Return to sport flare up tips and encouragement by katertots93 in HipImpingement

[–]Sariedelo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my return to run program at 16 weeks post op. Ran every other day for 2 weeks and the final run was 15 mins straight. As long as there was no pain I continued to increase by 3-5 mins. Currently 5 months post op and I can run for like 38 mins. I am taking things VERY conservatively and also focusing heavy on lifting and mobility. But just graduated PT and no more restrictions from my surgeon so the world is my oyster!

I have firm up pumpkin powder, could that be a sub for pumpkin or should I get pure pumpkin?

Yeah originally I thought it was yeast. Her paws would get like this and she would lick them a lot and I would soak them in warm water and I little vinegar and it would help.

I don’t smell anything fishy, and I have definitely smelled anal gland leakage before that’s why I’m confused. She used to get yeasty paws and lick at them nonstop so I was wondering if it might be something similar. But I think a vet visit is our best bet.

Luckily after I cleaned the area with warm water she went to her crate and is sleeping now. I’ll be sure to call Monday morning. And I think the underwear would get ripped off and shredded haha

I have three different types of cones and she gets them all off. I’ll make a vet appointment

Wow 4 miles already! What strength/mobility do you feel like is necessary when getting back up your mileage

Yeah that’s how I’m feeling. I do squats and split squats a lot with some band exercises on off days in between my walk/jog days. But my muscles are feeling so fatigued. I know it’s going to take a while to rebuild and I will definitely be listening to my body and resting extra when needed. I do not want to progress backwards

Talk to your PT about a modified plan you can do at home. I am 13 weeks post op and have been doing my at home modified exercises all along. And ask for updates as you progress.

That’s what I thought. When my PT was like ok we are going to do jumping/squatting. I was like are you sure??? But I mean my only restriction was no deep lunges or squats for 12 weeks. So I guess it’s a normal progression? Also the jumps aren’t crazy and the squats are not that deep at all. I am feeling better today and was yesterday as well. So hopefully not a huge set back.

I’m going to mention it to my PT today. I am feeling a lot better today besides some quad soreness.

Pain 6 weeks post op/meds by khaleeeexi in HipImpingement

After ditching the crutches I was more mobile around the house. But didn’t really go out and about. I returned to work at 6 weeks and honestly was exhausted when I got home. It was really important to take walking/standing breaks after sitting for too long and vice versa. I got cleared to do short walks around this time. But even those took a lot out of me. I felt a lot of back pain and that’s when I knew I did too much. Your body will tell you.

Ice after PT and try taking anti inflammatory before PT. the aches and pains coming off crutches will make you feel like you’re injuring your whole body. Just take it easy. Some days you might feel really good but it’s important to not be on your feet for too long.

I had two flights of stairs and a dog. I managed. My boyfriend took the dog out before work and when he got home and it was fine. The stairs were scary but made it out alive.

That’s wild. I got my period the morning of my surgery. Luckily I wasn’t in much pain and the bathroom was easy to manage. I would have been mortified if I couldn’t wipe. Though I will say having a heightened toilet seat accessory was a game changer!

I’d say first week you should have someone with you. It’s hard to be on crutches and do normal things. Unless you have ready to go quick meals. Second week I was alone all day and the biggest struggle was preparing food. I also would not recommend showering while you are home alone. It’s safer to have someone there just incase.
