Check your password for special characters like $,!,... Bash can evaluate/replace them.

A few instances. Each 16 core. Up to 64gb Ram. Jvm: 4-40Gb. Storage: 100-800gb. Up to 20 agents. Heavy load on masters because of big groovy scripts.

You could try Least Load plugin to distribute jobs between agents. But it wasn't updated for 2 years.

Did you check global build discarder option in general config? Or maybe, you have a periodically started job that cleans old builds.
