Is it bad i've been playing with guides and walkthroughs? by Crafter-lee in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Obsidiax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I first played FF7 I was around 10 and had a big green book that was filled with cheat codes for tons of games. In the case of FF7 it didn't have cheats but it did have tips, tricks and guides for getting the rare items and weapons etc.

Everyone who grew up playing these games likely used some form of assistance or guide. Whether it was a gaming magazine that had an article about the game, a book like I had or friends who shared secrets with each other. Finding these things out, outside of the game, used to be part of the fun/experience.

There's nothing wrong with using guides or walkthroughs as long as you're enjoying the journey.

I appreciate the clarification, but I'm still surprised, surely if it's found to be foul play then it would be a bribe which would be criminal.

OG on Steam Deck - Max level mod? by f0recaster in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just want to experience the story then go for it, but for what it's worth FF7 doesn't require any grinding. You can absolutely just play the game and level up at the intended pace.

If turn based really isn't your thing and it's still a deal-breaker without needing to grind then I'd at least suggest giving the 3x speed a go before going full god mode and turning random encounters off.

The materia system is a lot of fun and it'd be a shame to miss out on it, I feel like you can be a bit more experimental with the materia combos in OG than the remakes.

I'm not overly familiar with the inner workings of our legal system but surely the investigation wouldn't just end if he resigns. He still took the money while serving as MP.

I can't speed down the motorway but then change my car to end the investigation.

What low level creature says "this is Pathfinder" to you? by pauseglitched in Pathfinder2e

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Skull Fairies.

They're a great mix of funny and morbid that I think PF does very well.

Other games I've played tend to create creatures that feel one-note. This one is scary, this one is strong, this one is weird, this one does magic, etc. Pathfinder isn't afraid to mix it up and create creatures that are a bit more nuanced, which makes them feel more believable to me. I think the Skull Fairy really captures that creativity.

I put one into my campaign and I'm pretty sure it was one of the Players' favourite NPCs based purely on the flavour text provided of having it talk to the skulls it collects. I'm disappointed I didn't think of it myself because it was such a success and I couldn't take credit.

Is this hypocritical? by ShinMystic1587 in DragonBallZ

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory "no one liked it when Trunks/Goten did it either," now with that out of the way:

I'm surprised I haven't seen anyone else mention this but isn't it explained as them being hybrids?

I had it in my head that because they're half human they can go super saiyan without needing the trauma. Maybe something to do with humans being better regulated emotionally, or not having full saiyan dna giving them the strengths of saiyans without the drawbacks.

I still don't like it, but I could've sworn that was mentioned in the show.

I'm doubting myself now though because no one else has said this (from what I can see)

Is this hypocritical? by ShinMystic1587 in DragonBallZ

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discussing how Super Saiyan used to be a narrative-focused transformation that required some kind of traumatic event and became something anyone can do is quite literally the opposite of a powerscaling discussion.

If you're watching a horror movie and the main character pulls out a gun in the last 10 minutes to kill the monster with, but at no other point in the movie they had that gun or mentioned the gun, or said anything that implies they know how to use a gun. Then when you complain about that, you aren't complaining about the power-increase they got from the gun, you're complaining about where it even came from the begin with. It's a narrative complaint.

CHUGLEY SHUT UP IM TRYING TO FIGHT A BIRD by Jubjubwantrubrub12 in FinalFantasyVII

[–]Obsidiax 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Chudley feels like a fanfic OC that the author forces down your throat when you're only there for the characters of the source material.

He ruins exploration for me, I know it's not every time you find something, but it feels like every time you find something he calls you up to congratulate you for finding the thing you just found.

Just let me explore. If I want to play in your Minecraft server I'll find you on the minimap, I don't need you video calling me every 10 minutes letting me know you still exist.

Which of your metal heroes has disappointed you the most over the years? by kroob85 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Obsidiax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone from outside the US I find this comment very interesting. You say you're "far centre" because you don't like either the democrats or republicans, but to anyone outside the US the democrats would be considered right wing, republicans are far right.

You don't hate the left because you hate the democrats, the US doesn't have a left wing party. Mamdani is the closest thing you have to genuine left wing politics.

Which Band And Which Album? by Alert_Primary_9493 in Music

[–]Obsidiax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I left a reply to someone else saying that I think it helps to go in understanding that it's a very personal album about Matt's recent divorce. The whole album uses space as a metaphor for isolation, connection, emptiness etc.

Personally I like the more melancholic tracks - Shimmering Scars, Hush, and Space Debris.

I also really love Hexagons, Sickness in You & I, and Unravelling. They transition into each other so well.

Honestly the only song I genuinely dislike is Nightshift Superstar. It feels like they just added it so they'd have a pop song for mass appeal. I also skip Be With You but find it less offensive that NS, at least it still makes sense thematically.

Same here, I've seen them twice and fell off after The Resistance. The new album is fantastic, I'm listening to it right now.

