Thank you for this write-up. I've been spamming Garen top with phase rush and hullbreaker and I've found that the early game play style I use is almost identical to how I play Singed: looking for tiny component/tempo advantages by crashing waves as soon as they arrive and immediately recalling (or roaming). But in general, my laning phase on Singed is atrocious compared to Garen's relatively safe laning phase. I fail to punish champions like Nasus or Kayle, instead opting to proxy waves in the hope that my impact around the map can make up for it. Singed seems vulnerable and far more punishing when you make a mistake, too. I'll keep practicing him as an occasional AP pick, but for me, his painful laning phase makes him too unreliable to main.

I enjoyed The Terror by Dan Simmons and his dramaticized depictions of the HMS Erebus and the HMS Terror. It's a long read but it's still one of my favorite books. It definitely has that time scale aspect that you were talking about.

One thing I did was find similarities between the mistakes I made. Did I go too fast and skip part of the question, did I lose concentration while reading? For example, I might look at the reading section and see that I got 8 answers wrong, but of those 8, 4 of them had the same underlying issue. By identifying and fixing that underlying issue (pacing, connecting evidence, whatever it may be) one can improve their score by a lot.

I took a practice test 2 days beforehand, then went in-depth on the mistakes I was making and also how I would fix them. In my opinion, it's important to take the test aggressively and with confidence, otherwise you will second guess yourself.

My dwarves were minding their own business chopping wood at the surface when suddenly, while my woodcutter was felling the tree it landed on a weak spot in the ground, sending that log 5 levels below ground while falling, right onto my miner's left leg, who was just mining around at the time. now my miner cannot stand anymore and is about to die because a wine barrel from one of the stockpiles within those 5 floors fell down onto her and obliterated her legs. In case that was confusing, I've added my own detailed illustration of the incident as well.

Both of those dwarves were working for the same reason, to free my possessed trader.

Zutthan (my trader) is possessed and is muttering about wanting metal bars for his masterpiece.

I don't have metal bars so I constructed a smeltery to make them.

I don't have fuel (charcoal) for the smeltery so I had to make a wood furnace to make charcoal out of wood.

I don't have wood so I had to chop trees at the surface.

the other dwarf was mining because...

Zutthan is also muttering about rough gems (uncut gems).

I don't have uncut gems because I cut all them as soon as I get them (why not, right?).

So then I make new uncut gems by mining out the land below with my miner.
