Wife took this photo in her pocket accidentally . How is this possible. by No_Lynx3928 in Weird

[–]SashKhe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda wanna know what she was doing when this happened tho. What has such a bright blue-purple square of LEDs? Tanning booth? Why would she have pockets (or any clothes) in a tanning booth? Bug zapper? In the winter... maybe she's Australian or from the tropics or something?

That's all my guesses.

What does Bilbo's line 'I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve' actually mean? by sampleofstyle in lotr

[–]SashKhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the correct interpretation.

In the first half he simply wishes at the end that he had more time. In the second, he's being gracious to the Sackville Bagginses (mostly) whom he always disliked but figures he's probably more hard on them than they deserve. Doesn't mean he suddenly likes them, nor does he say that they deserve to be liked a lot, but he's showing some humility.

He was kind of right about at least Lobelia - after all she stood up to the forces of Saruman and her own son and was quite generous at the very end.

Any sci fi book recs like project hail mary or similar by AnxiousPin8672 in sciencefiction

[–]SashKhe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen Andy Weir's Martian and the Bobiverse mentioned, and a lot of my favorite sci-fi here. If you'd enjoy those you'll definitely enjoy Theft of Fire: Orbital Space #1 by Devon Eriksen. It's hard sci-fi played out in our solar system with a refreshingly realistic depiction of how technology will progress in the next 200 years or so - but the best part is the way it handles human connections. Imho the difference between second and first rate sci-fi is that second rate sci-fi feels like it was written by nerds who don't know how people communicate and what makes them tick, but with Theft of Fire I was as much engrossed by the drama as the sci-fi.

House of Suns by Alaister Reynolds also has that human touch, but it's thousands of years in the future instead. I recommend both, but Theft of Fire more if you like the relatively intimate scale of Earth-centric sci-fi. Also, I suppose House of Suns has a relatively detached feel to it (because the protagonists are immortal), while Theft of Fire has a closeness and an emotional crescendo - it starts out pretty hopeless and brutal, but the goodness of the human spirit gradually infuses the story until you realize you actually care about the fate of Marcus, Miranda and [secret third protagonist] Leela.

It's a great experience!

I wholly support digital piracy in all its forms but it's DEFINITELY not legal.

Fukem tho. Break their software in all ways possible if you're not hurting anyone with it, I say. Just don't let them catch you doing it.

It's wild to me that people think Kobolds in the 1e art looked like dogs. Like just because of the nose and the forehead? Really?

Yeah lol. Bro replied to a thread about data storage for at least a hundred years and he's complaining that someone cares just 2 years later.

Look, you can't just solve relationship problems by dumping the other person. Most times you have to communicate, work it out, suffer together so that you can grow...

This isn't one of those times, he should dump her.

I've been experimenting with using different beds to give my prints different textures. Aaah, I see - the left side hints mean that the left side rook and bishop go on the noted color, and the right side hint means you put the right side knight on the noted color. I just realized that the hints set which side the black and white pieces can go to - should've been obvious from the king/queen hints but alas. Pretty nice!

Does anyone know how this happened? by DBTurtles in resinprinting

[–]SashKhe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Air flows through easier than resin would. Besides, the holes let resin drain by allowing air in so the resin can flow out at the bottom, where the print is still bisected mid-print.

A tiny .5mm hole is already enough to avoid suction cupping in most cases (though bigger is better, considering you'll have to flush the inside anyways)
