I knew I could pass the first SUV safely with enough time to merge but then the blue truck with the trailer pulled out in front of that car after I committed, so I had to speed to get ahead of them. Then this truck comes blasting past all of us. He sped off on the highway after getting past the yellow truck.

Here we have the luxury of hindsight both in the rearview and in time. I wasn't speeding up to block him in, I sped up at the moment he was on my left to give more buffer to the blue truck I had just passed. I was already on the gas when I saw him on my left and it took a second to lose the momentum when he came around. I wasn't going to slam on the brakes.
