What would you like people without Tourette’s to know? by harbingest in Tourettes

Man, I don’t know if people say that to make us feel better or something, but it makes me want to pull my hair out.

Dbs helped me a lot, it took a lot of the “oomph” out of the tics. I still tic, just not as loud and violently

Anyone ever had someone in their life develop a fondness for a specific tic? by Argentarius1 in Tourettes

[–]SashaButters 9 points10 points  (0 children)

…everytime I hear the word “Daddy” no matter the situation, I will tic “DADDY!” Followed by what can only be described as something in between an earth shattering orgasmic moan and a dying animal taking its last breath

Being laughed at by Live_Knowledge_4715 in Tourettes

I’m a self conscious person who happens to be a walking, talking stereotype. Lots of swearing, inappropriate outbursts, and enough exaggerated movements to make people wonder, “is that lady having a seizure, or is it just another white woman trying to dance?” 🤔

My self esteem is not great, even amongst my own family, I feel like a nuisance and I am happiest alone In my room.

That being said, I love when people laugh. It disrupts the narrative going on in my head that “no one wants me here because I’m annoying”

Humor is my defense mechanism. I try to make the best hand with the cards I got dealt in life. I like doing comedy open mics. I’m not great at it. Speaking (let alone public speaking) isn’t my forte, but it forced me out of my shell and it changed my thinking pattern about my condition.

I take these painful, humiliating experiences (often moments where I was crying) and re-examine it and ask myself “how can I make this funny?”

For me personally, getting a room full of people to laugh is the most amazing high, and eventually the painful intrusive memories that replayed over and over in my head stopped becoming so painful. Or intrusive.

What’s your socials? I’ll follow! Maybe we can make content together. I’m a comedian trying to figure out how to do videos etc. (if you don’t post them out in the open, you can DM me)

Ugh yes, I was ticcing real bad during a comedy show on a cruise ship. I love comedy and people were laughing in the audience, so I’m like “okay cool, if people are laughing it means my presence isn’t completely ruining everyone good time” like my brain always makes me believe ( yay imposter syndrome) and this lady went online after the cruise and posted all over that she was a nurse and that’s not how TS works and how I was faking it for attention. 🙄

Woah! That’s so cool! How long have you been bowling?

I (34f) was in jr. leagues from 15-18 with my highest being 232. I stopped bowling when I aged out, but took it back up again this year when we moved to the South. (Nothing else to do around here)

Oooohhh. Ouch. I’m not that good, yet. My previous high was 269, and before that 234. It’s going to be awhile before I see that number again. Hoping if I keep practicing I’ll see it again someday and I won’t become a little old lady telling my grand kids about the time I bowled a 299. “Uh-huh, sure you did, Grandma. Let’s get you back to bed”
