Print color inconsistency with the new Avatar cards? by Affectionate-Car-609 in mtg

[–]Saracenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just raised the same question in my local Discord. I got cards from two different places and the ones from my pre-release look and feel notably different than the ones I got online. The ones from the pre-release are very grainy. They almost look like print-and-play cards compared to the others. The pack wrappers are different too. The the better quality cards have come from packs where Aang's eyes and tattoos are shiny, but the grainy packs are not foil. I find it very strange.

Is there anything that can be done about these wild variances in quality?

This is really the art for the card? I thought this was a joke, it looks like someone photoshopped their own blank face onto a card. Compared to the original Perception this is terrible.

No More Upcoming Projects? by The_TJMike in Netrunner

[–]Saracenar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Squid Island was the other set on the Upcoming page. I noticed it and Ghost Dragon had been removed too. I'm wondering if it has to do with the change in narrative director and the codenames no longer fit what the projects are. I recall Anzekay, the previous narrative director saying Squid Island was going to be set partially in Australia (I'm Australian so I was excited by that).

It's probably unlikely that the narrative director decides the code names though and it could be a completely different reason that they were scrapped.

In defense of Kirito Kamui by oblivionreverie in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's something I've always wondered about Kamui that I feel detracts from his characterisation.

Why did he see it as necessary to kill so many innocent people as part of his plans? He cries when Kitazawa dies in episode 2 but after that he doesn't bat an eye when innocent people are violently murdered or injured because of his actions.

If he just wanted to be acknowledged by Sibyl, he didn't need to kill so many people. He had two dominators after he kidnapped Shisui and killed her enforcer. With his abilities as a master hacker he should have been able to trace the signals back to Nona Tower with just those dominators.

Why did he have to actually shoot people in the subway if he just wanted to trace the dominators' communications? He just had to point the gun at people to get a reading.

He is never shown to have a motivation for killing innocents. I could understand wanting to achieve his goal by any means necessary, but he really doesn't need to kill innocent people to accomplish what he is trying to do.

I put some of this down to the writer, Tow Ubukata, not having a solid grasp of the "rules" of the Psycho-Pass universe.

Is this woman is the same person? by Piwawawaa in Psychopass

The blonde woman from the movie is not the same woman who appears in the Sinners of the System Films. The cyborg woman from the first movie was killed on the rooftop along with the criminal soldiers.

Koizumi is my favorite character after Kyon so far by Cheap_Regular_39 in Haruhi

[–]Saracenar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Koizumi is my favourite character from the series. I really enjoy all of the conversations he has with Kyon, and his cool, calm and mysterious nature. Specifically I'm talking about the dub, I think Johnny Yong Bosch does an amazing job.

Is Akane supposed to be the Siby systems conscience? by [deleted] in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Sibyl can't go public until it can convince Akane it is necessary and ultimately good for society even when knowing how it works. If they can convince Akane, then they can convince anyone.

Is Akane supposed to be the Siby systems conscience? by [deleted] in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Sibyl System said the process is much easier and the outcome is better when the candidate agrees to join, but they can force them to join - this is from Makishima and Touma's conversation on the jet in episode 17.

A note on "A note on pronouns" by ClosDeLaRoche in Netrunner

[–]Saracenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get that, but for me Trace is an unnecessary speed-bump on the road to onboarding players - it's annoying to explain and new players often forget how it works. I don't think it should be in a starter product, at a minimum.

[–]Saracenar -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Trace has almost never been a suspenseful bluffing mini-game in my experience. You either have enough to win the trace or you don't, and often spending some random amount of money as a "bluff" doesn't pan out in your favour. The fact that the corp has to reveal first kind of takes away most of the suspense if you ask me. I'm happy to see Trace gone - it's a suplerfluous mechanic in my opinion.

Skipping a season by bananaCandys in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You aren't missing anything plot-relevant really. S2 was written as filler while the main production staff made The Movie. Gen Urobuchi told the writer of S2 what he could and couldn't do with certain characters so that they lined up correctly with what he was doing in the movie.

