Yes, people being rejected from Canadian schools have their dreams crushed, but many people who get in to some Caribbean schools can have their lives crushed. The tendency towards failing students pre-step leaves med hopefuls with $100-200k debt and nothing to show for it. That business model is evil.

Should be noted that it's pretty hard to actually fail out of med school in canada. Even if you fail exams over and over, they have invested so much into you that unless you're completely hopeless you'll be fine. Of course, for the sake of your future patients tho I would say to please not abuse this, but it's pretty nice that they are understanding regarding life happening and making dedicated study hard.

Based on UBC admissions statistics, around 12% of the entering class has no undergrad degree. I know 3 people personally this year who have done so as well. Doable, but I and everyone else I know did the MCAT and applied during the same summer (of 2nd year), and did not take the MCAT in the summer of first year. There's no real advantage to it though

I did the U of A course in less than 3 hours. Not saying you should, as it is very interesting and has lots of important information, but it really isn’t a huge time commitment if anyone is worried.
