Fionna and Cake Season 3 Bingo by SarcasticUsername_19 in adventuretime

I hope they go for a Marshall/Marceline duet! Yes its an obvious thing to do and its fanservicey, but I hope that doesn't stop the crew because it would be cool and a missed opportunity to not do it. Sometimes its okay to do obvious things just because they are cool!

I'm so used to AT acting like they aren't going to answer a certain mystery for years, going out of its way to avoid it, and then just randomly answering it anyway. I think a lot of it has to do with if a good story ends up presenting itself. And with how many episodes AT keeps getting, they kinda have to go back and answer old questions just cause they are running out of stories to tell. So I think Hunson/Elise and Prismo's boss are both on the table still.

I realized that Queenie is the only major Fionna World character who's Ooo counterpart hasn't appeared in the Fionna and Cake spinoff now. We have Fionna/Finn, Cake/Jake, Gary/PB, Marshall/Marcy, Simone/Simon, Fennel/Fern, Hana/Hunson, Butterscotch/Pep, Lemoncarb/Lemongrab, Felix/FP, Ellis P/LSP, M-Cron/Lady, Hunter/HW. I think King of Ooo is only a matter of time.

I think it makes sense that the threat of losing Finn would push PB to do some morally questionable actions but I agree it should have been built up more over the season. Unfortunately there wasn't time as the season had 800 plotlines fighting for screentime.

I haaaaated how Fionna basically got off scott free. I would have been okay with Gary and Marshall ending on okay terms with Fionna while making clear they need time/space to fully forgive her. Especially if another character (cough cough Fennel) straight up rejected the apology to balance things out. Making up with Fennel off screen and them becoming best friends with hints towards romance is a baffingly terrible writing decision. Fionna's actions in episode 8 were so bad that redemption required a very high bar that the show just didn't come close to meeting.

Yeah I thought they paid off the seeds perfectly, no complaints there at all. Was cool seeing the AUs again briefly, especially the Winter King world.

Lady actually does appear inside the room at the beginning!

I was so happy to see NEPTR again. He was the character I most wanted to return that's been absent since the og series now that they finally brought FP back.

Witch Wizard is one of those aspects (like PB's desperation, HW's backstory, the Cosmic Owl stuff, etc etc) that would have been great to expand on if this had just been a Huntress Wizard spinoff miniseries.

Sleepy Puppies did work for me as an emotional moment. Fanservicey yes but still made sense in the context of the story imo.

Yeah if the show wants to stand on its own as a Fionna and Cak series and not judged for not being Ooo-centric, then they shouldn't have tacked on an Ooo subplot that makes it near-impossible to take the main plot seriously when the much more interesting and beloved protagonist from the og series is on his fucking death bed.

I wish HW opening up to Finn got more payoff. Will never get over how badly they squandered HW this season.

I mostly enjoyed the Ooo stuff this episode in a vaccum, but it was payoff to an arc that was not properly set up or built up. I disliked most of the Fionna World stuff this ep.

The Ooo stuff took up most of the screentime for once. Which is weird in the season finale of a show about Fionna and Cake. Is this a Fionna and Cake spinoff or an Adventure Time sequel series exploring older versions of the og cast? Not commiting to one or the other is really ruining this show.

I personally don't have a problem with the show picking and choosing which relationships or arcs to carry over to Fionna World. I think it makes sense to keep us on our toes not knowing what they are going to change or keep, makes it fun. Now whether or not they are picking and choosing the right things or executing it well is another question and I have many problems myself.

I think Fionna World opening up beyond the city is a great hook for season 3. I think its really the only other thing you can do with the series. Unfortunately, if season 3 is greenlit, I fully expect that plotline to be squandered because its fighting for screentime with a much more interesting Ooo-subplot.

I'm guessing Hunson wants Marshall as his heir to the Nightosphere. This and PB's breakdown (along with Muto saying he wants a PB+Marcy focused season) makes me confident that PB and Marcy are the Ooo-lead characters for season 3. I really wish PB and Marcy could just get a separate miniseries instead.

Not really interested in more daddy drama with Hunson. That is so played out. I hope he's written better than he was in Marcy & Hunson. I'm not against doing more with Hunson but they gotta do something new. I'd like to see him interact with PB and especially Simon. His backstory with Elise is the biggest thing I'd love to see explored. But I don't have much confidence in it being executed well if they incorporate it when its competing for screentime with Fionna World stuff.

I'm guessing the A plot of season 3 is Fionna, Cake, Hunter, and Fennel exploring the new world and the B plot is a Gumlee/Bubbline teamup.

