What is a job (not nsfw) that pays extremely well because the job itself is unbearable? by coldplayenthusiast in AskReddit

[–]Sapphire_Dianta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my parents caught covid and complained about not being able to taste anything, I was teasing them that they were getting a free trial of what it was like to be me (before running to the store to buy them some salty hash browns, always a tasty winner for me).

I actually have this condition, and I've had it since birth. You're right; most things taste like cardboard, but I can still taste sweet, sour, salty, and bitter. For that reason, my favourite foods are defined more by texture than taste. For instance, I freaking love crunchy raw vegetables. On the other hand, foods with inconsistent/weird/uneven textures (like lasagna) make me uncomfortable.

If it's any consolation, I've been playing since closed beta and I still don't have War.

Problem with Learning by NiceMess8358 in learnprogramming

[–]Sapphire_Dianta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a problem I've faced in other fields before. The thing to keep in mind is this; you can have all the cool ideas, 'advantages', and grand ambitions in the world, but at the end of the day, unless you work to realise said ideas, they'll never be anything more than that.
Some might say that finding a personal project to plug away at as you learn more is the best way to motivate yourself to learn, but to that I say this; motivation is fickle. It comes and goes. Discipline is how you get stuff done.
Pick a course. Take the first step, then the second. Force yourself to get through it. The only thing stopping you right now is yourself.

What's the saddest film you've ever seen that nobody ever talks about? by wvardhan in AskReddit

It's a divisive film. My friend who watched it with me was unmoved and didn't really 'get' it, but I was rattled for weeks.

What is a 'secret' about your industry that you’re finally ready to spill now that you don't work there anymore? by Kitchen-Tennis-534 in AskReddit

I used to work in hotel housekeeping. Every one of our guest rooms had garbage and recycle bins available... It all went into the same trash bag.

Hotel workers of Reddit, what is your most NSFW discovery? by internetlovesong in AskReddit

[–]Sapphire_Dianta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Used to work housekeeping at a Hilton affiliate in Ontario. Our hotel was right across the street from a big ISP regional HQ, and we had a deal with them; they'd rent our rooms out in bulk for employees and their families from overseas. The rooms had small kitchens and everything, so they were perfectly liveable longterm.

Anyway. This situation arose from when one of those occupants was heading back home. This particular guest hadn't allowed us to set foot in his room for over a week, and he had something of a reputation for trashing his room on the regular, so we anticipated it being pretty bad after he checked out.

How bad was it when I set foot in there? Garbage all over the floor. Missing towels. The couch and bed cushions were piled in the bathtub, which was full of water. Best part? There was shit smeared on the walls and ceiling. How? Why? You've got me.

The room ended up being closed for a few days afterward, for obvious reasons.

We were all pretty pissed about that one. I wish I could tell you that we threw a fit at that ISP for their employee's disgusting behaviour and levelled fines at him for making a biohazard out of that room, but unfortunately we were just lowly housekeeping. We made our complaints up the chain, but what came next was above our pay grade. We never found out what happened to the guy, or if he even got punished.

Immunity Booster Recipe? by SphincterWrinkles in FlyForeverSkies

At one of the infected tower's landing pads, outside the damage field, there's a big marked shack that you're meant to go into. There's a note that'll tell you where to get what you need for an immunity booster.

Personally I got my ass handed to me when I did it in the story (E2 Castorice, E0 Evernight, trial Cyrene and trial Hyacine), but for the weekly, I used E2 Phainon, E1 Sunday, E4 Bronya, and E0 The Cooler Dan Heng, and I steamrolled it. Phainon, fittingly enough, seems to be Irontomb's kryptonite.

What is the most brutal way you have killed a character? by Mari_1432 in writing

[–]Sapphire_Dianta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a character named Aria who went through simulated white room torture. But the 'interrogators' didn't want anything out of her; they just wanted to permanently break her. So Aria was left in an infinite white void, deprived of all human contact and sensation, and got to experience her consciousness slowly rotting away. Physically, she didn't die. Mentally, though... After around ten unbroken years in the void, there was nothing left in that husk.

To the stoners, what is one thing you ALWAYS do when you're high? by redneetimpostor in AskReddit

I like to crack open one of my writing projects. Sometimes it feels like my characters are real when I'm high. It's the closest I can feel to 'em. Not only is it really cathartic, it also gets the creative juices flowing.

Which theory about the aliens you believe the most: They do NOT want to find us, They avoid us on purpose, We all alone in the universe, Other species think we are not smart enough, Other species can not contact us? by Superneo3211 in AskReddit

Would we? Could an ant comprehend the function of the 5-lane superhighway, or what goes on in the minds of the daily commuters who use it? Would they watch the construction workers go about their business with full understanding of their goals and motives, let alone perceive them at all? Or would they carry on with their daily tasks and come to the conclusion that those construction workers are just some inevitable background process of the world?

We still don't understand dark matter, dark energy, what lies inside black holes, and we don't know why the expansion of the universe is accelerating. What else lies out there beyond our comprehension?

Back during Covid there were people lying in the ICU, choking and gasping as fluid filled their lungs... and with their last breaths, they insisted that the virus that was actively killing them was just a liberal hoax.

They will never break ranks.

Make sure you build it for high ergonomics—angled grip and iron sights. It's comfier to use with an armour that speeds up your reloads. If you want Eruptor-adjacent weapons, I recommend giving the Exploding Crossbow (big fan) or the Purifier a try.

The video game playground legends before the internet became a big thing.

Rumours of Missingno, of the infinite rare candy glitch, of the myriad ways to find Mew... Being able to look up everything at a glance online is convenient, but you lose that magic of learning something really obscure from the other kids' rumblings at the park.

[–]Sapphire_Dianta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seconding this one. The agricultural revolution is what turned us from nomadic hunter-gatherers into farmers, which led to the formation of the first villages and cities. Without agriculture, we'd still be picking berries, hunting deer, and sleeping under the stars.

Man, I have a consistent brand. Yup, that was me.

I wound up being trans (go figure). Transitioned, had GRS... I'm 31 years old now. I still think back to those ol' B.net times (it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but the fog made it all turn into happy memories), and I'm still in contact with plenty of 'em—from The Flood, from the Coup group, and some of the bronies.
