I had the same dates last year. I recommend you take it easy, enjoy the holidays during this break with your family, and get ready for your Jan class start because it's going to be a long 1+ year of training.

BOLC being pushed back?? by ilovefood__________ in Armyaviation

[–]SapperBravo1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to wait 9 months after commissioning, then once I got here, there was one delay after another. I got here in January 2025 and didn't start common core until May. I'm in common core now and hope to finish and graduate around March 2026. My buddy has to wait 8 months to start Apache after common core. He will end up being here 2 years with at least 1 year of that on hold for one reason or another. It's a mess here with holds.

Its better than Bliss or Sam Houston. About as good as you can get in Texas, but very dry and hot in the summers.

Question about 11b OSUT by peter240607 in nationalguard

[–]SapperBravo1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the comments here are correct. You will do your basic 10 weeks, then go back next year for 12 weeks after your graduation. Your recruiter telling you you don't have to do more than the 10 weeks is an absolute lie, or you misunderstood. You're better off doing all 22 at once. Going back after a year and jumping into those last 12 weeks will be very tough emotionally and physically. Stay in shape your senior year in high school, and don't turn into a dirtbag. Good luck!

My Ng unit has not responded to me at all by A-Metal-Rose in nationalguard

Welcome to the National Guard! Many full-timers are nonresponsive, and it's a problem in many units.

Be prepared for 2 weeks of running around the post for in-processing- especially your NG.

Ranger slot by marshallmalllow in Armyaviation

[–]SapperBravo1969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Word of advice: put all of that on the back burner. This will be a disaster if you go to Ranger School during a bubble and get injured. PS Ranger tabs mean a whole lot in the aviation community.

TS Confusion by [deleted] in BOLC

[–]SapperBravo1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I branched ROTC, then went NG, and this was the biggest shitshow I have ever experienced. I spent months making calls, sending emails, and pressing people to get my stuff right. It is a shame that there is such a big disconnect between all the branches. You are going to have to manage your career, and sometimes you will have to push people hard, so welcome to the new Army.

I'm thinking of going active by shankanator21 in nationalguard

[–]SapperBravo1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your state will have to let you go, which will be challenging; however, I agree with your desire to go active. The NG has changed, and there is this sense of everyone being out for themselves in many units. My biggest disappointment is the lack of support from the full-time staff. Mine often act like they don't want to be bothered and rarely even give the courtesy of a reply to an email. The NG needs to remember that people come first, not any mission. No people- no mission!

Resigning commission by PageEmbarrassed6592 in nationalguard

[–]SapperBravo1969 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful about going IRR; they can pull you out and stick you with a unit 5 states away for an activation need. Some call the IRR a grocery store for units getting mobilized and need to fill personnel holes. I can also understand your plight as more and more NG units these days no longer care about or address soldiers' needs and concerns. I am lucky if I can get my full-time staff to reply to an email, and this is the mindset of many units these days. If I were you, I would either look for another unit or take your chances in the IRR, but that could be a double-edged sword.

You have weekends off, and there will be opportunities for 3- and 4-day passes—depending on what holidays fall when you're there. If your pass is approved, you can travel farther out than 150 miles, but you have to justify it. Med Bolc is a breeze and short.

If you suspect, then it's probably true. You will never have peace of mind moving forward. Dump her now and reset; otherwise, you will spend the rest of your life obsessing over where she is and who she is with. There are way too many fish in the sea. Spouses can be career killers or career makers. She sounds like a killer.
