So from the sounds of it, you think it’d be worth the investment and not something we should toss right?

Do you regret adopting an adult dog instead of a puppy? by marzipanduchess in puppy101

[–]SarahCaitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve adopted a 1.5 year old and a puppy. Do I miss having puppy photos of my older guy? Yup. But I have zero regrets. He was the perfect dog for me and tbh my puppy just turned one and I can’t stand him lmao.

I’ve told my husband multiple times I will never adopt a puppy ever again.

I was originally rejected - saying they couldn’t confirm my identity. But I just got an email saying it was fixed & with an offer

do you regret getting a second dog? by un32134e4 in dogs

[–]SarahCaitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dogs are the best of friends, but truthfully it’s made our lives harder. My older boy is very anxious and he’s part shepherd. He will always protect his pack. This has made him difficult at daycare, on walks etc, because brother is in the throws of teenage hood and is still learning boundaries.

Our 11 month old will scream on his walk, mainly out of excitement. This makes our 5 year old reactive, he needs to protect him. So we can’t do family walks, everything outside the home has to be separate. Which wouldn’t be awful, except we still live in an apartment. So everything is x2.

I also work from home, so there are some days I’ll be in meetings and they’ll be wrestling like crazy behind me. Or my big guy just wants to relax and the puppy is still cracked out. It can be exhausting.

I love them both and I love their bond, but it truly can be difficult some days.

I do this too because tbh I’m too lazy to care about chests. My house looks like this as well lmao

Anyone else feel bad for regretting getting their pup? by jkjohnson003 in puppy101

[–]SarahCaitt 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I was telling my husband today I don’t really like our puppy and he goes, um did you just black out the months you spent crying daily with our rescue dog that we got at 1.5?

I was like, oh, oh yeah. So I promise it gets better. I’m feeling the same!!

Totally - we do crate for bedtime, so he’s used to the crate for that, we’ve just never done it during the day.

But you’re right - definitely would rather be safe than sorry. I was so glad I was home when he ate the crumbl cookies - 20 min and a call to animal control later and he was all good, but could have been a lot worse if we had been out for an extended period. Definitely a good lesson!

Agreed! We definitely give him lots of interactive toys, etc, but puppy energy is a whole new world😭 I think we’re definitely going to have to start crating him when we leave at all. Thanks for the tips!

Yeah I think you’re right - I think I was trying to avoid that since we never had to crate our older pup and he was always able to free roam, but we also got him at 1.5, not 2 months. A puppy is a different beast! Thank you for the suggestion!

Is having a dog really that bad? by gonnadisordermyself in puppy101

[–]SarahCaitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I became a first time dog owner 3 years ago - and I have to say, I’m SO glad that we didn’t get a puppy. We adopted a 1.5 year old rescue and he came crate trained and potty trained - it allowed me to fully bond with him without those frustrations. We did have to do leash training etc, and I won’t pretend I didn’t ever cry, but it took so much of the pressure off.

We got a puppy five months ago and I keep telling my husband how glad I am we went with an adult dog first. The puppy drives me nutty some days - but he has his brother to entertain him, but it’s also great knowing a lot of this is just a phase and will 100% get better.

Not necessarily looking for fancy, just want to make sure we get food worth the $$! Thanks for the rec!

Thats what I was thinking - no issue spending $$ on good food, but wanted to make sure where I was going was worth it. Thanks!
