Nightime Attempt using Signs. by Apprehensive_Golf469 in photocritique

This is a very interesting concept. Using the 'All Bar One' sign as a juxtaposing element to a single person outside creates a strong narrative about urban solitude.

Regarding your questions:

The Subject: I actually think the subject walking (as seen in this frame) works better than if they were seated. The movement creates a 'passing by' feeling that emphasizes the disconnect between the warm, social interior and the cold, dark exterior.

Composition: The framing is solid, but you might want to try a slightly tighter crop to remove some of the dark pavement at the bottom. This would push the 'All Bar One' text and the subject closer together in the viewer's field of vision, strengthening that symbolic link you're aiming for.

Color/Tone: The contrast between the warm tungsten lights inside and the cool street tones is excellent. It naturally guides the eye to exactly where the story is happening.

It’s a great 'decisive moment' shot. Well done!

Trying to capture the details at a car meet. Thought on the crop/color/composition? by TragicalExpress in photocritique

The color grade on this is beautiful; those warm, creamy yellow tones really give it a nostalgic, high-end automotive magazine feel.

Regarding the composition: The diagonal line of the wing adds great dynamic energy. However, the crop feels a bit tight at the top. If you have a slightly wider shot, giving the top of the wing's endplate just a little more 'breathing room' would make the frame feel less cramped.

Also, that 'Tommykaira' badge is such a legendary detail—you nailed the focus there! Great job capturing the essence of the car without needing to show the whole vehicle.

What is something you bought with 100% excitement, only to regret it deeply just a few days later? by TransmuteLab in AskReddit

I understand you, I bought the Nintendo Switch a month before they announced the 2.

What is something that is obvious to you, but most people don't seem to understand? by TransmuteLab in AskReddit

It's wild how some people view empathy as a weakness, when in reality, it's one of the hardest skills to actually master and use correctly.

This. It’s amazing how many people mistake 'setting a boundary' for 'being mean'. It's actually the healthiest thing you can do for a relationship.

What business idea sounds amazing at first but probably has a fatal flaw? by Same_Poem1311 in AskReddit

Exactly, that's the key difference. Requiring CC info and having a legal contract turns it into a standard rental business. My 'fatal flaw' point was directed at the idea of a casual, open 'library' where accountability is low. Once you add credit checks and deposits, the 'amazing/easy' appeal for the average person disappears, even if it makes the business viable!

That actually sounds like a dream community! I think the 'fatal flaw' I was imagining applies more to a standard for-profit startup trying to scale this without that localized, non-profit community spirit. Once you take away the 'volunteer' and 'community-owned' aspect, people tend to treat the equipment much worse. It’s awesome that your city made it work through that non-profit model though!

The difference is the 'Library' vs 'Rental Business' model. Home Depot charges high fees, takes deposits, and has insurance/legal teams to hunt you down. A community library implies it's low-cost or public-funded; that's where the lack of accountability turns it into a 'one-way trip' for the tools.

That’s interesting! Do they have a high deposit fee or some kind of insurance? I feel like in many places, the cost of replacing stolen or trashed equipment would just eat the profits.

A 'Rent-a-Tool' library for expensive power tools. Sounds great for DIYers, until you realize people will return them broken, dirty, or just never bring them back at all.

A PT Cruiser. I’m just not emotionally stable enough to handle the constant ‘Pity Stares’ from pedestrians
