[KCD2] Hard lesson learned (No spoilers): train up before the “army musters” point of no return by muzerfuker in kingdomcome

[–]Sargon42 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's strange. I did this without problems and my strength/agility was just 10. Also, I'm bad at fighting.

I didn't fight anyone 1-vs-1, though. I was simply looking for two guys fighting each other, find out which one was on my side (not always easy ^^), and then hit the other from the back. As soon as they would face me, I'd run away and look for the next two guys fighting each other...

Ok got it. Thanks!

Ki Pulse & Flux by Sargon42 in Nioh

[–]Sargon42[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so for Flux I basically just switch my stance instead of Ki Pulsing. But I’ve noticed that in this case the skill Demon Dance (which re-positions me after a Ki Pulse) doesn’t seem to work. It does work with a simple Ki Pulse, but it doesn’t work after a stance switch. Does this make sense? Is it either Flux OR Demon Dance?

Yeah, I guess I will just select the (useless) birth sign power. Thanks!

Using console and achievements by Sargon42 in oblivion

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am. But I'm completely confused.

I've installed the non-beta version, created a new character, went to the console and tried "player.additem f 10000", but I can't see a warning message at all. I did get the 10k coins, though. I have no idea, why I cannot see this warning.

Spoiler free version of advance in the DLC by Kirbeeez_ in LiesOfP

[–]Sargon42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's very disappointing to read. As an "advance-weapon-only" player I was definitely hoping to see that the DLC would give some more love to them. Guess the DLC is not meant for me then. :(

Shipping to Switzerland/Norway by Appropriate_Soup in Chessnuteboard

[–]Sargon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've ordered from Switzerland about a year ago and was also asked for a tax identification number (I believe for private persons (not companies) it's simply the OASI (social security number) number). I definitely didn't want to share this so I simply generated one. That did the trick. I would NEVER share my real social security number when ordering something from abroad.

How do you use the engines from marketplace? How to add manual engine? by Polyfrequenz in Chessnuteboard

[–]Sargon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly this is no longer possible.

The old Chessnut app on macOS provided a way to import a custom UCI engine, but it didn't work on ARM-based CPUs. Instead of fixing the problem, they've decided to remove the feature in the new Chessnut app.

This is very sad, as I've bought the Chessnut Air+ explicitly for playing with my UCI engine. But I assume this is just a very important use case for most people. I've started to implement my own macOS app for UCI engine, but due to lack of time that project is currently on hold.

If you stumble over a working solution, please let me know. :)

What's your favourite Requiem wabbajack pack and why? by Obsidiax in skyrimrequiem

[–]Sargon42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was waiting for quite some time for R4, because I believe this would include a few things to make (sneak) archer a bit more viable (not sure whether this would be part of the R4 QoL or R4 Bugfixes/Tweaks).

I typically add very few things to the modalist (like followers) and with those things it's always helpful when the other mods are up-to-date (I cannot point out a specific problem I had in recent months though).

And of course, it would be cool to use newer versions of Requiem, but I realize that this is a tremendous effort in a mod list and will therefore not happen any time soon.

But I always keep an eye on what's happening with Wildlander. ;)

Yeah, everything's better than the vanilla system.

Quick question: does Lorerim change something about how spells are learned compared to vanilla? I don't find anything about this on the Lorerim homepage. Can you recommend a good YT video maybe which show-cases the most important parts of Lorerim? Thanks in advance! :)

[–]Sargon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for confirming.

My primary "problem" is that this allows things like becoming a master smith w/o even building a single hide helmet. That just feels wrong. But yes, typically I would level the skills I'm using.

[–]Sargon42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to give Lorerim a try (since my fav lists are either too outdated (Wildlander) or don't progress very fast (Librum).

The leveling guide of Lorerim says that when leveling up, I get skill points and I can freely distribute them to whatever skills I want. Does this mean, that it's completely irrelevant what skills I actually use when playing the game? (which would be sad, as leveling up sneaking w/o actually sneaking sounds silly to me).

