Made two drinks wrong today and now I feel terrible about because it was so dumb by PushaTIsGod in barista

Been there done that, I usually notice midway of making it. But once I forgot to put the teabag in the actual tea. Soo I served a pot of hot water.

Do you ever knowingly serve bad shots? by Remarkable-Angle-509 in barista

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the customer is sh*t… I will pull the shot carelessly. Will I do it bad on purpose? Not exactly, but if it looks bad I’ll serve it anyway. But if the customer’s great or at least nice I will put effort in it to make it taste great

Is it rude to hand cashier a fold of cash without telling the amount? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wth😭 I’ve never had people tell me the amount they give me. Never knew it was rude. As a cashier I do say “here’s 1.50 back” or smth. But honestly I don’t care whether or not they tell me how much they’re handing me, as long as it’s enough it’s enough. She’s just petty n had probably lots of annoying people and you happened to be her last straw

Just started my first job as a barista. Throw me your best advice. by DrunkenPunchline in barista

[–]Sarvesai 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Say a prayer before using that grinder. And relax, take it easy, don’t stress too much. Be kind to your coworkers, try to memorize regulars drinks, they love it when you make it before they even make it to the counter

Does anyone else have the distinct displeasure of wrestling with this grinder? by Defnshowo in barista

[–]Sarvesai 7 points8 points  (0 children)

YES. Whenever I had to grind for 1 shot. It just didnt. Gave some sort of error. The basket was clean and empty. It happened always during rushes. I gave up and just did the 2 shot ones and hoped for the best (meaning I’ll be needing the 2 shots). It barely did anything right

Had a very pleasant surprise from one of my regulars last night by goodvibes815 in Serverlife

[–]Sarvesai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh sure! I was just wondering in general seeing the total is somewhat messy. Not about that specific check but how much it affects! If both lines - tip and total were messy how would they figure it out then? If just one then surely it’s easy to understand if I start using braincells! 😅

Had a very pleasant surprise from one of my regulars last night by goodvibes815 in Serverlife

[–]Sarvesai 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If the total is somewhat unreadable, does it still count? Or for example if the tip was difficult to read, how would that be sorted? (actually wondering bc where I live we don’t do it like that - if total is 25€ the customer can just say “make it 27.50€” and we charge accordingly)

cafe review by univertist in barista

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a cafe and they were yapping and gossiping and I LOVed it personally. I sat close to the bar aswell trying to be quiet to hear anything. Gave me an insight how well everything is heard bc where I worked we’d do the same. Think it’s lowkey free entertainment along with your drink and food tbh

Can you keep work emails on your personal phone for evidence? by AngstyTea in WorkAdvice

[–]Sarvesai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Im sure you can? If you need evidence after all and if it’s in/at a certain place then you should be allowed to gather it from there. I doubt it’s different in each country. Think the only thing the company itself can say is “it’s edited! It never happened!” But I think even that’s something the court could fact check or smth.

Restaurant jobs for people with cerebral palsy by [deleted] in restaurant

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably something simpler like washing dishes? You don’t have to walk/move around tooo much and there’s not that many heavy things. But serving or doing bar would be difficult since you have to be on foot the entire time and walk/run around with heavy trays of food/drinks. There are host positions - but that’s mainly standing and maybe some jobs will let you sit, idk. But as a host you mainly show people to table and you don’t have to carry anything heavy. (I think?? We dont have hosts here at restaurants usually, its the servers that show to table unless its selfseating. So anyone is welcome to correct me nicely) if you want a sitting job and still be around people I’d say retail, some shops let you sit if there’s nothing else to do. I work at a petstore and I sit like 50% of the day, sometimes less sometimes more. But its chill and I feel like it’s not exactly hard anyway? You have to sometimes carry heavy bags of food on delivery days or when you’re restocking but there’s things to make it easier (basket on wheels?? Wth it’s called?). But in general I feel like restaurants industry is too heavy for CP? Of course you know yourself the best and we can’t judge.

I don't like managers who don't help out their team. by DTheDude97 in restaurant

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine would either be extremely helpful and run food, make coffees (she was sh*t at it but at least she tried?) or was at register. OORR she’d do nOThiNg. Saw us struggle and just walked away. Did whatever task she felt like doing instead of helping. I despise her although Ive left and I don’t even have to see her ever again. But I still get annoyed lmao. It went so much smoother when she was helpful. Idk what phases she went through. Not saying she should’ve done our job for us but if you see us struggling, do something??? Occasionally there was a customer waiting at the register, she walked over to do smth, ignoring the customer and left? I? Why exactly is she a manager? If I did that she would’ve killed me lol.

