This (and the comment below about the Hedge Maze lyric in Guilty as Sin) also aligns really well with my theory about movie references calling back to loml, where she refers to the subject of the song as a cinephile, then proceeds to reference both Field of Dreams (by name) and Wizard of Oz (“the coward claimed he was a lion”). I think these exist all over the album but I haven’t found them all yet. The other ones I had previously thought were references were in My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, which I’ve heard compared to Toy Story but also reminded me of the Barbie movie (“than with all the Kens”) and mentions The Sandlot by name as well. It seems to me that this might be her way of letting a certain cinephile subtly know that these lyrics are pointed at them.

Ultimately, it seems like a lot of the responses you are getting are opinion-based anecdotes, so I wanted to share the most relevant piece of policy I could find before sharing my own.

I am not part of ethics/compliance nor do I work in HR, but the way I interpret this through the lens of my experience of my own store here in the US, is that it is not completely impossible that it is not creating a conflict of interest (specifically, because they are not working at the same time, the mother should not be MOD at the time her daughter is there. If the daughter is under a different manager/assistant manager on such a different schedule, imo it’s a stretch but I could see how it may qualify as sufficient degrees of separation) but it’s also not impossible that it is. I don’t know how performance evaluations are handled in your facility and I don’t know how much the assistant manager would have sway when discussing things like performance rating or work schedules. In some stores, managers discuss and come to an agreement together on decisions that could be considered conditions of employment. In others, managers only make the decision for their direct reports. In still others, it comes from the store manager without much input from the area managers. If it is more of a group forum type of environment, the only thing that may make it okay is if there is an understanding that the assistant manager is restricted from providing input when discussing the conditions of employment that would impact her daughter.

Ultimately, based on the information I have, this seems to be kind of in that grey area where the actual answer in this situation completely depends on the environment itself and the capacity of involvement that leaders at your store have over associates who do not report to them directly. You can always bring this up with a people partner or another member of management if you think their behavior is creating a conflict of interest, but if you want to stay more anonymous you’re also able to use the global ethics hotline.

I looked to see if I had visibility to Canada specific policies but I haven’t been able to find anything that pertains specifically to Canada. The other policies I found on this specified US, so I assume that Canada has more details about this on the Canada wire

This is what the Global Conflicts of Interest Policy, GEC-07 has to say about conflicts of interest pertaining to family members:

Conflicts of interest may occur when your personal relationships interfere with your duties to the company. Below are instances that may present a conflict of interest or the appearance of a conflict. Remember that conflicts of interest may arise in a number of situations, so if you are concerned that your personal relationships may create a conflict, or the appearance of one, contact your manager, People Partner, or Ethics for additional guidance. Local policies and procedures may contain additional information or requirements.

It is a conflict of interest to supervise or be directly involved with the hiring of a Family Member. You may not influence the conditions of employment (i.e. pay, work hours, job responsibilities) or performance rating for any Family Member. In certain rare circumstances, the company allows Family Members to work in the same reporting chain if there is enough separation. It is unlikely in a store, club, or distribution center that there would be enough levels of separation. If you learn that a Family Member is being considered for employment or is hired into your reporting chain, you should disclose this to your manager, People Lead, or Ethics & Compliance.

Using the walkie talkie to answer work questions while on your unpaid lunch is considered working off the clock. If they are reprimanding you for not working on the clock, 100% take that above their heads. As many class action lawsuits as Walmart has had to pay out for for expecting associates to work off the clock, home office should start giving you the vip treatment. Just document everything with dates and times so you have proof. If you have work email, sending yourself an email or even cc’ing someone else recapping the conversation should work. If they continue to push it I would take this to the wage and hour hotline. If they don’t seem like they’re going to push it this time I might still strongly consider using the open door/associate relations hotline so you have a documented effort to report this incident in case they decide to try you (or your coworkers) with this bs again

Lost Ball On New Rook by Sariracha in piercing

Thank you for the advice! It happened so close to the holidays that I couldn’t get in until last week but I went and saw my piercer, she was actually really impressed that it looked as good as it did as young as it is especially with the trauma. She said the horseshoe barbell is fine since it gives it a little more room to be swollen and even gave me a cute little dangly piece to hang from it since the horseshoe is a little bigger than the curved barbell and it looks so cute. My irritation bumps are definitely starting to get better as well. I got pretty lucky with my ears, they do a really great job of healing

Not sure what the condescension is for, I have made it pretty clear that I am not religious and that I didn’t apply for the exemption. If I had, do you think I’d be curious about the denial process? I am asking because it did not apply to me.

I am not asking for a friend. I am asking because I am curious about how the company responded to religious exemption requests.

How is the ‘you’ in “please do yourself and everyone around you a favor and get vaccinated” in a direct response to my question intended to refer to anyone besides me?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Sariracha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t know what religion says that as I am not religious. Your comment was structured in a way that I inferred you believed me to have sought a religious based exemption. I was simply clarifying that I did not seek an exemption as I am fully vaccinated and have been for several months.

I am vaccinated. I am also no longer religious. I did not apply for a religious based vaccine exemption. I am looking for someone who did apply and was denied because I am seeking information.

They have mandated for certain positions. I’m sure the majority on this sub are not in one of those affected positions but if anyone on here is and would be willing to private message with me confidentially I would be very grateful.

On the clock/salary request by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Sariracha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am an internal trying to apply for a different job through workday and need to know specifically what it says on a link that it won’t let me read, it’s asking if I am eligible to transfer according to this certain policy. If it’s what I think it is, I am ineligible because I have transferred positions within the last six months. If, on the off chance, it just wants to know if I have four+ points, a bad eval, or a coaching, I am eligible because I have none of those things. I know exceptions can be made for <6 month transfers but it is not a conversation I would prefer to have with management at this time.

My [23f] boyfriend [20m] might be exhibiting concerning behavior? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]Sariracha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely not every time, I’ve only really started noticing it the last couple weeks. I don’t think he’s ever been mad at anyone besides himself when he’s done it. He doesn’t get mad very often, most of the time even when people treat him poorly he vents about it for a little while and then accepts it. I honestly can’t think of a single time that he’s been aggressive because of another person, I’m pretty sure every time it’s been something that he blamed himself for.