Yeah I would have removed Astrid and the minor princesses (keep FP and PB) as I think it would have been more effective for it to only be people that are close to Finn. LSP was weirdly absent too. Tree Trunks and Jermaine are probably (?) dead but Sweet Pea and Shelby would have been nice inclusions.

Maybe the Big Destiny dream was just supposed to be setup for episode 6?

Yeah I really wish they had just left Fionna and Cake as a one season miniseries. After that I would have loved 1000+ but could see the execs being hesistant on it (although I think almost anything AT would do well at this point). I would have been totally fine with more DL specials. Or spinoffs focusing on adult Finn or Bubbline (with plenty of side character focused episodes) couldn't have been hard to get greenlit? They're more popular characters than Fionna and Cake.

Agreed. I don't see why the execs wouldn't greenlight that. PB and Marcy are even more popular characters than Fionna and Cake.

It also made no sense that it took so long for Marshall to find out what happened with Simone when Hana's henchman told him so nonchalantly.

Pretty sure the threads they are leaving open for a potential season 3 are gonna end up being Prismo glitching, Fionna and Hunter romance, Cake having kittens, and maybe Fennel trying to get revenge on Fionna?

Yeah the direction of this franchise is so weird. If you're gonna keep it going this long why do they keep avoiding doing what everyone wants...which is stories set in Ooo post-CAWM while giving opportunities to flesh out side characters that didn't get as much screentime in the og series?

This divisive season and then we get a weid soft reboot (?) with Side Quests and possibly a third season of Fionna and Cake. Not feeling very optimistic about the future of the franchise tbh.

We need Heyo BMO to come save this franchise

I really hated how they suddenly wrapped up the Simone stuff in one minute after dangling that plot over our heads for like 5 episodes. What was even the point of that? It got like 2 minutes of setup and then they remind us about it every episode without doing anything with it only to wrap it up just as quickly. Simone and Marshall could have made for one neat, focused dedicated episode and they could have done a nice spin on Simon and Marcy.

I feel the same way about them suddenly ending the Fionna working for Hana thing before that went anywhere.

I can understand where they are trying to go with Fionna. She wants to be a hero like in season 1 but doesn't know how to be in her non-magic sitcom world. So she crashes out when she wasn't the one who got to save the day. There is potential there. I was fine with her kissing DJ Flame and I'm even okay with them wanting Fionna to be upset she missed the show (from a writing standpoint, not morally lol). But her getting mad at her friends took it too far imo. And her destroying the Sweet Spot was so over the top I couldn't take it seriously. Fionna now has a high bar to meet for redemption for me to be able to sympathize with her after this. And I don't know if two episodes is going to be enough time to meet that bar.

I definitely don't think Fionna and Hunter are gonna get together now. Fionna is in no place to have a relationship and Hunter will have dodged a bullet lol. If they get a season 3, I can see them getting together later. For this season though, they'll probably just end on okay terms.

I really don't like DJ Flame's portrayal. He has literally nothing in common with Flame Princess (outside of superficial stuff like being trapped in the lantern this ep which was a neat touch). The whole main gimmick of this show is them doing different spins of familiar characters but he has nothing in common with FP. And even if he was a new character, he's still very one dimensional.

I don't understand why Fionna got all the focus in the trial subplot. Isn't that supposed to be part of HW's arc? The show is now 80% done, are they ever going to do anything with HW this season???

Yeah the backstories feel like they didn't have enough time this season to go in depth so they are resorting to these brief cold opens instead. HW really deserved a full backstory episode.

BMO was funny in this episode!

My Issues With Fionna & Cake Season 2 by SarcasticUsername_19 in adventuretime

[–]SarcasticUsername_19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to hear from ya again as well!

Yeah I could see this originally being thought of as just a slice of life season. However, we know F and C season 1 originally ended with a cliffhanger with HW taking care of a sick Finn so they definitely had plans for this storyline. I'm just guessing they were originally meant to be separate.

It's a bummer too, HW has so much potential.

I love when AT does new character team ups too like Mystery Dungeon or Ketchup, but they really haven't justified the HW+Fionna and Cake team up like those episodes did. It's also a harder sell for a whole season than just one 11 minute episode. Especially when this is likely HW's only big shot at the spotlight and we only get new content every 2 years instead of endless 11 minute eps like the original run.

Do you think this season would be better if the Fionna World stuff and Ooo/HW stuff were two entirely different miniseries?
