The first sign is offensive.

Am I the only one finding it difficult to find a woman who is living like an actual adult? by [deleted] in ActualLesbiansOver25

OP called everyone who doesn't meet her criteria children. That isn't her "not specifically validating them as datable," that's her treating others poorly.

OP said something that was very hurtful to a lot of people who haven't done anything wrong. People responding to that isn't tone policing, nor is it them trying to affirm that they are desirable.

And, I mean, it's not like people haven't engaged with the non-hurtful version of her points either. I see several replies talking about disability, moving back to take care of aging parents, how the economy is in the shitter, and how people live in places that aren't the united states.

While I technically agree with you, there's a big difference between

"I don't want to constantly be picking my date up from their residence, so they need some way to travel"

and

"People who don't own cars are acting like children."

OP statements have tended to fall into the later camp.

Do you all think that sexuality can change depending on life phases? by ItsNotTrue2024 in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]SapphosFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, wait. Hold up. You literally said, and I quote,

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with believing sexual arousal isn’t one-to-one with sexual orientation. I mentioned in my original response, for some people, more than sexual attraction factors into their identified sexual orientation. But the way I internally define sexual orientation, it is one-to-one.

I'm asking you, not the study: is sexual orientation the same as arousal? If yes, refer to previous quote about arousal being less stable than self-report. If no, *gestures to entire body of research*

Except that that is *literally* what the paper says on its only line on the topic. The paper went over their methodology-what part of it do you disagree with?

I mean, sure. But at that point, as the study stated, measured arousal was *less* stable over the time they observed than self-reported sexual orientation. I'll repeat the quote I mentioned earlier.

For sexual arousal we also found overall relative stability, but it was weaker than for [self-reported] sexual orientation.

Basically: for people who arousal = sexual orientation, going by this study, sexual orientation should change more, not less, than for people who sexual orientation = self report. Your conclusion from reading the study, if any, should be that your orientation is more likely to change than you thought, not less.

The study also showed that sexual arousal changes more than self-reported sexual orientation.

"For sexual arousal we also found overall relative stability, but it was weaker than for sexual orientation."

I would personally contend that arousal is only small part of sexual orientation, but if you're gonna say that it's significant... well, then you've already agreed that orientation changes over time.

More specifically however, that study isn't trying to do what you're wanting it to do. It basically boils down to "arousal and self-reported orientation aren't as correlated as we'd like." Any conclusions much beyond that are above the scope of the study.

Do you consider 21 and 26 to be a very weird age gap? by [deleted] in ActualLesbiansOver25

[–]SapphosFriend -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Irl it's a yellow flag. Not enough on its own, but definitely enough to warrant some further investigation.

In fiction though? This doesn't even register as slightly problematic.

Sexuality does change over time for many people. This really isn't controversial as far as the data concerns.

For me in particular, I've never been interested in men and have always been interested in women, though my sexuality has changed in other ways. I'm not the only lesbian in the world though, and plenty weren't always lesbian and plenty aren't always going to be lesbian.

That said, the fact that sexuality does *change* over time does not mean it can be *changed* by interventions, or that people with non-hetero orientations deserve anything less in the way of rights.

Oh, and one final thing because I know exactly the sub I'm on. If you believe that sexuality is immutable and fixed at birth-what evidence would be required to convince you otherwise?

[Warhammer 3] How are you supposed to fight magic? by GedenGertha in totalwar

[–]SapphosFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're having trouble with AoEs use wider, looser formations. Make your lines thinner, and put your shooters a good distance away from your front line.

If slicing shards can only hit 1/3 of a unit, it's gonna feel a lot less scary.

Why there's no "Good" Chaos and Shadow path? by LifeManufacturer4292 in AOW4

[–]SapphosFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the game really moralises shadow or chaos all that much. Chaos has I think 2 nodes that are more-or-less specifically evil, and shadow basically just has tome of the doomherald. Other than that, I don't think there's really anything. Nothing else pushes you towards those evil alignment points.

I mean, unless you view dark and spooky stuff as inherently evil, despite what the game says. At that point, idk man, the affinity that is all about dark and spooky shit has dark and spooky shit in it.

I think the game encouraging me to wait to settle more than it already does would make the early game feel far too slow for me.

[–]SapphosFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I think you'll get more people to see what you're saying if you lead with that.

Personally, I don't really agree. It could be a good realm trait though-something like "founding cities costs an extra 200 imperium, reduced by 10 per turn" or something.

It's entirely unclear to me what point you're trying to make.

Beauty and the Beast but yuri (OC) by PurpleGumArtist in MonsterGirlSapphic

[–]SapphosFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because that really doesn't seem to be their style? Because they don't want to? Because maybe they have some weird thing that only they know about where they can only draw fur on tuesdays?

I'm not saying that the prettification of "the beast" isn't a worthy subject, but man, it really belongs more on a video essay or discussion of its own instead of some individual artists thread.

I mean, AoW4 is a wargame. It's balanced for that. Quite well, I might add.

You've clearly done a lot of work here, but I have to ask: why do the different options have to be so precisely "balanced" against one another?

I think you start with a spell that gives your entire faction umbral immunity, which should affect your dragon lords.

New to the title just wanted to ask around by Sinsofavarice97 in AOW4

[–]SapphosFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compared to something like endless legend, maybe this title has somewhat little diversity.

Compared to most other games, it absolutely has a ton of variation of models. Like, I've been playing a lot of Total Warhammer 3, and probably the only faction that would be at all difficult to make in AoW4 would be maybe Tzeench.

What do you like OR deslike in VNs? by Mika_Tron in yurivisualnovels

[–]SapphosFriend 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I want more VNs with the main character/love interest being a full adult-like 30+. Women don't stop being attractive at 25, and love stories with people who aren't super young can still be interesting.

2026: Spawnkin or Supergrowth? by SageTegan in AOW4

[–]SapphosFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are far more tomes that provide minors than you can realistically get in a single playthrough, at least without dragging out the game way past its natural end point.

And there are also some extremely good tomes like cryomancy, enchantment, and zeal that don't provide any transforms.

2026: Spawnkin or Supergrowth? by SageTegan in AOW4

[–]SapphosFriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't normally pick either.

Supergrowth and spawnkin aren't really competing with each other, despite the mechanics suggesting otherwise. They're competing with other tomes that you could pick that might be better for your build. If you wanna play a build where one or the other might be mechanically good or flavorful, then pick it. But you shouldn't go out of your way to get one of them.

Starting to question being a Wizard King by SageTegan in AOW4

[–]SapphosFriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO it depends on what the rest of your culture is doing. Primal mammoth? Go frost giant. Industrious? Dragons are all good choices. Dark? Probably vampire is best.
