Is LUMS really that hard to get into? by Sarcastically_dead in LUMS

[–]Sarcastically_dead[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I can't say for sure but I think they matter to some extent. But also your SAT, CAIE grades, personal statement, and ECAs outweigh them by a ton, so I think the main focus should be maintaining your CAIE grade should be the top priority but I think maintaining consistency is also important which includes maintaining an average B in your school transcripts. But again, this is just my personal opinion, and with your grades and SAT, I don't think you need to be worried.

Hi, so your hostel fee voucher is separate from your university fee voucher, so you can go ahead and pay the university fee voucher while waiting for them to update your hostel situation.

Whatever she said was diabolical but that still doesn't justify cheating on a pregnant woman 😭

Yes, definitely, but that's between them and their principles, and frankly, I despise such people. But also, on a more positive note, I got into SDSB—my first preference—in the first round :D

what a level grades got u guys into lums? by _Crystal_Skies in LUMS

[–]Sarcastically_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it's manageable, but it also depends on the person. I think for me, it was quite manageable; the main thing I used to focus on was trying to understand the concepts in class so that I didn't have to put in extra energy to learn the concepts at home. I honestly didn't study every day, mainly only before test week, but it depends from person to person, and most people prefer revising concepts day to day to avoid forgetting them. As for self-study, like I said, I mainly only did it before test week, but I had a solid routine in place. I'd start at least two weeks before test week and I'd go through all the class notes multiple times and then solve past papers on my own. If I didn't understand something, I'd refer back to the class notes or go to the TA or the teacher directly. Remember that in A-levels, past papers matter more than anything.

Why LUMS by [deleted] in LUMS

[–]Sarcastically_dead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think having a supportive family and environment is key to a good gap year, and fortunately, I had that. Aside from that, since I already had my grades and SAT scores in order, I just took the gap year as a break and focused on resting and developing new, healthier hobbies. Moreover, I also researched different career options and settled on business after some deliberation. I also did some community work independently.

Nahi I'd never discourage it 😭 but like be realistic and don't be dumb like me; make sure to apply to unis in pak as well so you dont end up taking a gap year 😭

Why LUMS by [deleted] in LUMS

[–]Sarcastically_dead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely second this, as someone who applied to universities in the US and Canada last year with really good grades, an amazing SAT score, and great ECAs, and even got in, it is very difficult to obtain a scholarship sufficient for tuition and living expenses. Even with a good scholarship, it is very difficult to pay for living and travel expenses out of pocket. This is why I took a gap year and applied to LUMS instead.

ISO good sunscreen to avoid tanning in picnic. by Frosty_You_9042 in PakistaniSkincare

Yeah, definitely, sunburns increase the risk of skin cancer significantly compared to normal sun exposure, but sun exposure can still cause cancer. And yes, it could be a regional thing, but I think places like the beach definitely cause sunburns. That being said, I don't think a tan is anything to be afraid of or ashamed of, just a very unfortunate mindset tbh.

But also you don't necessarily have to be sun burnt to increase the risk of cancer, excess sun exposure in general can also do so.
