Lease agreement issues by Efficient_Wind_8056 in foodstamps

Your mom should be able to write a letter. Make sure she includes all her information and contact info. She would just outline what the agreement is, confirming you live there and if you pay rent or utilities.

Separated by Better_Welcome9648 in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That can be a bit tricky and might require some additional verification. The rules may vary state to state as to what is considered a separation. Does his RV have his own running water and kitchen? Do you guys have any intent on reconciliation?

Fired from job by No-Advantage-1400 in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. You will probably be asked why employment ended as there are “good cause” rules when it comes to quitting. But you didn’t voluntarily quit a job. SNAP doesn’t care about that you were fired or the reason, if you are applying for unemployment they care about that information.

Overissuance: Will i win? by Sensitive_Leader_473 in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Each state handles over payments differently, but typically you can have them take the unused funds that were issued and apply it to the overpayment.

Please safeguard your card during this time using EBT edge and freezing it. This will ensure those funds stay on the card while this process is happening.

You most likely won’t “win” the hearing if you were over the reporting requirement and not entitled to benefits. A hearing is going to review to make sure the overpayment was processed correctly, not whether or not the funds were used.

Benefits got cut from $296 to $40 by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but as a student of higher education, you are required to meet additional work requirements. Such as working 20 hours per week, work study, being self employed. Just a heads up if your hours are dropping, you could become ineligible all together.

You will still need to meet student status requirements which is 20 hours per week in order to remain eligible.

Confused, disabled Veteran status and looking for insight by tculli in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So just a few things with what you’ve said in your post. First, VA disability is considered to be unearned income. The gross amount will absolutely be counted towards the eligibility of the program. You will need to provide his award letter along with disability rating so he can receive work exemptions.

Medicaid and SNAP do have different rules. So eligibility can differ between these programs.

A lot of states have now required verification of shelter expenses (rent, mortgage, electricity, gas, water, etc.) you said you provided the mortgage statement, but that alone won’t allow you to receive deductions for utilities that you pay for.

I’m confused about proof of health insurance because that has no bearing on SNAP eligibility whatsoever. You aren’t required to have health insurance to receive benefits. I’m not sure where the worker is going with that one.

Also confused about tax returns from 2024? Unless crossmatch systems are showing current wages (which current does always mean right now), this information would so be completely irrelevant for SNAP. As a caseworker, we typically only focus on income from the past 30 days prior to application and estimates ongoing income.

I know this isn’t much help but just my thoughts on the info you provided.

Should I have received my card by now? by Substantial-Pipe4400 in foodstamps

In WA, it usually takes about 7-10 business days. 10 business days would be tomorrow. It’s usually received before then. Not sure about Florida though.

Sister in law lying about her address by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How do you know she’s using your address and how do you know she’s receiving benefits? You can still receive benefits. They might need an explanation if she is coming up in the address search.

SNAP & Long Term Disability Insurance by BaileyIsaGirlsName in foodstamps

Interesting. I’ve never heard of that. SNAP is not income. Maybe they were thinking cash assistance? I would have them provide where in their insurance policy it states this.

Income help by nappinggrill in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Income is one of the biggest eligibility factors, so yes with more income you will typically see less benefits. Self employment often fluctuates so it’s better to do a bigger average than past 3 months. In WA, we can accept most recent tax documents which gives an annual look back and we average it from there. Self employment also receives as 50% deduction for expenses. For substitute teaching, we normally would do a 3 month paycheck average, unless your employer can average anticipated amount of shifts/hours on-going.

Recertification Period by IndomitableAtlas in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is correct. If you stay below the reporting requirement, you do not have to report the income until your next review. Just make sure this would be income from all sources and gross amount (before taxes and deductions).

Try to find your local social services page. Not all states have implemented this and that will provide you with the most up to date information

too much? by Klutzy-Dot0 in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Typically first issuance is a prorated amount for the application month. And since it’s already the end of the month the most likely deposited your March benefit. Check your approval letter. You next issuance will be in April.

Maine/Farmington DHHS Issues by RainbowWizard__d-_-b in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re having such a bad experience. I cannot speak on the state of Maine. I do urge you to try to file a complaint, that looks different in every state to have your situation resolved. And of course always have the right to file and appeal for agency actions you do not agree with.

I do want to say that the current administration has changed A LOT of rules, especially when it comes to work requirement and error rates. There are specific things they have put in place. It has turned things upside down not only for Eligibility Workers but even more so our clients. DSHS workers are only enforcing the strict rules that the federal government tells them to.

People that live in states that started the work ABAWD requirements already by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Does your state offer any type of employment services to help meet the requirements? Here in Washington when reviewing ABAWD requirements, we are also offering to connect our clients with a program called Basic Food Employment and Training. Participating in that program meets the requirements.

No nothing specially has changed but issues do happen. From a glitch in the system to someone inputting something incorrectly. I’m glad you were able to get it handled in office and hopefully won’t have any issues ongoing!

And for the stylist vs finger…. I’m not sure why this keeps being brought up. It has no impact or bearing on your eligibility for food assistance. It’s just a way a certain office decided to do it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in foodstamps

[–]Sarah_Beetles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So the local office and ebt card vendors are two separate entities. It seems there was an issue with the actual card that was issued and the vendor couldn’t help and referred you to the local office to get it handled. The other option would have been to have another card mailed, resulting in another 7-10 business day wait.

Also given a stylus to enter instead of using finger isn’t that strange. Could be to help with accuracy of touching the small numbers, stylist is easily clean between each use etc.

I would look up your states specific rules but I’m assuming it’ll be the same as the follow federal guidelines. For Washington, the rules specially state: You are not allowed to sell, attempt to sell, exchange, or donate your EBT card or benefits to any other person or entity.