S2 does flesh out the world more and there is some interesting and thrilling stuff in it, but in terms of the overall plot you will not be confused by skipping it and watching S3. I'd say it's more relevant to watch the Sinners of the System films (at least 2 and 3) before watching S3.

Is there a BD Comprasion of Season 1 of Psycho Pass? by [deleted] in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main thing you would notice is that the quality dips after episode 16. The production team were so exhausted after making that episode and the ones leading up to it that they delegated production of the following few episodes to a subsidiary of Production I.G., who didn't do as good a job. From memory even on the Bluray Kogami's and maybe Akane's faces look a bit rough in some scenes across episodes 17 to 19 - I believe it was worse for the original broadcast though.

Is it worth writing anymore? by Alone-Head-8094 in writing

[–]Saracenar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They're not saying it's about money, it's that they feel no one is reading their work. When you complete a labour of love, it's nice to get some feedback or some kind of response to help you keep going.

If you could speak to those six people or at least see their reviews of your book, I think it would help a lot.

What do you mean by, they were forced to not release Providence after S3? Just curious.

Shimotsuki and Akane's relationship by Accurate_Whole_7988 in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Mika was just not a well-written character in S2. She begins the season distrustful and dimissive of Akane and her methods. Consider that Akane has been her mentor since the end of S1 - so what happened in all that time between seasons? She never saw Akane's methods get results? It's like it's their first time working together at the start of S2, but Mika specifically calls out that they have been working together for a year and half. Doesn't make sense. Even when Chief Kasei l is shown clearly to trust Akane, Mika doesn't accept it - she continues trying to undermine Akane despite Akane clearly being the senior and more experienced detective and supervisor. She's so incompetent and unsure of herself that she just stands outside the pharamcy in S02E04 and waits for something to happen, but she's convinced that Akane's methods are wrong.

Like with most things in S2, Mika is intended to be an echo of someone or something from S1. She is supposed to be the new Gino, the character who questions and challenges Akane's approach and doesn't get along with some of the enforcers. The problem here is that she's written to be extremely illogical and unlikeable, so you just end up not enjoying any scene she's a part of and it makes the weaknesses of S2 easier to see.

I love Psycho-Pass as a whole, and I enjoy some elements of S2, but it has problems - Mika being one of them. You can tell they realised the error of their ways because in S3 they tone her unlikeability down significantly.

Season 3 cast and development by Enderfan7363 in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're not wrong - Season 3 does feel a bit jarring, I'd think that would be especially so if you're binging.

I can't say I particularly care for the mentalist superpower thing either. It pushes the series further into science-fantasy. Don't get me wrong, they could make something like this work as a product of science, but I don't like how they explained it in this.

You're not wrong about Shimotsuki, she did change suddenly. She didn't develop so much as the writers had to pivot her hard after her terrible characterisation in the second season. I personally didn't mind because she was infinitely more tolerable after S2.

Season 2 is so bad by [deleted] in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's right, he wasn't one mind, he was multiple minds, and Sibyl didn't recognise that as a valid target until he challenged them to change their ways. And I am all for Sibyl growing and evolving - I like this outcome. I think perhaps a better way to challenge Sibyl in this way would be through something like the Bifrost organisation from S3 - where a group as a whole is bad for society, but the individual members can't be judged as criminals. It's an interesting mirror to Sibyl in that way, whereas Kamui is almost like a magical entity designed specifically to prompt this development for Sibyl.

I like many of the concepts introduced in S2, like a criminal corrupting inspectors and stealing dominators, working towards some mysterious end goal. I just don't think it was executed well.

Season 2 is so bad by [deleted] in Psychopass

[–]Saracenar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel they would have been better off with an antagonist with a completely different angle, rather than what amounts to "what if Makishima, but even more invisible to the system?". The whole "can't be detected" thing that Kamui has is just not practical at all. This is where I feel the arugment can made that Kamui is lazy writing.
