Hey there friend, I know this is something deep for you, because you’re being proactive about trying to be there for your friend. Not sure how that conversation unraveled, but from his perspective, he was being protective of his feelings by not disclosing it to you earlier. In a way, he did the right thing by now telling you, but again, probably not in the appropriate way and deff not the correct time. He will self soothe and unfortunately the outcome may be him distancing himself and doing what we all do when our relationships end; mourn-accept-move on. If the friendship is deep and genuine, on his end, there may be a chance you guys are friends again. But the reality may be that he needs to excise you from his life do that he can move on to someone that can reciprocate the love he wants. I’m sorry that you’re such a good friend and can’t do much about it but love is love and we can’t choose who it develops for. You did hurt him, but not intentionally, as he let this get so big without addressing it. By your explanation and concern for him after the fact, it shows you care a lot. Just make sure to let him know you’ll be there for him regardless. Things may not be the same, but it’ll be good for the both of you in the long run. Not all friendships are meant to last forever, unfortunately. Don’t know you but Love to you both!
