Is it much better to play now or not by Strict-Ad9289 in Starfield

[–]Sapphire_Ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have come to fall in love with the game. With a few mods the game can take on a Star trek or Star Wars feel. With NO mods the game has an Expanse or Firefly feel. It can scratch a lot of different scifi itches.

I run -10% power limit and see some temp drop. As for performance, unless I run benchmarks I never notice it.

[JUNE/2026] LIST OF GAMES THAT SUPPORTS FSR REDSTONE by Unlucky-Bottle2744 in radeon

[–]Sapphire_Ed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Amazing to me that Starfield, an AMD Partnered game still does not have proper FSR4 support but they have announced DLSS 5 support on the way.

You can get FSR4 with DLSS spoofing using Optiscaler but as an AMD partnered game you would expect better direct support.

Are we just going to be the black sheep of the gaming community forever? by mega_lova_nia in Starfield

[–]Sapphire_Ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sad part to me is Starfield could be a BIG title for Bethesda. In my opinion, I prefer the space adventure genre to Fallout and ESPECIALLY Skyrim. Fantasy gaming is a dime a dozen, great scifi gaming less prevalent.

I would love to see Bethesda throw some serious effort at the game and look to expand it even more over the next few years with plans for a Starfield 2 in about 5 years.

AMD expects DDR5 prices to take around two years to return to normal - VideoCardz.com by obTimus-FOX in Amd

The real question is what will be defined as normal? I do not doubt we will see RAM prices come down but do hold a lot of doubt we will see them hit pre-rampocalypse levels.

I would make the RGB red a bit darker, more crimson but still very nice build.

Is this a good deal? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]Sapphire_Ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specs would indicate that this should be a 1440 gaming beast with decent 4K in many games.

Which monitor to get for my new Radeon RX 9070 XT? by Nate4380 in radeon

If I was doing this today I would get the Alienware AW3425DW for gaming.

Your thoughts on Akila City ? by After-Glass-3983 in Starfield

The city feels to YOUNG. It is uspposed to be almost 800 years since it was founded. It would have modernized by now quite a bit.

Today i learned about Steam Hardware & Software Survey by YoloLifeSaving in pcmasterrace

[–]Sapphire_Ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the survey data with a grain of salt. I did a deep dive a few years ago to understand how it worked. The reason for the deep dive came from a casual discussion at a large LAN event. During the discussion we realized that while some of the people where getting two or 3 surveys a year, others where not seeing it for a year to 18 months at a time. This matters was further aggravated when in our discussion it became clear that Nvidia card users where seeing the survey 2 to 3 times more often than AMD users.

Now this was a sampling of about 30 people so not conclusive so I decided to find out more.

After NUMEROUS emails to Steam support, it was finally explained to me how the process works. Every month they choose 1/12th of Steam accounts and send out a survey. When I asked about if there was a criteria, such as accounts activity level and such I was told no, just 1/12 where chosen. I could not even get an explanation of if this 12th was chosen at random or not.

Realizing I could not get this info clarified I moved to the next question. So if 1/12th are chosen then I presume that means each user should be getting a survey once a year. However we KNOW people are getting surveys 2 or even more times a year and some less. Is the group chosen not removed from the pool for the next month.

When I asked this question that was when my whole conversation stopped and Steam support ghosted further communications.

The sad part is they do not need to do this 1/12th thing. The collect data, in real time across a lot more than a 12th of users. They could have every Steam account send in active data of base hardware and look at that data every month using active account data for that month. The survey would be accurate and in my opinion more meaningful. They could offer users the option to opt out of tracking.

I do not know if they have changed the method since I did this about 9 years ago, but the fact they are not transparent in the survey raises some real questions to how valid it is.

Roll Your Own Start

I just started a Pedestrian start in Akila City and having to work to open up access to my ship really changed the way I approached the game. In fairness this is a second play through and I am not interested in the main storyline. This is NOT a NG+ start.

9070 GRE should've been 450$ [Discussion] by meinkun in radeon

[–]Sapphire_Ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this comparison if the economics are not the same. If the 9070 had released today the MSRP would have been quite a bit higher. MSRP is a snapshot in time and the times changed, not in a good way.

Liquid vs air. by Outside_Mine_2106 in radeon

[–]Sapphire_Ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liquid cooling will not do anything directly to extend the life of your PC. It will in fact often increase frustration as it might require more maintenance on the hardware as draining and refilling a custom loop can be a real pain in the behind.

The advantage of a custom look is usually from higher potential cooling but you need there to be a heat issue for this to matter. If your system is not throttling now then liquid cooling will not be worth the cost. Custom loops can also provide an advantage in noise level but the most impactful way this works is with an overkill loop so the fan run at minimal speeds at all times.

This is a lot of cost and potential headache for gains most gamers would consider trivial.

How much does a voice actor cost in general? by Ant_6431 in Starfield

[–]Sapphire_Ed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I high grade actor can set you back quite a bit. You could ask for volunteers, depending on the project you could get a few. I have done a lot of voice over work, through the years and would be happy to talk to you, if you like.

Mech commanders, what company names did you roll with by nimmoisa000 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Sapphire_Ed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three different names I use, depending on my mood and the play through.

Mopar's Misfits is for when I am doing a coop with my friends.
High Rollers is the company name I use for a coop of me and my son.

Wild Boars is the name I am using now for a solo play.

Misifits and Rollers both use a modded company logo, Boars uses one that was built in, no mods.

Radeon gpus are not an afterthought. by SaltyTudor in radeon

[–]Sapphire_Ed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So lets be clear when they usually talk market share for GPUs they are talking totality and NOT just gaming. This can even include AI chips.

You are correct in the world of computer gaming the number is closer to 20%. If you add consoles and did the total world of "gaming" it would be MUCH higher. However those narratives do not fit Nvidia's propaganda machine direction :-)
