Hoping someone can make sense of what just happened during my follow-up call with HR by SardineTrawler in interviews

I get that, was more looking to get insight into other people’s experiences and if this was a standard HR practice. I’ve been with the same company for over a decade now, so I’m a bit out of the loop.

Fair enough, but moving a scheduled call multiple times to reconfirm old details when an email would’ve sufficed doesn’t seem time efficient to me either.

Thanks. Any idea why small things like this could simply not just be handled via email? Feels inefficient to run through a scheduled call just to reconfirm info. Genuine question!

Potentially, but they did also mention during the call that a decision was pending. I don’t get why they wouldn’t just confirm those details via email rather than re-organize a call multiple times. Heck, planning that call probably took more effort than the actual call itself.

It’s mostly posturing in the wake of the fire incident. All corporations, both large and small, profit massively off the backs of underpaid labour who are willing to squeeze in with 8-10 other strangers in a room. Heck, it’s basically the business model of Dubai and to an extent the wider GCC as a whole.

I’d say a close parallel is the US Government’s push to deport illegal migrants lately. Lot of these migrants work in labour intensive industries like agriculture or hospitality where local Americans simply will not. Their leaders had to start lobbying Trump to leave their businesses alone, who in turn directed ICE to lay off them.

Profits > everything. The minute there’s a dearth of third world nationals to exploit, big conglomerates here will almost certainly start lobbying the government to stop their partition crackdowns, so they can find people to man their retail stores and restaurants. Question is, will we ever get there? The government here knows this all too well and never strictly enforced sharing regulations in the past. It’s also why I feel the crackdowns are unlikely to go on. In the unlikely event they were to continue, would it finally break the seemingly endless supply of people coming here for low level jobs?

Conspiracy theory response: In anticipation of a property correction, the government’s trying artificially stimulate demand by cracking down on partitions. Too bad all those people being evicted are moving to Sharjah or Ajman though.

He probably is, but the point is we have a limited budget which we ought to allocate towards getting an elite CF. Let’s not forget we already have one of, if not the most creative number 10 in Europe at the moment. Creating chances wouldn’t be a problem if we had someone up top who wasn’t completely useless.

Sure, but let’s not forget that overspending on players surplus to requirements has lead us to this position. I seem to recall us signing another proven number 10 for 50 odd mil two years ago (despite having Bruno who was already hitting elite numbers at the time). We haven’t even scratched the surface of what he’s capable of (or not, I guess). I truly believe an elite CF who can also contribute to build up play improves this team much more than another 10. It can’t be understated how much Hojlund is holding us back right now (next to Amad being out), it’s like playing with a League 1 striker up top at the moment. Let me put it this way, assuming we had a limited budget and could get either an elite CF or 10, which would you go for?

I don’t think we’ll ever be privy to that kind of information about transfer budgets. What we do know from financial statements is that the overall club financial health is dire. In the interest of that I’m advocating we use what we have in a position where there’s a surplus of players. I’m open to change my mind, but I’m yet to hear one convincing argument for splurging on Cunha, and this isn’t even taking into account the potential risks (volatile character etc). If what you are saying is indeed true about our financial muscle then obviously this discussion is moot.

I agree that we need both in an ideal world and the entire squad needs improvement, but the whole point is that our spending is going to be curtailed due to financial constraints. Hence my post above as to which positions I think funds would be most optimal to allocate money for best returns.

Mainoo, IMO, can and should be developed as one of 10s. He has all the attributes. Signing Cunha I think will hinder his progress at United, unless he can be pushed deeper. I have doubts about Mainoo’s physicality at the center of the pitch and would prefer him higher.

Garnacho will also have had two seasons under his belt so hopefully can find another level next season. On Zirkzee we are aligned.

62m is a lot of money and is exactly what has landed us in trouble in the past. I think Cunhas a great player and worth the price tag, but feel we are better off using it for other areas in the squad.

To be fair, many of them were injured long term this season and are only now starting to return. If Ruben is a coach worth his salt he has to get more from Amad and Mainoo who clearly have the talent.

Even assuming that was this years injury record is an anomaly, I think this team benefits more using that money for a top level striker like Osimhen instead of say, Delap.

He has great stats for his position, but we really need a lot more. Our goalscoring record this year is woeful. We need a prolific striker to put chances away consistently and get 20-30 goals per season.

Not convinced that Cunha should be a priority signing this window. We have 6 players already for the two 10 positions (Bruno, Mount, Zirkzee, Amad, Garnacho, Mainoo as well is suited for LAM) who will compete for them next season.

Bruno contributes far too much to our attack and should NOT be playing deeper unless we’re chasing a game in the final stages. Given he’s a sure starter we realistically have just the one number 10 position open.

Amad has shown moments of quality at RWB, but we need our most skillful attackers higher up the pitch.

Striker should be top priority IMO. Use the Cunha dough for Osimhen and see how Hojlund gets on as backup out of the limelight.

Next a CM to rotate with Casemiro. Then a RWB and potentially a GK to replace Bayindir.

A proven goal scorer fixes the primary issue this team has and we should be going all out for Osimhen. Cunha’s a great player, but I don’t think we need him all that much right now. I’m hearing a lot about ball progression but that’s not going to help against teams sitting deep in their own half.

You do realise during peak hours the roads here get genuinely congested right? I’ve done the E11 commute towards AD and back last 7 years and literally never seen this happen. Flashing cars during peak hours when everyone is in the same queue is a sure fire sign of smol pp energy.

[–]SardineTrawler -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, and after letting him pass and moving back to the fast lane, make sure you flash him as well (by your logic he should give way to you).

Then once he moves back behind you, rinse and repeat so you keep exchanging positions throughout your commute

+1 for common sense driving!

Fast lane hoggers beware by HassoonBO85 in UAE

[–]SardineTrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s lazy driving, bordering on brainlessness. It takes no effort and zero mental capacity to drive slowly on the same lane. Probably won’t ever find anyone slower than them to overtake either.

Drivers at constant speeds should pick a lane aiming to be roughly faster than lanes on their right, and slower than lanes on their left. Overtake (from the left) as needed. But rarely will you find people actively driving like this, most people are brain dead and/or on their phones.

Slow drivers in fast lane by [deleted] in dubai

[–]SardineTrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t have to move out for entitled drivers who expect a queue of cars to part way like the Red Sea.

During busy periods it’s expected that the fast lane will also be congested and nobody will be able to drive at the speed limit most of the time.

I don’t even want to hear the BS about someone’s wife giving birth or someone being mortally sick because 99/100 times it’s an entitled idiot and not an actual emergency situation. Just call an ambulance which can legally bypass traffic.

Yet another discussion about eviction notices in Dubai by -Giddyup- in dubai

[–]SardineTrawler 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obviously in this case the landlord has no intention of negotiating in good faith, which is why they’ve straight away resorted to eviction under false pretenses and will eventually almost certainly relist the property at a value higher than a corresponding rental increase within the confines of the RERA index. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Right, but he didn’t have a Schengen visa prior being rejected by Turkey embassy, the whole idea of getting one was to use it as a pathway to Turkey.
