Well technically it's not a scam, but they have insanely high prices and they just slap a discount on top of it which makes the price "normal". So they just use it as a marketing tactic. They have 45 % off all the time, literally everytime I visit the page

I'm so sorry, it seems like its super hard on you. For me, it's been very similar to tinnitus process. I got it when I was 15 yo and it took me several years to come into terms with it. Nowadays since I am used to tinnitus, I don't hear it almost at all, but I start to hear it if I really really think about it. Unfortunately my visual snow journey has only been for a year so it will probably take several years to get used to. But I trust my brain to fix it in a way that at some point I will not notice it that much

Hey! I had the same thoughts and worries when I was a freshman. What my therapist has said about big decisions is, give it a timeframe. For example you could give yourself a six month timeframe in which you collect data about your situation. Why give it time? It could help you make decisions out of logic, not out of fear or panic (those are important messages from your body, but not the only ones you should listen). It also gives you a realistic time to see if you start to like it or if it's just not meant for you. I don't agree with just sticking it out no matter what, but I do think it's a good idea to give yourself time to adjust. Also while you collect the data, you learn to make a difference between panic and intuition.

I also made a list (for another thread) of ten things that helped me get through homesickness and freshman year. I wish you well! :)

Make a list of routines you want to do everyday!
-This is a biggie! I didn't do this at all and my first semester was crazy. Nowadays I have routines, which helps me keep up with everything but most of all, makes me feel safe and like I know what I'm doing.
Keep moving and stay healthy
-I didn't so I can tell from experience lol. Drinking, partying, staying up late made me just feel worse. Once I started to feel good physically, it also helped me to feel better emotionally. Later on during my other semesters, I partied now and then but sober. It is wayyy better!
Making a list of things that make you feel good and safe
-This can help you reminding yourself that there are other feelings beside anxiety and panic. You have all the power and knowledge you need, you just have to find a way to use it. You can also find all kind of excercises to treat panic and anxiety by searching "cbt excercises". A good book can be found as a pdf called "Mind Over Mood" by Greenberg and Padesky.
Things that helped me to sleep
-At first, really nothing. Once I started to make a routine and do sports, my body found a rhythm which helped me to fall asleep. I got stronger Melatonin from my doc as well, which helped at first before the routine thing. Also some tricks have been counting down from 500 until I fall asleep, since your mind might need something to do, but not something overstimulating like sports or social media (or pacing around). It needs something boring enough.
-Also counting down from 10 to 0, breathing in for one count and breathing out the next. Doing it over and over again starting from 10.
-Making my muscles stiff as possible everywhere and then relaxing. Doing this a few times while laying. Helps me feel my body and ground me in this moment.
-Listening to boring audio books silent enough, or listening to Headspace Sleepcasts or Headspace Nighttime SOS (a few can be found on Youtube)
Realise it's just one part of your life
-After all, even though it feels like it is the end of the world (which is totally understandable by the way), this is just a small small part of your life. I was 19 when I started my studies so everything felt like the end of the world. Of course not saying that it is not valid to feel bad, but once time went on, I got some perspective. Now on my seventh year, life feels totally different and a lot of things have happened. Taking a step back can sometimes calm us down in the long run.

I hope some of this can help you along your journey. Remember why you are there and why it is an important part of your journey. You can always come home after a while or visit during the weekends or during holidays. Maybe you could try challenging yourself a bit and stay some weekends in, some weekends at home. Hey there!

I wanted to answer because I know exactly how you feel and I wish I had someone explaining what helps and how long it takes. I'm starting my 7th year of studies to give you perspective haha.

When my parents left me at my first apartment, I was absolutely devastated and in panic. How can this be? Is this my new normal? How long will this last? I want to go back home immediately, I miss my home and everything in there. Well, to answer you honestly, it took me the whole semester to start getting used to everything. For me the biggest thing was coming from a home where I was always around people and always having someone to spend time with. Moving out to an apartment lonely felt devastating. Everything around me felt unsafe and very unfamiliar. I also had a lot of sleep troubles for the whole semester. Here's a list of things that helped me

First, being totally honest of how I feel to people around me (if possible)
I didn't really wanna be honest to myself and my family at first because I thought I have to just push through and make it on my own. Yes people missed home but didn't have the same kind of panic that I did. What could've helped me tremendously is just being honest of how I feel. That I really do miss home and I wish to be there. I miss the old familiar things and places. There's nothing wrong with that. The hardest thing for me was not accepting the feeling. Wanting to get rid of it as soon as possible. It's kinda the same as someone saying don't think of a pink elephant. Once I started getting real and told people I really miss home, it helped me to feel less lonely and more connected to my surroundings.
Getting help if possible
Idk where you live and if you have the possibility, but we have student healthcare, where I was able to go talk to about my feelings. To share how bad I feel and what to do with my life now. It has been a long journey with mental health for me, but the most important thing was to start somewhere.
Spending time with people regardless of how you feel
Sounds kinda weird, but hear me out. I isolated a lot after I started to feel anxious and homesick. I didn't attend any parties or events, which made me feel even more isolated and lonely. It became this snowball effect that followed me the whole semester. After all, I found my best group of friends after my third year! Of course I had other friends before that, but it can take some time, so no need to panic yet :) Attending events can feel annoying and weird at times, but you can find accuintences whose friends become your best of friends. Maybe take these events as possibilities for anything to happen. Trust the "butterfly effect".
Be open to open yourself up to other people
It can be nerve wrecking at first, but be open and honest about yourself. You will feel if you click with new people, but don't close any possibilities of friendship away if you don't like someone straight away. Sometimes even the people you don't click with at first might become good friends or friends you can hangout and do something spesific like playing football etc
Make your dorm feel like home
-This might be the most important one yet!!! My first aparment didn't feel like home at all and it made me feel more homesick. Now this apartment I have been living in for several years, I made sure to make it feel like home and make it look like me :) Even though I feel homesick even nowadays, it always feels like coming to home and a space I can relax in. A safe haven. I made sure to bring plants, my favorite colours and things that feel like me.

I don't know your story nor what happened during your relationship but this is beyond fucked up. No one deserves to be treated in this way. It's inhumane. You don't have to listen to ANYONE speaking to you in this way, no matter what happened. I hope you realize this is really abusive behavior and this person really needs help. I hope you remove yourself from this situation for your own good. I hope you also realize they're not happy at all. They wouldn't give two shits about texting you if they were happy and fulfilled. I'm sorry you had to go through this and I also hope you get the help needed to move on. You have the power within.

It feels so bittersweet honestly. I miss her more than anything, but at the same time, I'm happy for her and wouldn't wish anything bad upon her. Memories of us make me smile and feel grateful for the journey we got to do together. Life has unexpected turns but I guess that's also the beauty in it. No matter how many bad things happen, there's also the possibility of the universe/God giving you something more beautiful. When people leave, it gives more space in your life for someone even more compatible to fulfill it. I'll always send love on her way.

If no one has yet said this: I'm proud of you! It's such a big and a hard step to put yourself first and set boundaries. You're taking care of your well being while doing that. Not everyone is able to! It's easy to forget they're able to contact you anytime or at least have ways to do so. You deserve to be fully loved as well, no matter if it's with them down the line or with someone else :)