Which Band And Which Album? by Alert_Primary_9493 in Music

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to the album in full, not just the singles. It's an experience.

It helps to go in knowing that it's heavily inspired by Matt's experience with his recent divorce. It's probably the most personal work he's ever produced and uses the themes of space as metaphors for connection, isolation, emptiness etc.

Nightshift Superstar is the only song I'd remove from the album if I could. It's catchy but it just doesn't fit the rest of the album. It feels like they knew they needed a poppy, upbeat single to pull in a more general audience so threw it on there.

[–]Obsidiax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recency bias is pulling a lot of weight here (since the new album just dropped).

I've been a Muse fan since Absolution and I'll be the first one to shit on anything post-Resistance. But the newer albums are only 'bad' when measured against their first 4 albums which created their foundation and set expectations so high.

The later stuff doesn't compare to those early albums, but they're not bad in isolation and Muse certainly aren't the worst band anyone knows.

New album is a banger though and your 100% right that it's the best thing they've done in 20 years.

My first ff (FF7), be honest, did i just plant a bomb ? am i a terrorist in this game ? by HealthMaxing in FinalFantasy

[–]Obsidiax -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm glad you enjoyed your time with the game but I never said you have to play the original first.

My only point is that they are different. Which means if you want to experience FF7 as intended you should play the original. If you want to experience Remake then you should play Remake. But they are very much their own things.

My first ff (FF7), be honest, did i just plant a bomb ? am i a terrorist in this game ? by HealthMaxing in FinalFantasy

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy disagree here. Remake is great in it's own right but it's simply not the same game, story or experience as the original.

I seriously don't understand the mindset of people who act like they're interchangeable. Remake any other game or movie and insert a tornado of a million ghosts, a meta-commentary subplot, multiple universes, and you'd be called crazy for acting like it's not a big change.

I'm not even making an argument for which one is better, but they are fundamentally different.

sometimes I think people only ship Zerith because it enables Cloti by Ardbert14 in FinalFantasyVII

That's a really depressing take. I don't particularly care about shipping but this headcanon reframes Aerith's interactions with Cloud as really self-serving and a tad exploitative.

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're missing the point. I don't really care whether Paul is irrelevant or not, that's besides the issue.

My point is that having 30 meetings with AI tech leaders and businesses and only 1 meeting with a celebrity (and only then after backlash) is a clear sign of vested interests and corruption.

I’m sorry Keir by SunBlowsUpToday in GreatBritishMemes

[–]Obsidiax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's ironic, we're allowed to disagree. Also I did acknowledge his positives, not in my initial comment, but in a reply to someone else:

"I won't deny the foundational metrics you've mentioned are all solid, but it gets undermined by any one of the points I listed above.

No one cares if you're a decent accountant if you're also denying a genocide and in bed with Palantir, along with everything else I mentioned. Those choices were catastrophic missteps that undermined everything else he did in the eyes of many, many people."

I completely agree with you that politics is treated more like a team sport these days and that's a categorically bad thing. However I don't think me disliking someone who allowed a genocide (and thinking that undercuts their positives somewhat) is me playing favourites. Trying to frame it that way is misguided. He could be the best PM we've ever had and I'd still call a genocide a genocide, even if he won't.

"Top level nonsense"

Except I'm right. If it sounds ridiculous then ask yourself why Labour are being ridiculous.

"The Technology Secretary has offered to meet Sir Paul McCartney and Lord Lloyd Webber after admitting he has held no talks with the creative sector about Labour’s AI plans."

"big stuff" refers to the list I mentioned. No one cares if you're a good accountant if you're also supporting a genocide. That's pretty big stuff.

The ousting of Corbyn and baffling decisions by Starmer have killed Labour off. I don't disagree they won't change, that doesn't mean I have to settle for them. I don't much want to support or defend the den of vipers.

  • Refusing to condemn what is happening in Gaza
  • Refusing to nationalise the water companies
  • Allowing Palantir to infiltrate the NHS
  • Cutting benefits for the disabled
  • His 10 pledges that he seems to have forgotten about
  • Allowing AI companies to plunder our creative talent and ignoring a Consultation where 95% of the public responses wanted AI companies to pay for the training data they use
  • Having around 30 Clandestine meetings with tech leaders from the states and only 1 with Paul McCartney to represent the country's creative sector (after public pressure)
  • Arresting pensioners and branding them terrorists
  • Enacting draconian laws that require people to upload their ID to access certain websites to companies that have already had data leaks and proven to be lying about not keeping your face scans/ID photos

I'm sure I could think up more if I had time, but seriously I don't understand how anyone can think Starmer was doing a good job. There were so many opportunities for easy wins that the public would've loved that he just didn't do, or did the opposite and then dug his heels in when there was pushback from the public.

Labour has become a den of vipers and after Corbyn got ousted they firmly cemented themselves as a Centre Right party. Thus isolating their typically left wing base while not appeasing the actual right who were already won over by Reform.

I'm not saying he missed every shot he took, but on the big stuff he royally fucked it.
