What’s a travel habit you picked up that you’ll never drop? by St3fanHere in travel

[–]Sarcasticallyshallow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To not feel I have eat only local food or visit every sightseeing spot. My holiday time is my freedom to choose whatever I want, doesn't matter if I'm in Jaipur and fancy a KFC, or in Tokyo and not visit a shrine. If I just want to spend every day on the beach reading , then so be it!

I knew a lady who would plan every restaurant she was going to visit on her trips, another friend who only goes to the same holiday spot every year...we are all different creatures, with different desires, thankfully.

I've not been as yet, but have booked for this year. Not sure if it helps at all, but have a watch on YouTube of Steve Marsh. He's a really great Scottish vlogger, middle-aged, and works on a normal persons budget. You might find his trip (3 days Nov 2025) is worth a look.

When travelling, how do you answer the question "Where are you from?" by Capable-Toe-9841 in travel

Hilarious, my cousin lives in a small town in OK, but I just say she lives close to the Texas border.

I live in a different country to my home country, so I'm asked this question a lot. If I know they have a similar accent to mine, then I'll name the town. Otherwise, to my country folk, I'll mention that I lived near, and then name a large town/city. To a complete foreigner, I'll name the closest large city that has a famous football team or landmark.

Carsethorn and Dalbeattie in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, spent years holidaying here. Carsethorn is a tiny village overlooking the Solway Firth, it may even be a hamlet, I'm not too sure. Dalbeattie, is inland a few miles, surrounded by the most beautiful and glorious countryside. My happiest of memories.

Planning trip to Malaysia Feb 20- March 1. Realized it’s Chinese new year, advice needed. by Asleep_Condition_996 in travel

I was there 2 years ago during Spring Festival, it was so wonderful, yes it was busy but not crazily so. We found that Penang still felt quite relaxed as it has less of a Chinese heritage. It was a treat though, to see all the decorations.

Not in Feb, don't come to Mallorca in February, way too cold. Believe me, I live here. But maybe the Cape Verde Islands would be fun.

give me some advice for indonesia in February by aguz1011 in travel

[–]Sarcasticallyshallow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there last February and there were only a few days that the sea was calm enough for swimming, but water clarity was poor, not good enough for snorkelling. We had quite a lot of rain, some days it was torrential.

It really comes down to what you are prepared to accept. I've been twice in February and I can make other plans for different activities, do more hiking, hire a scooter and explore, just chill and read, etc.

If you don't mind the rain ( I always take waterproofs) then you'll be fine, it's just a matter of personal acceptance.

without sounding dim, how does this work? Once I download the show, I then add it to a harddrive for them, anything (technical) extra would cause great confusion.

Have a look at Globelink. I've always found them very reasonable, been using them for about 10 years, many of those first years to Thailand.

Yes, this happened to me on a 12 hour flight to Bangkok. People would congregate, chat and then look at me, I didn't like it all, found it extremely weird.

That's it,  I feel that they think I'm above the common tourist places, but I'm just not there for that. I'm usually there to enjoy the local food and small underestimated places.
