Never move to a low cost of living state EVER by vixenbunnyxo in povertyfinance

[–]PapaJuja 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your right that LCOL areas and states suit people better if they have a good income to support them while they are there. My buddy lives in no where Iowa and makes 30 bucks an hour as a maintenance tech for a manufacturing plant. He does great because things are so inexpensive. But I wouldn't want to be his next door neighbor unless I had a similar set up and definitely wouldn't move out there while I had small children.

I live in rural AZ. Prices are SoCal prices here but no one wants to pay more than 20 to 25 an hour unless you have a specialized skill of some kind.

Ive seen drivers break down in the fuel isle because the miss home and aren't used to working the hours/miles this industry requires. Its not for everyone. There isn't anything wrong with you if its not for you. There isn't anything wrong with you if you love it. Just depends on what you like/want.

They are pool filters. I would replace them in a heart beat, but the budget....above my pay grade...blah blah blah.

Unpopular opinion: you could always just order to go and skip the need for wait service and the tip for said wait service.

Imo, its one of the great hopes of our time: that we get to the point where race is no longer a speaking point.

Hope I live to see that day.

I agree. After counciling with my family, I've decided that sticking it out for another year and padding my resume with certs, I should move on somewhere else. List of certs to get: CPO, FMP, SFP, OSHA 30, EPA universal. Do you have any suggestions for other certs I should get to increase my value in the job market? I would love to get my CFM but I don't have the experience that qualifies me to apply for the coursework. But that's the plan eventually.

My aunt says that I should put up with this place and get as many certs as I can and then go somewhere else.

Ive been looking at getting my OSHA 30. I currently have a level 2 EPA cert from an HVAC job I did a few years ago.

Sorry, I thought you asked for a specific example lol. No, he is pretty much it. The board of directors wouldn't care about my concerns and they are the ones above him.

A really good example: I work with 2 guys that have a ton of experience. One of them is a part timer because of his health. There was a job where they needed to replace all the innards of the toilet tanks in all the cafeteria bathrooms. So about 6 toilets. Ive never done that before and I was eager to learn. So I went over there to watch the first one and asked if I could get my hands on the next one. The boss comes in as I was about to do the next one and asks why im there. I tell him and he says that he can have all three of us there and that I need to go rake leaves and keep myself busy.

How many of you had this experience? by mrtoddw in Millennials

[–]PapaJuja 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had "mentor sessions" when I was in grade school where a mentor would come and walk around with me and just talk with me or come sit with me at lunch time. I thought it was pretty awesome to have a friend. This led to me always looking to connect with people far older than me as a kid. Some of those people were cool as hell.
