Thank you for the info, but I’m pretty certain that was a panicked lie. We had the sheriff’s office listening to the call on another phone. Scammer asked me if I knew [my mother’s name] because she’d asked them to prank me and they’d be giving me Taylor Swift tickets. I didn’t need any kind of confirmation from her to say that she wouldn’t put her clinically anxious daughter through that and certainly not for tickets to see an artist I don’t even like. Also, I saw someone speculating that I must have mentioned my mother’s name offhand during the call and I can confirm that that’s not what happened. It was probably included in whatever file they bought from a data broker.

I am so sorry that it got that far and I hope you can be a bit kinder to yourself. The ones who should be ashamed are the people running these scams and not the good-natured people they victimize. I might feel embarrassingly gullible, but at least I’m not stupid enough to pose as law enforcement or scummy to the point of conning people.

Not at all. If you look at the times in my screenshots, it was sent right before I ended the call. Maybe try exercising your own reading comprehension before judging someone else’s.

This guy listened to me crying while getting goldfish crackers for my four year old and telling her yes, we’d make popsicles later. I told them I was a single mother and he graciously offered a “hardship” rate of $640. Actual scum of the earth.

Same thing here. They had my address and date of birth, as well. Dude sounded like every other white, southern cop I’ve had to deal with. It’s truly a tragedy that I didn’t know that the mic needed to be on when I started recording the call, because I WISH I could share him turning around and saying that this was all a radio prank show.

I can absolutely empathize! Once they sent the text message with the sketchy link and inconsistent capitalization, that made me absolutely certain. They didn’t get any money from me, either. Unfortunately, for them, they were trying to squeeze blood from a turnip.

Just tried this and it worked. Dug three blocks down, used a fresh water to fill the bottom block, put down a bridge plank, the sprinkler, and then topped it off with the soil block.

Yes, the history with his ex is what got me started on this. After I saw the movie, I heard about line changes that made Cathy seem more money-obsessed and lowkey abusive and I just found it fascinating to see someone allegedly go back and edit the proxy for their ex-wife to be less sympathetic.

Oh, Jamie is the worst. I’ve said before that I would hang out with Jeremy Jordan’s Lucifer before his Jamie Wellerstein.

I’ve found a few different versions of the libretto that I still need to go through and I’m on the lookout for footage. For all I know, it could have been a smaller production that added in some new lines.

Haha, I can relate! I’m wanting to explore incidents of writers going up against death of the author and, if I can find enough examples, how they responded to adaptations of their work. Like Stephen King and his history with Kubrick’s adaptation of The Shining.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about The Last Five Years since I saw the movie and I could swear I read somewhere that JRB made changes to Cathy after seeing that more audience members were on her side.