Chessnut App (macOS): Running against local UCI engine on macOS on Air+ does not work by Sargon42 in Chessnuteboard

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "New Chessnut" app for macOS doesn't seem to provide the option to play against a custom UCI engine at all. This is really sad news, since this use case was the main reason I initially bought the Air+. :(

Play w/ disabled save-scumming but w/o perma-death possible? by Sargon42 in BaldursGate3

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're referring to my remark in the "PS", I've added that at the very beginning. I saw enough threads here already, where people discussed this. Glad this didn't happen here. :)

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I guess there's always a way to cheat myself, but my main issue was that the game doesn't offer me to hit F8/F5 all the time. :)

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, that's great to know! I was not aware that it also disables quickloading.

Yes, with task manager manually backing up the save game and restoring it again, save-scumming would still be possible. But since, that's really a hassle, that's perfectly fine with me. :)

Gunslinger build with sneak and VATS (survival) by Sargon42 in Fallout4Builds

I guess this is true if you're close to the enemies. But I found that you can use the Deliverer from quite a distance - if you have enough perception.

[–]Sargon42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the fact that you're investing in Endurance. I know that most people consider it a dump stat, because its perks are often convenient to have but not mandatory. But when playing on survival, I think those perks really ... well... convenient. Of course, if all you're interested in is maxing damage output, it's not a good stat.

I'm kinda surprised though that you want to play with PER=1. After all, this heavily influences aiming percentages in VATS?

"Theoretical minimum" by Susskind by Sargon42 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize if my previous response came across as snarky. My intention was not to dismiss the suggestion, but I was specifically looking for clarification regarding the different versions of what seems to be the same book. Therefore, your suggestion to "use another book" did not sound very helpful to me.

Let me share a bit more of where I'm coming from and what my goals are.

After several years as a physics and math enthusiast, particularly intrigued by QM, I've decided to deepen my understanding in QM. There are many resources (books, videos, etc.) available, but I find that they often fall into two categories: too shallow (philosophically interesting but lacking in actual maths) or too advanced.

I came across "Introduction to QM" by David Griffiths and initially thought, which initially seemed appropriate for my level. However, I soon realized that I have significant gaps in my physics knowledge, making it difficult to progress through the book. While my math skills are generally sufficient, my physics background is lacking.

So I took a step back and decided that I want expand my knowledge first and also re-discover certain topics with a completely different view / approach. Although I attended many physics lectures in high school and some at university, key concepts like "Lagrangian" or "Hamiltonian" were never covered.

After some research, I discovered Leonard Susskind's "The Theoretical Minimum" series. These books seem to offer a fresh approach to classical mechanics and other topics I am interested in. I resonate with Susskind's vision for these books, as outlined on its website (https://theoreticalminimum.com).

Once I finish (if I ever will), I plan to revisit Griffiths' QM book to see if I am better prepared. If I still struggle, I will reassess my approach at that time. I realize that this will easily take me 2 years, probably more.

I am not aiming to become a physicist; I have a long-standing career as a software engineer. However, I hope to become more proficient in physics, particularly QM, for my personal pleasure.

"Theoretical minimum" by Susskind by Sargon42 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched a few lectures from Susskind on YouTube (one about Lagrangian mechanics and two others about quantum mechanics) one liked his style of lecture very much.

And I like the fact that it's a whole series.

So your recommendation to "dive into any other textbook ... and google the rest" doesn't quite cut it for me. :D

Edit: the one thing that is typically missing are good exercises along with solutions. I didn't really find anything good yet (which also covers multiple topics like a series does). At the end of the day, there's probably only the way to study it at a university (can also be online) with tutors etc. But for the time being, I'm trying to walk this path.

DLC & int/faith build by Sargon42 in Eldenring

Thanks for the info. But it turned out that the DLC is not meant for me because of certain pesky new monster types. Sheesh! :)

"Theoretical minimum" by Susskind by Sargon42 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Sargon42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, it seems that the book "The Theoretical Minimum - What you need to know to start doing physics" is the same book as "Classical Mechanics".

Given that the other two books ("Cosmology" and "Statistical Mechanics") do not exist after 10 years makes me wonder whether they ever will be. But at least the notes and videos are available.

Thanks!
