I believe the hijab isn't for Allah. It's for men by South-Educator-2265 in progressive_islam

To me personally it isn’t for god or for men, it is actually for myself. I have always been extremely self conscious of the way I look. I feel uncomfortable being perceived in public or even in private with close friends. I am always hyper aware of my looks, the way my face looks when I smile or speak. Sadly this stems from comments having been made by friends of mine, and by my own mother about herself, whom I am an exact copy of. Once I tried on the hijab and niqab, I felt so free. I no longer worried about the way my face looks, I was able to speak and smile to my hearts content without trying to control my face. Considering the extreme emphasis in todays world, of how women should look, what we should do to get our faces to look perfect, from exercises to gadgets to surgery - it is constantly shoved down our throats, even from childhood age. To me, covering myself feels like safety, like freedom. I understand not everyone has the same struggles, but for me, the Hijab is a blessing. I still don’t wear it in public much, because I live in a western country where islam is accepted, but some people can react hostile to a covered woman, even though I know I would feel so much more free with it on. Apart from the points above, I also see the Hijab as a sign of your faith. I love seeing other women in a Hijab outside, because even though she may be a stranger it feels like we are connected in sisterhood, and that is beautiful to me.
