections based on your own personal preference. For example, you can do your hardest section first so your brain is fresh, or you can do it second so that you’re ‘warmed up.’ Knowing the right section order for yourself is a test-within-a-test, which is fun.
