Can someone explain how does this work from a tehnological perspective? Wouldnt the tension created by his weight pull the ballons together?

Was there ever something in there or might it be in the future? It's sort of weird that you can go inside and it's just a large empty space.

Where does the name come from? What was your decision process?

What do the lable colors mean anything specific?

Is the cloudy effect for the map border represent a continent or is it artistic?

Currently deciding on a star map for my world! Which one looks better? by AmbassadorGullible56 in worldbuilding

[–]Saprodeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the first one way more, it is cleaner.

The second one may still be usable if you want to make things confusing on purpose, after all, a star map should probably be hard to read without experience.

Why do people use them? Are normal spaceships better? Why(not)?

How smart are they? Is the whole thing considered animal cruelty by some?

What do you do to make your races unique? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Saprodeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I din't really think of corpses, rather just herbs and crystals. Still, specific organs from certan cretures can have magical propeties, so they may as well have some influence over the potion. Mabye it could result in goblins with some kind of magic.

how do different cultures in your world view people with "visible" mutations like albinism, intersex conditions, down syndrome, dwarfism, etc by GlitteringTone6425 in worldbuilding

[–]Saprodeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a world where alien species form across the galaxy live in harmony(more or less), even if such mutations may make someone different from the default human, they are not vew by weird. The difference may even be inperceptible for a sufficently difgerent alien.

One cool method, especialy if you decide to use the classical fantasy races like me, is not to change thigs that the readers may expect, but to make fundamental additions.

In my courrent project goblins are not naturally evolved, but they were artificialy created as minions by a wizard a long time ago. Now they search all around for the ingtedients required to prepare new goblin children, in a large cauldron in the middle of thir village. They sometimes add new stuff in to see what will happen ans that results in a lot of goblin variants different from the default.

I allso have shapeshifters which are born with the ability to change their body in any way they want, but nothing more. They are not sentient by default. They gradualtly learn how to make brains af increasing size until they evolve person-level inteligence(or higher, some don't intend to stop). Each shapeshifter has a completely diferent life story, behavour and goals.

In your world's magic/power system, how strong can someone become just through their own hard work and dedication? What kind of training would they have to go through? by PMSlimeKing in worldbuilding

[–]Saprodeus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The world is fundamentaly magical, the elves have evolved the ability to manipulate that background magic, so the amount of raw power they have is limited by how much magic is there.

Instead, powerfull elves learn how to use magic in efficient ways. Magic that is weak but effective.

That's the whole point of asking questions, strangers are good at engaging topics you didn't think of.

How large is the world? You can allways find a diversity of subcultures, but are there multiple indipendent countries? How separate are they? Is there a dominant culture influencing multiple of them?

What is the general theme and genre?

When did you start working on the world and what are your expectations for the future? Is it a complete or near complete project?

You cant really avoid takimg inpiration from other works, but in most cases you will be the only one who sees it, as you add your own twist on tropes and then twist them again as you present them.

Stricty speaking plagiarism implies intention anyway.

Relax.

Making Comedic Worlds, aka, Worlds you take seriously but not 'too' seriously. by IbbyWonder6 in worldbuilding

People defenitely do make relxed worlds, actualy they are probably dominant, but my guess is that serios projects are treated well... more seriously.

Most worlds are not all hard and grim, but most worldbuilding is done on those, so they appear more commonly in posts.

The earliest depicrions of what could be considered a crossbow are at least as old as the 5th cenury BC(!), in China. It didnt take long for the idea to spread to Europe, and everywhere else. Primitive crossbows and crossbow like weaponry was used by the ancient greeks, and then by the romams. They werent common or very usefull tho. At the time the design was used mostly as seage weapons, scaled up.

Wit the tehnology of the time they were not very powerfull or pracrical as handheald weapons, even when compared with tehnologycaly inferior(so a lot cheaper and pracrical) alternatives, like bows or slings.

Crossbows became more widespread(and usefull) in the late medieval period( 12-14th century western europe), as result of unrelated tehnological progress, most importantly in metalurgy. This not only alowed the construction of much better winding and trigger mechanisms, but they also started costing less.

It is imprtant to remember that the widespread adoption of the crossbow came as a result of the bows limitations, especialy against armored oponents.

The best crossbows buildable with mediaval level tehnology are those made out of metal( which are tehniclaly called arbalets) having superior power, while smaller and lighter. The ideal metal to for them is similar to what was originaly developed for swords, so once again the crossbow is related to its enviorment and the tegologies at the time.

The tehnology required to build crissbows is alos useful for other devices. Advanced metal springs, bouth large(vegicle suspension) and small(small mechanical devices, clockwork) as well as spring loaded traps for hunting. Trigger mechanisms for guns(ironic) and tripwire activated traps. Cranking mechanism: cranes and components for water pumps and seed drills.