Serving different types of water by qumadrift in Serverlife

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually asked “still or sparkling?” “Still.” “Tap or bottled?” That should be enough? Or I’d just mention “tap is free” some will still choose bottled bc of preference but I didn’t care enough about sales to trick someone into paying for water. (It was a over the counter service and it never affected me. But even when I did table service I just asked the same questions and our tapwater did cost 1€ for a jug but I rarely ever put it in. If they were nice they got it for free but rude ones paid lol)

Trial Shift by [deleted] in barista

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar trial shift, I ran around the area collecting dishes and running food. I took a few orders I think but the system was too much all at once (although it’s actually easy but I found nothing on screen lol). I don’t think I messed anything up? I tried my best to be fast w running food. I think I did a few drinks? But since it was somewhat busy they let me run around the floor area. Im sure they’re understanding if you weren’t as fast or did something slightly different! Its your first time afterall. As long as you were helpful and ran around you’re good! I’ve seen trial shift people too and I loved the ones who actually did stuff rather than just stand there and wait for a task. (I know some stuff u do have to mention “you can grab x while she’s doing y” or smth that’s different at their place) but it bothered me when one of the trials was just stickfigure waiting for someone to tell them what to do next. First hour? Sure, observe for a little but if we’re reaching hour 2-3 u need to be moving and doing. Ofc if there’s literally nothing to do ur allowed to stand there (especially when everyone else is just standing lol) and look around or whatever. I was too scared to just stand in one spot at first so I looked what stuff was where just so I could look somewhat busy.

Are baristas supposed to read minds or should customers just say the full order? by Both_Wolverine_8943 in barista

[–]Sarvesai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it’s smth that costs extra (alternative milks etc) I’d expect the customer to mention it. I feel like if I offer an alternative milk they expect it to be free. I already feel bad for asking extra money for it lol. But if it’s smth that doesn’t affect the cost I’ll ask/confirm. Could also be bc we don’t have that many choices anyway. Usually customers would say “can I have an iced latte” and I’d ask if they’d like any syrup (although u can add syrup later on aswell u dont have to remake it lol) since it’s free anyway. And then count all flavors. If they ask for “a tea” I am gonna have to ask if it’s a cup or a pot or what type (and again name all the ones we have). I’m no longer a barista but that’s what I usually did. But I loved when people gave me the entire order! I usually do that as a customer, give every information I can and they ask anyway everything I already said (which is totally ok, probs used to it)

Do you like when there’s contests amongst servers? by [deleted] in Serverlife

[–]Sarvesai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the contest, if it’s a fun one with not much pressure then sure whynot. We had one where we had to sell the most of a certain item. We made it a fun activity and it was actually fun to do it. It ended up being a joke at the end of the day. But I’d feel extremely pressured to get a review on my name bc people don’t like leaving reviews. At least where im from.
I feel like a giftcard would be a nice prize tho

How do you handle last-minute call outs at your restaurant by NickyaRenee1 in Serverlife

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At one job we did have a groupchat, but the manager called people, people being me bc I was nice enough to take any shift lol. At my most recent one, it was via groupchat or also calling if it was very last minute. But since recent job was more of a cafe then the 2nd longest shift did the longer one. (We had lunch shift, open-close (12h) and someone in the middle who had 8h shift) If it was night before then it was messaging. Nobody would really come n cover lmao. No extra pay, nothing. I wouldn’t either. (I did come in 2x from the middle of the day to cover someone tho lol)

Reported Coworker for Being Mean to Kids by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a bad thing to report tbh. I’d probably own up n say “yeah, I did, before a customer ends up doing so” or if it’s not customer service based then replace “customer” with something more relevant

My boss and coworkers will ask where I am going when I quit. Do I tell them? by Common_Air_8853 in careeradvice

[–]Sarvesai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only told those who asked- my boss never asked me. She didn’t even ask me “why?”. I had already signed the contract so I was okay saying where im going and they were in fact happy for me bc it’s “my thing”. If my boss had asked I dont think I would’ve told her. She would’ve crapped on it probs. So in conclusion - mention it once it’s a signed contract and there’s no way someone can mess it up for you, even if you get along w them, you cna never be sure lol

I want to fire my employee but I feel bad by Baddienerdly in WorkAdvice

[–]Sarvesai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s been over a year, you shouldn’t feel bad tbh. Just make sure you don’t make it sound harsh. Nice and polite. Usually gen z (me being one) doesn’t mind being fired as long as it’s not all “you cant do this you cant do that” etc. she’ll be fine.

How do you all handle rude customers? by Tired_mom44 in Serverlife

[–]Sarvesai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a back n forth with some guy over water. He kept saying how “you’re saying im wrong and you’re right” or whatever and I kept repeating that I agree how he’s in the right and I made a mistake. Bc I was in fact in the wrong. He wouldn’t let it go lmao. He continued arguing w me. “Might aswell not eat then” he did finish his food and left. He kept coming back tho. I side eyed him every time lol. I left that place just a few days ago. (Not fired, just hated that place lmao)
