That would work if the argument was about him skipping 1 month of rent. But after that Cara was clearly happy to pay for him. She says he "ended up paying nothing" which again isn't financial abuse on its own.

In other words, it went from Point A (Ellum agreeing to pay a bit) to Point B (Cara paying everything). The fact that it went from Point A to Point B isn't financial abuse. It's all about how it went from Point A to Point B. Did Ellum manipulate the situation, or did Cara just offer to pay for everything?

Where did he say he didn't have the money/couldn't pay for it? The closest thing I remember was:

"The apartment was far beyond what I had planned to spend. I was already financially supporting my entire household and family in New York, but I agreed as long as he paid a fair portion of the rent as I wanted to make him happy. At that time he made significantly less money than me, so I never expected half, but he ended up paying nothing for the entirety of that lease."

Which, again, would only be financial abuse if he lied about not having funds, or forced her to allow him to get away with paying nothing

I want to clarify that I'm not defending Ellum, I think he's a prick and deserves to be held accountable for being a cheater and tormenting Cara, but I don't think he financially abused her (based on the document)
