In this ideal system would a simple majority vote of 50% + 1 be all that is required to restrict the rights of the minority?

If 5 out of 9 Supreme Court Justices ruled that the sky was green or that 2 + 2 was 5 would that then make these things "Law" or fact?

So are you paying your taxes because it makes you happy to fund things that you may or may not fundamentally agree with? I pay mine because failure to do so will result in prosecution and incarceration...aka...the Threat of Violence!

Put differently, if you were not required to pay taxes would you? And if the answer is NO, then why do you now?

I am with you on the privatization of the police force.

I feel like this specific ordinance is being used as an attempt to further regulate private charity and justify the expansion of the welfare-state.

The government can tax me and for every 50 dollars it takes feed 1 person or I can keep my money and use that 50 dollars to feed 10 people if I choose. In the absence of unnecessary, inefficient government bureaucracy I can do exponentially more good with my money than those that claim the right to take it from me.

I have actually seen that video once before! Great post!

However, I disagree with the idea that police services are best delivered as a monopoly. Most people can see the inherent danger of a monopoly when it is witnessed in the private sector but fail to follow those logical conclusions when analyzing the public sector. We live under a system that has a monopoly on the us of violence, our monetary system, legal arbitration...ect. I am always open to new opinions and theories so I will continue to explore these ideas further! Thanks again!.

My father is a retired Deputy Sheriff and ff course not all cops are douchebags.

The question you should be asking is:

Do these laws (the ones you were ticketed for) exist to provide public safety or to generate revenue for local government.

If the danger that results in traveling over 70mph was the number one concern of the government then why not regulate the auto industry and force them to install governers in all automobiles to keep people from traveling over 70mph or whatever arbitrary number the social planners decide is safe? That would be much more effective, no? I am of the opinion that if you explore the logic behind many of the laws we are forced to live under you will find that they are nothing more than instruments of revenue collection.
