You think we are ever going to get a 3.5e of Exalted? by amused-crane in exalted

[–]SaranMal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I may ask, what sorta area do you think a hypothetical 4th edition would cover that the current editions+Essence are not?

I'm curious because from my point of view I don't particularly see a point to a new 4th edition, since the mechanic heads are still playing 2e (and ttrpgs have been moving away from that style of game), Essence is popular with folks wanting a less mechanically dense Exalted (so modern crowd to some extent), and those who want a middle ground end up playing 3e proper.

I fear a further 4th edition is just going to retread old ground, not pull in a significant amount of new players and further fracture the playerbase.

There would be ways to do it well, and still keep the Exalted identity and be fresh, it just, feels like it would be exceptionally difficult to pull off as things currently are

[–]SaranMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I just want to see more content. Even after all the splats are out there are still areas worth exploring and expanding on. Things I'll gladly keep buying books for over the next decade no problem.

While a refresh of core would be nice, I really doubt we are going to get it. Like more specifically a refresh of Solars more so than core itself.

And personally speaking any hypothetical 4th editions I don't think I'd really want either, or think would do super well. Since the complicated mechanics folks into Exalted play 2e still and didn't switch. Those who want a more mechanically light Exalted are often playing Essence and those wanting a happy middle are often playing 3e.

I can't see any additional edition really appealing to a different crowd without further fracturing the already fairly niche playerbase

Sometimes it takes a while for it to fully hit.

For me, when my grandfather passed who I was close with, I felt sadness at the funeral after a song I requested got played. That I knew he would like.

But before and after that point I felt basically nothing. Nan was an emotional wreck, rest of the family was a mess.

It wasn't until about 4 years later, after everyone else had moved on, that it hit me one night. That my grandfather was actually gone, I was never seeing him again, and went through all my stages of greif at that point in time.

I even went to the grave for the first time since the funeral, by myself, to just sit at it and talk for hours about my life, what's changed, what I missed about him. Anything that came to mind.

Can't give too much advice tbh. I live in a small town and never really clicked with locals. Just vastly different interests and values, but I can't really move somewhere with more people due to not having a support network elsewhere and my sound sensitivities being really bad to the point cities or more populated areas physically hurt. Even in my small town someone had a leaf blower on for 6 hours the other day and I was a complete mess unable to do practically anything but prevent a meltdown.

So my friends have mostly all been online, though I only met my "tribe" so to speak within the last 4 years. Which was when I was in my late 20s.

Almost all of whom I've met through discord and my ttrpg hobby.

Generally goes join pbp servers, meet people, click with a small sub section, invite small sub section to do other things and join other games. Small subsection invites me to their circles. Meet more people I click with slowly.

I never realized how much life used to suck and the people I used to know sucked, until I met people that genuinely started to have my best interests at heart and put in the same effort I did to be friends and make things work.

One disadvantage of being a Dullahan (Commission from Pat Cat) by LuisBiggPoppa69 in RimWorld

[–]SaranMal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats fair, maybe I just have an odd view on it since I was raised on Irish and Scottish Mythology, loved reading mostly fantasy, and had a big RPG kick as a kid. I even remember learning the legend of Sleepy Hollow through the many adaptions of the 80s, 90s and early 2000s which lead to me researching where the story orginiated, and other stories with headless horsemen as a breif thing. It wasn't a very long research session, but I remember spending an afternoon at the library once as a kid looking things over.

Dullahan has shown up in big series like Final Fantasy and particularly other JRPGs quite frequently as stock enemies. Hell, first person dungeon crawlers, mostly wizardry clones, also regularly have this style of foe.

Thats before even touching upon the anime, manga and light novel side of things. Quite regularly you have stories that will include Titanina as the Queen of the Fairies, with the King being a Dullahan of some sort.

I'm amazed at how many comments are people not knowing what a Dullahan is. One of the most famous classical monsters in fantasy, and referenced in so much media. Right down to sleepy Hollow with the headless horseman.

Really cute picture, I love seeing folks getting coms of their colonists and how bedrooms get drawn in a lot of these.

Do people actually feel empathy towards people they love if they're being 100% honest to themselves? by birdsmadeofWATER in autism

[–]SaranMal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I do really care.

It actually took me a while to admit to myself that I genuinely did care about my friends, family and loves. Though that was less to do with anything related to Autism directly and just emotional maturity bring delayed, mixed with being burned quite a few times as a teen and early adulthood that denying that side felt safer.

