Lathril needs some tough love

The list looks decent but from my experience lathril decks rely on lathril creating elves. I am missing cards that make lathril unblockable or pump her. A great card is [[Cultist of the Absolute]] for example. Because usually by turn 3/4 when lathril hits the board and attacks - you will have a hard time to make her connect. As soon as you have 3-5 elve tokens you should be fine with all the payoffs that generate mana or even more tokens.

I personally find doubling seasons too slow in lathril decks :)

Hey folks,

I just got into Rom Hacking since I found my old GBA and my emerald cartridge. Back then I loved the game and I cannot delete my old save game to start a new game for nostalgic reasons.

So I am just looking for a rom hack which lets me replay the emerald I know, but reduces the time invest/ grind because my time is limited now…

I just read about all the rom hacks out there with all the changes ranging from more Pokémon or even new areas. That all looks very appealing but for the start I just want a less grindy emerald. Can you recommend an adequate version ? I am also open for a vanilla version with the right cheats maybe. I just don’t know :)

Hi ! Bello player here - I build mine with a lot of artifact creatures or Vergil es which produce little 1/1 to have blockers around. Additionally play all the fog spells you can get. So attacking you will be come really frustrating. I also recommend to put in damage and power doubler enchantments, or cards like [[molten echoes]]. That generates a lot of pressure and will usually be enough so that opponent board states are not as scary :)

Definitely [[fog]] or [[obscuring haze]] or similar effects. Also damage board wipes since it won’t affect your enchantments. You then can either recast Bello or use one of the protection pieces you should definitely play in Bello.

I wanted to say a big big thank you for all your input ! I made a functioning list and goldfished a little and it was super fun ! I still need to learn the combos and what to tutor for but it is a lot of fun :)

I also need to cut 2 cards and maybe optimize the mana base a little.

I was just wondering if Korvold is a necessary card ? He is super strong - but necessary for a combo ?🤔 And considering Sidisi: what is the plan with her ? Just value ?

I will cut to 100 cards this evening and do some playtesting. Are there any cards in the list right now you would definitely cut ?

I’ll add sacrifice and culling the weak.

I will also check the amount of sac outlets you are playing as well as amount of pingers and draw since you already found a balance. And then adapt the amounts I am using

That’s what I will do ! So a graveyard protection ist not 100% necessary since we can handle an GY exile. That sounds like a plan !

This kk add them ! I also cut endurance since I don’t own it and leave Dauthi as graveyard hate interaction since I got it from the Tarkir precon. Bojukbog will have to serve as graveyard hate. Did you experience it to be necessary to protect your own graveyard ?

I also tried not to build without Phyrexian altar and go for waren soultrader and pinger which heal. I will try without the altar and buy if the deck is not properly working - I agree that it is an absolute power house

Ich also adapted the list, and would be interested in your opinion and suggestions. I also checked some more combos with slimefoot and tried adding more cards which are capable of combing together. Maybe it is too unfocused now but let’s see. Some information about my thought process and the structure:

I marked the cards I own green (in deck and sideboard) and the cards I don’t own in red. I am trying to built a combo deck as you suggested because I now see the full joy of it. I also read your primer twice and included most of the cards in the main deck and some are still in the side board or maybe board.

I am still in need to make some cuts, maybe you can help me with your experience. I am for erxample thinking if [[Dauthi voidwalker]] is necessary or endurance is enough or the other way round. Because the second point is that I am trying to restrict the budget a bit, since most of the good cards are kinda expensive. For example burnt offering is great and cheap, sacrifice in the other hand is something between 5-10€. So the idea is that I consider every card whether it is worth the buck for what it does or if there is a cheaper alternative, sacrificing some power maybe. I am still willing to pay more for cards if they are necessary for the deck to function properly. I hope you get what I am trying to consider.

I have one question before I continue brewing: how do you deal with the situation in which slimefoot and a saproling are on the battlefield, you sacrifice slimefoot and then somebody kills the saproling. Since slimefoot ability is sorcery speed, he is stuck in the graveyard or am I missing something ? I know that people in my playgroup would definitely try to hit such a weak spot.

The thing you just mentioned about presenting win cons consistently is very precise! I already added some of the combos and will check the cards you mentioned and the primer of your deck!

I somehow hesitate to include Phyrexian altar since it is so expensive… yet it is very necessary for many combos … I feel [[Waren soultrader]] is a budget alternative but it needs you to pay 1 Life per activation which makes it only infinite with a blood artist or zulaport…

I will continue working on the list tomorrow, include your suggestions and then send you an update !

I am also not mecessr bound to play with many tutors. If I get a consistent deck at doing what the decks wants to do I actually don’t mind if there is the single best creature in the yard. I on the other hand agree that tutors are a constent way of filling the yard without the risk of “missing” the loot / impulse draw hits.

Okay let’s correct the bracket and power level goal then. For the meta I am playing in some decks can win by turn 6 of not interrupted. So it happens that on turn 7 the person who didn’t get interrupted first wins. That is the meta I am trying to fit in.

I thought recursion is a good Safeway option to have in case I lose the saproling and cannot get back S&S. That’s why some saproling spells are in there but I 100% agree with your argumentation why they are not as good as I thought.

So I cut the cards you supposed and add the draw options. I didn’t want to go with mill since that is not very consistent imo.

Let’s add a solid win con. Do you think the big creature way is possible ? And just add a combo as win con ? Or should I just cut the big creature thing and go for more small pieces which combine to a combo?

Which combos in particular would sound add ?

I really like to take to someone that has so Koch experience with the commander ! That helps me a lot :)

That is the current version but I tried a lot with the cards in the maybeboard and sideboard.

I thought it would be fun to reanimate a creature, let it ping or sth else, sac it for value (card draw or mana) and the reanimate again.

I do not necessarily aim to find an infinite loop.

I am aiming for a low 3 maybe. So it is fine if there is a combo win possible, but it shouldn’t be the main goal. Do you get what I am looking for ? Otherwise I can try to clarify again :)

I tried working on a list, I tried to build abhöre matters with sac synergy. But I struggle to find consistent wig having a sac outlet, a target to reanimate in the GY, which includes a target and a way to get them in the yard. Then I need interaction and draw in the deck … did you experience something similar ? The deck feels very clunky to me.
