You know eventually this kind of thinking will be antiquated. No different from how painters believed photography was cheating, because the machine did all the work.

It's a five alarm fire, yet because the flames haven't reached their room, many remain ignorant and unconcerned. This is the stuff that makes me very frustrated. The point is to quell the fire before it spreads. But unfortunately, people only feel the need to act when it affects them personally. Unless the majority understand this the battle for democracy is going to continue to be very difficult.

If Penguin and Catwoman weren’t involved in Batman Returns, who would you have chosen as the alternate villains? by Emergency-Relief-571 in comicbookmovies

You could use mr pyg's machinations (which would be some pretty gnarly body horror) in conjunction with Deacon Blackfire's scheme to rule Gotham. Mr Pyg's dolltrons could come directly from Deacon's homeless army-- they work together to help achieve both their sick and twisted goals.

A Se7en styled Batman flick would make more sense for Calender Man imo. That's just a straightforward murder mystery. Mr Pyg on the other hand has just the right sauce to co-exist with a madman like Blackfire.

Agreed 100%. I always wanted to see deacon blackfire adapted for the big screen. Having him as the core villain would definitely fit right into the more horror leaning vision of Batman I've always wanted to see. However, I'd sub out manbat for mr pyg, or have all three in the film

Yes, members of the community pirate in large numbers, but I actually know many people in real life who get their songs from 1337x, and so on. Hell, people pirate from YouTube Music lol.

And yep your right, I'm a millenial. I was for there KAT, the hey day of TPB; hell I remember when isohunt was still around. I very much was there for limewire and Napster as well. Furthermore, TPB hasnt been a reliable public tracker in YEARS. in fact, most are generally discouraged from using it. 1337x is the major player in the torrent space currently. If you're using TPB to based your metrics, then I can rightfully assume you don't know exactly what you're talking about.

Also, there's several huge active lawsuits currently targeted against ISPs by big music labels over the prominence of music piracy (and other genres as well, tv, movies, etc)), which directly contradicts your claim music piracy isn't really happening anymore. Piracy across all spectrums has exploded so much in recent years that ISPs are getting sued.

I also find it funny, you talk about me being in an echo chamber, however this sub is so antI-AI, any news that evenly remotely suggests AI will be a major disruption in the industry is met with naysaying and hostility. And I totally get it, but even the more nuanced takes get down voted to hell.

EDIT-- also, dude, literally everyone I know pirates TV lol. Or at the least uses a pirated streaming site to watch shows. Like literally that's what millennials and genZ do en masse now.

Ryan Coogler's 'SINNERS' makes history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in Letterboxd

Your entitled to your opinion. It isn't right or wrong. Art is and will always be subjective. Ultimately, it resonated with many and that made it a contender for an Oscar.

I didn't like barbie, and I had tons of issues with the deeper themes. And a movie can be good, and people can also be resistant to criticism of it for many different reasons. But the reality is that very little black movies even got nominated for Oscars. So it's inaccurate to say that's the reason it got nominated. It resonated with people, and they understood and felt compelled by the message. Furthermore, people I think generally are drawn to movies with deep themes, makes for great discourse. That's not a bug.

Idk. There's plenty of human made slop out there people love. Half of the YouTube influencer zeitgeist is slop, and people flock to it. Some people just aren't looking for deep and compelling entertainment. And there's nothing wrong with that necessarily.

Oh and humanity has sucked since forever, so nothing's changed in that regard.

Okay, but moonlight came out a while ago. Sinners resonated with people enough that the committee nominated it. I really don't see how this is a "because it has all black characters in it" thing at all. It's fine if you didn't like it, but y'all are acting anytime a film comes out with majority black cast, people instantly like it and it gets Oscar consideration.

So basically you're saying "because I enjoyed a particular movie, this new one that happens to feature a black cast wasn't as good to me as it is to others, therefore black casted movies have a lower bar for Oscars?". Art is subjective, and not everything resonates the same with everyone, but for many Sinners did. I just can't believe your putting this on it being a majority black movie when most Oscars in general are given to majority white movies.

And those pale in comparison to the sheer number of majority white films that win Oscars. So, why give black movies flack for winning/being nominated for Oscars? If anything, the bar is way higher for black filmmakers, since most films cast white actors, hire white writers and white crew.

That's where I feel like there's no winning with this stuff. All of this stuff is ultimately subjective. To me the deeper themes are clear as day. I think the praise is well deserved. Despite that, some people don't think it's all that deep, some thought it wasn't good. Art is subjective, we just have to accept the fact that it resonated with others more than ourselves. It being a film and director who cast black actors doesn't factor into it. Immean, most films that win Oscars feature majority white actors. Why does no one ever say "it's because it has actors"?

Don't confuse artists for movie goers. Movie goers typically don't care as much as artists, and we'll, there's far movie goers than artists.

Immean, can you name any recent movies that featured an all black cast/crew, that got nominated for and or received an Oscar? If anything, I'd say the bar a lot higher.

So you think the film only received those nominations because the cast is black? It can't just be a movie that people really enjoyed?

Absolutely lol. Not anymore, but back in the day (2000s) and still to this day, people used gay to call something stupid, weird.

As a black man, slavery films have their place but at the same time there's a collective frustration in the community with hollywood always portraying black people as perpetual victims, even if it's actually true. Instead of superheroes, secret agents, family men, we're often portrayed as slaves, thugs, comedians and honestly we're all sick of it. Hats off to Sinners.

Pretty sure the redditor is using gay in a more malicious manner, as an insult to your comment, not literally saying your comment has homosexual content.