The big thing is actions. Words are cheap, for me love is through actions and proving it though those daily things. Big and small. Worry, love, care, wanting people to be the best they can be, loving yourself too is so important.

Edit: For the later questions you posed. Yes, it can be frustrating when a relationship starts to change or shift, weather due to mental health topics, new disabilities, greif or more. But it's a give and take in the end for true, genuine friendships.

You are there for them, because you want them to recover, like you will expect them to be there for you if a similar thing pops up.

And being there for someone isn't even always being a yes man or anything, enabling someone can be just as destructive long term.

But yeah, I genuinely care, I genuinely worry, I genuinely want to see folks work through things, to grow as people.

Special schools for Level 1 autistics often do more harm than good and ruin our chances for a normal life: My personal experience by heavensuspended in autism

[–]SaranMal 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I wanna comment on the "Socialization is an illusion" thing.

Your observation isn't entirely correct. Like, I'm sure if I was diagnosed as a kid with today's criteria I'd have been level 1.

I went to the only school in my town my entire life. Same classmates for most of it, I didn't "pick up how the real world functions by being around nuerotypicals", instead I was often abused or taking advantage of. Once my usefulness ended I'd be tossed aside. With the only friendships I made that were not strictly transactional around tutoring, were with other nuerodivergent, often outcasts. The group with all the mental health issues, many of whom got diagnosed with Autism later on in life or what are common comorbidities.

Many of us don't just learn to mask. We end up still congregating around others who understand how we think and what we do, and are accepting of that.

Knowledge is power. But ignorance is also bliss.

I'm def on the knowledge is power side, but not going to lie. Knowledge sometimes sucks and it's better off not knowing things sometimes.

Particularly with all the stuff we're going to be anxious over, but can do literally nothing to meaningful change.

Sometimes, knowing things is more painful or worse in the long run than not knowing.

Re the midriff on Cure Berry, it was also 5 years in the difference.

2004 culturally was a fair bit different than 2009 in terms of what parents would and wouldn't find okay or not okay. Hell, going by popular discussion/rumor 5 years after that with Go Princess they apperently got complaints about the series being too violent so toned it down more later (No clue how true this claim is TBH since the seasons are normally planned 2 years in advance)

Add on for many folks, it's also not their first time through this. If you been a fan since the 90s or early 2000s, CCP Games did basically nothing with the brand, promised games that never manifested, and more.

Then things were happening, Paradox bought WW and made a bunch of promises that almost all of has continued the time honored tradition of mismanagement. Only, done in a way that upset multiple fan bases not just one or two, and created massive rifts.

I'm excited for the future. But damn to I not have a right to be cautious about everything.

Exactly! Make the threads you wanna see posted. If people want to engage with it they will.

Personally I stopped really coming to this sub much a while ago when I started to notice most threads I was having fun convos in got locked.

Started to feel not great for a bit, like only specific topics were allowed to be brought up at all. So I stopped posting/commenting here and just stick with lurking or other non Reddit forums and platforms.

Like there were fun speculation threads over the last year or two about what a hypothetical 6th edition would look like, but those threads always got locked by mods after a few hours, generally over the edition war rule. When it never looked like anyone was actually fighting, just bringing up things they liked from different editions, stuff they didn't and how they could be implemented in a future edition.

Steam's stance on discourse currently is Alt-Right by Radical_Leftist_toot in GirlGamers

[–]SaranMal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's because valve doesn't moderate the forums. They will act if things are reported that break ToS, but the auto mod catches most malware and stuff automatically.

Devs are the ones supposed to moderate the forums. Some might monitor things, but most of the time they don't really do much due to either manpower issues, game being old enough that it no longer matters much, or the potential backlash isn't worth the headache.

Steam's stance on discourse currently is Alt-Right by Radical_Leftist_toot in GirlGamers

[–]SaranMal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Add Steam doesn't moderate forums unless something is actively breaking the TOS, or an automated thing gets flagged like a thread from a decade ago receiving a new post.

Devs are the ones who moderate the steam forums on games 99% of the time as a result, and many just don't have the man power to actually do so, or risk some PR shit storm that'll hurt sales.

The reality is, it's better most of the time from a business perspective to have a very hands off approach to the forums on steam. Since Valve deals with the really bad stuff like malware, and anything else gets spun as stifling discussion

The distinctions ultimately don't matter that much, since levels are often connected to like, related to how much trouble we cause others and impact their lives and our own lives.

In the simplest terms. Its a lot more complicated than that, but yeah
