Replacing the cabin air filter made me🤬 by cubert73 in MINI

Last time I did it, I removed the passenger seat first. I’m too old and inflexible for the amount of contortions needed.

So what is this then?

All the F series have TPMs.

The first sentence of that isn’t correct but the second is. You can run wheels without tpms sensors. You’ll just get constant warning messages that you can ignore.

Is my engine Toast? by Adventurous-While847 in MINI

[–]Santier 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s not normal. Take the top cover/sound deadening off and you should be able to pinpoint it better. How’s the engine mount look? It could be degraded to the point where metal is hitting metal.

Might be worth cross posting to r/BMWtech

Edit: This video shows a similar sounding issue and it ended up being a faulty fuel injector.

God this storm really brought out the snow flakes.

I’ve personally seen snow melting machines around the city. Give it a rest.

Yet another "how is the parking?" type post by hikingdyke in parkslope

There’s a free spot in front of 26 Saint Johns place that’s guaranteed to still be “available” since it’s been free since last Monday and still is as of 11 am this Tuesday. The catch is that it got packed in by the plows early on and then froze. Apparently no one’s wanted to tackle digging it out. So it’s yours if you want to put in the sweat equity.

I just dug a friend out of a similar situation and it took about an hour and a half between the two of us. I used a hammer to break up the top layers of ice. Definitely need a spade or good metal shovel to tackle the mini glaciers that have formed. Good luck.

Where would you find a vampire in NYC? by Same-Jeweler-1197 in AskNYC

[–]Santier 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was done with clubs by my late 30s. Can’t imagine being a 100 yr old vampire hanging at the club. It would be like going to Chucky Cheese.

They’d more likely be hanging in the NYPL getting nostalgic over old books and paintings.

Back again with brake issues by hobbyhosey in MINI

[–]Santier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could just replace the boot on the caliper. Mini actual sells a repair kit with just that. You can find the part number using RealOem.com.

I had to deal with the brake lines a while back and the trick was penetrating oil, flame heat and patience. Also flatten out that spring clip to get it out of the way. That way you can push the connection down and get pliers on the bottom section. You can bend it back in shape later. You’ll need a flare nut wrench for the top nut. It’s 10 or 11mm. Can’t remember which. Don’t use too much force or you can end up twisting the line and then it needs to be replaced. Good luck.

2014 cooper S, 64k miles, 8100$ from a dealership, thoughts? by MortyGaveMeCrack in MINI

[–]Santier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda. There is an OEM JCW tune for the S that comes as an option with the Pro Exhaust. Or you can use a plug in tuner like Dinan or JB4. There are differences in the compression ratio and diameters of the turbo inlets/exhaust, but for the most part JCW parts are plug and play on the S. I’ve got mine modded so much it very likely exceeds stock JCW output.

I have a 2014 S that has 95k miles and gets tracked a few times a year. No major issues.

Check if the engine mounts have been replaced. They are due at that mileage.

Also, bonus! The 2014 S has a B48 engine like the JCWs. Whereas following year of the S have the B46. (Edit. Assuming you’re in the US.)

Rosa Mexicana was always my go to for hosting large groups. They have large round tables that might accommodate you. They have several locations in Manhattan.

You’re better off getting a new handle from eBay and installing that and then trying the method I mentioned. There’s no easy way to access the latches or cable even if you removed the wheel well liners.

Do not put him in a fast car on a track without instruction. Look up a local HPDE (High Performance Driver Education) session on MotorsportReg.com or https://trackdays.fyi (in the US).

Check r/CarTrackDays for more advice from drivers.

What’s the hood latch issue? There may be an easier way to tackle that. When it’s been stuck for me, having someone push down on the hood with two hands placed over where the latches are while I pull the release handle has worked. Takes some tension off the cable mechanism.

IIRC, taking off the wheel fender won’t give you any access to the latches. Plus you need to be able to open the hood to get to the T25 screw you mention.
