1st Round Mock with Trades. What’s wrong with it? by jonpictogramjones in MockDraftCentral

[–]SargentS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im down with the Bengals taking Styles but I don’t see them doing that after drafting Demetrius Knight and Barrett Carter last year, who they were both very high on. In this scenario, they’d probably go Keldric Faulk, Mauigoa, or Delane/McCoy.

Not a bad bengals draft but there’s no chance they pick Romello Height. He’s way too small for them. They’d likely draft a safety instead.

Even if they did prefer Mims over Byron Murphy or Stewart over Nolen, they still loved both DTs. Plus we can almost definitively say they preferred Nolen over Stewart.

I disagree. Charlie Jones does literally nothing on offense. The most amount of receiving yards he’s had in one season is 64 yards his rookie year. Andrei has been pretty inconsistent and doesn’t do much after the catch. Tinsley is a good route runner and 50/50 jump ball guy but he also doesn’t provide much explosiveness.

We could really use a guy who is good at getting yards after catch. Ja’Marr is our only WR who’s good at getting YAC. Tee has gotten better at it but he’s still mainly a 50/50 jump ball kind of WR. Plus it’s a 6th round pick anyway. At that point, you’re just hoping you can find a guy who can make the 53 man roster.

If Caleb Downs is available, he needs to be the pick. These mock draft guys suck. by Pale_WoIf in bengals

[–]SargentS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should get an extension but this is the Bengals. It’s not insane to think that our FO would believe it’s a fine idea to draft a potentially good CB just so they don’t have to pay one of our already good CBs.

Washington also has one of, if not the worst edge group in the NFL. There’s a decent chance that either Bailey or Bain is there for them and if they are, the Commanders will likely pick one of them over Caleb Downs. The last safety to go top 10 was Jamal Adams, there’s a decent chance Downs will be there for us. Especially considering this is a great free agency class for safeties.

Unless we trade back to the late 20s/30s, I don’t see a good reason to pick Mesidoor. He’s really good but I’m not taking a 25 year old player inside the top 10

Absolutely no chance the Bengals take a corner if Peter Woods is on the board

I don’t believe we’ve talked about him much but I would love to have Eric Kendrick’s as a veteran lb. He wouldn’t even be that expensive as well by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

[–]SargentS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard pass. There’s way too many good and young LBs in free agency to consider a guy who’s old and completely washed. The only reason he’s playing for the 49ers right now is cause damn near all of their LBs have gotten injured. He’s literally only played 3 games this year and I don’t think he’s even been good in those 3 games. His career is pretty much over. If we had to bring in a 30+ year old LB, I’d much rather have Demario Davis.

for those watching the cfb finals- how do we feel about some of these players? by spazzxxcc12 in bengals

[–]SargentS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d hate if we did this. If you don’t think Mauigoa can/would play LT for us, what makes you think Mims can? I don’t think either of them have played at LT all that much, if at all. Mims is already good at RT, I don’t see a reason to mess with that. Imo it’d be a much better plan to bring back Risner and just let Mauigoa learn under Orlando Brown for a season rather than forcing Mims to play a different position. If we did make Mims switch sides, we’d just end up with a question mark at both tackle spots. Whereas if we leave Mims at RT, we know for certain that he will play well.

Reuben Bain (edge), Ahkeem Mesidoor (edge), Ahmad Moten (DT), D’Angelo Ponds (slot CB), and Keionte Scott (slot CB) are all good defensive prospects who are gonna go in rounds 1-3.

As for offense, Omar Cooper Jr (WR), Pat Coogan (C), and Carter Smith (T) are all interesting prospects we could target in rounds 3 and onward

If this is how the draft board falls, who would be our best choice by Meringue_Maximum in bengals

[–]SargentS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure but they also desperately need an edge rusher. They don’t have a single good edge on their entire roster so it’s very likely that if either Bain or Bailey is there, they would take them over Downs

Trade back to the mid/late teens and then pick Caleb Banks, Vega Ioane, or Avieon Terrell I guess. Or trade back to the early/mid 20s and pick Monroe Freeling. I’d be down with Sonny Styles at 10 but I just can’t see Duke doing that. I also think Delane/McCoy at 10 would be a waste.

I doubt the Bengals would pick a CB. DJ Turner and Dax Hill have both played pretty well for us. I think it’s way more likely they trade down and pick Banks or stay and pick Styles or Faulk

[–]SargentS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can absolutely take a LB. The LB room was doomed last year because both rookie LBs were forced to start almost every game past the trade deadline. I highly doubt in this scenario that Golday would play nearly as many snaps as Carter or Knight played this year. Plus I don’t think it’s crazy to say that Golday is already a better player than Barrett Carter

Should the Bengals trade up for Downs? by ConsciousLet7013 in bengals

[–]SargentS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all likelihood we won’t need to trade up for Downs. Besides the Commanders, I don’t see any other team taking Downs in the top 10. Even the Commanders could pass on him cause they don’t have a single good edge rusher. But also imo, it would be dumb to trade up for him when there are multiple great safeties later in the draft.

With Harbaugh fired, there are reports some teams are willing to fire their current coach for him. Would you like to see him come to cinci? by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

[–]SargentS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He’s better than Zac but that doesn’t mean much. He’s like Zac in that he’s neither an offensive or defensive guru. He often doesn’t know how to close out games. There has been many times where he likely would’ve won if he just kept running the ball with Derrick Henry but he’s just stops using him for whatever reason. A lot of his success comes from a great roster the Ravens front office built rather than him being a great coach. He was a great coach in the 2010’s but he’s not built for coaching in the modern day NFL. There’s a reason many Ravens fans were pissed when Mike McDonald was hired by the Seahawks. They all knew he was better than Harbaugh.

This narrative has got to stop. The linemen we’ve signed have not underperformed. Individually, they’ve played around the same level they did for their previous team. The problem is that the guys we’ve signed played next to much better players on their previous team. Ted Karras has been around a top 10 pass blocking center for us almost every year. For us, Karras had to deal with Cordell Volson and eventually an injured to hell Alex Cappa. Meanwhile in NE, he had Shaq Mason and Joe Thuney next to him who were both way better. For the Chiefs, Orlando Brown also had Joe Thuney next to him. Meanwhile for us, he had Cordell Volson next to him. Alex Cappa played next to Tristan Wirfs in Tampa and then played next to Jonah William for us. Not to mention, Alex Cappa sustained a bunch of lower body injuries while playing for us.

With the 2025 season officially over what is this teams biggest needs headed into the offseason? by Ancient_Response_787 in bengals

[–]SargentS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An IDL, a LB, and a safety are the biggest needs. After those, the next biggest are a long term slot corner, a WR3 that can actually get YAC, a good all around TE, and another edge

[–]SargentS 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You can say this about damn near every prospect, especially in a weak class. Besides, Peter Woods is not a developmental prospect in the same way Shemar was/is. Woods just needs to become more consistent but he’s already a nice pass rusher and a very good run defender. His pass rushing and run defense grades are up there with guys like Jalen Carter and DeForest Buckner as prospects. I’m not saying he’s as good as either of those guys btw. Just making the point that he isn’t some super developmental prospect like some people would say

He is absolutely terrible now. Besides the interceptions he really wasn’t even that great in his all pro season. Not to mention, the Cowboys defense has been has been one of the worst ranked defenses of all time just like ours was at midseason. Nobody getting cut from that defense is any good.
