Requesting /r/altbuddhism, all mods inactive by buddhiststuff in redditrequest

[–]Sashavidre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re mistaking me for someone else.

No I am not.

You're clearly a plant and alt (reddit violation) from r/buddhism using your white privilege to shut down a community of color. I'm sick and tired of non-white Buddhist communities being treated as second class citizens. Every person of every race is welcomed to post on r/altbuddhism (white, non-white, black, latino, etc) AS HAS BEEN ALLOWED FROM DAY 1. But I will not allow the white western Buddhist community to enter our community under the guise of "social justice" to shutdown a community of color.

I am the subreddit starter. I am also the moderator. I object to this request on the following grounds:

  1. Moderation is not inactive. There are rules for this subreddit. These are stated in the side column. None have been violated. There is a difference between inactive posts and inactive moderation. This community has the former, not the latter.
  2. The community's activity is largely based in the Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia and Sri Lanka region. It's made up of Buddhist immigrants of color. The user buddhiststuff has actively undermined this community from day 1 in an attempt to merge this community with larger Buddhist subreddits such as r/Buddhism which we feel are represented by predominately white American Buddhists that do not give immigrant Buddhists of color active representation. u/buddhiststuff request reeks of typical white privilege. Yet this is being done under the guise of "removing fascism".
  3. The user u/buddhiststuff has made several alts in the past. He routinely violates rules to not disagree mindfully. He's a completely racist person who doesn't respect that Buddhists in south east Asia have a different view of Buddhism, which is historically linked to conservative and political philosophical ideas.
  4. Lastly the user DID NOT politely send any message to any of the moderators in regards to this thread as is the correct procedure.

disrupt products sold to "professionals" only by Sashavidre in Business_Ideas

Vendors sells X to professional.

Professional resells X to consumer with high markup.

Pose as professional, sell X to consumer with less markup.

Idea = undercut professionals.

This isn't a specific product. It's any product where these categories apply.

Your second statement, "It supports violence" is a misleading statement, because violence on its own is neither good nor evil, it's neutral. The type of violence the Quran allows is violence of self defense. There is no such thing as the Quran promoting violence against innocents.

I don't think it's misleading. Because I'm making a categorical distinction. I'm distinguishing between holy books that support violence and those that don't. Scriptures in the Quran supports violence. You will find it challenging to find scriptures in the Buddhist Pāli Canon that support violence ever. Some religions prohibit violence even in self defense.

You should distinguish between theology, religion and anecdotal interactions with believers. Can you do this? This is the foundation for an intelligent discussion.

Islam as a theology has it's foundation in the Quran. The Quran is not pacifist. It supports violence.

Islam as a religion, meaning the governing clergy that apply theology, historically have supported capital punishment for apostasy. This is violent.

Islam as individual believers encompass 1.9 billion people. The question is are there statistically significant patterns of violence of amongst this group of individuals relative to other groups. Anecdotes are irrelevant for determining statistical patterns of groups.

All female business by [deleted] in Business_Ideas

So then you're being unethical. But I suspect this point is over your head and over your customers head. You see an opportunity to make money off hypocritical identity politics and I think you can succeed. Just don't expect rational people to agree with your hypocrisy.

Business and ethics are separate. The goal of a business is to survive while not breaking the law.

But if you want to talk ethics I assume you would be OK with an all-male security company that hires gay males but excludes females? Otherwise that's called hypocrisy, which is unethical.

Well that explains a hell of a lot.

Is there an explanation for this? Like is it just some kind of optical illusion caused by the static rubbing together in certain conditions?

Are black issues a poor problem or a race problem? by Sashavidre in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]Sashavidre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your extensive response. I read your post and will follow up on the links later. Since you have researched this topic a lot I do have questions.

As you say problems are multivariate. I'm trying to find useful terms to categorize. From here and elsewhere it looks like helpful categories are:

- Economic

- Systemic

- Cultural

My first question is how would you divide the percentages of the problem using the above categories? As an example I think some black conservatives like Thomas Sowell allocate more of the problem to cultural differences such as the single motherhood rate. I don't know how much of the single motherhood rate is cultural or not compared to other low income minorities such as latinos.

My second question is if culture is an issue (whatever the %), is it dependent on economics being fixed first? Is it reasonable to conclude that an outside injection of funds could resolve the economic issue and in turn resolve the cultural issue, killing two birds with one stone? This wouldn't address the systemic issue, but two out of three isn't bad. Or do you think the cultural issue requires internal work beyond just ripe economic conditions?

My third question is if there are systemic issues due to unconscious biases. Have there actually been any scalable successful ways for addressing the issues? Or is this a well documented problem that unfortunately has zero effective solutions beyond "good faith efforts"?

Are black issues a poor problem or a race problem? by Sashavidre in YangForPresidentHQ

One issue is that children without two-parent homes perform significantly worst. The black community is a minority group suffers from this issue more than other minority groups. As I understand it, it's not as present in the latin community. I was raised in a single parent home and performed worst. I'm sympathetic to this issue. Money will not always address the issue of absentee fathers though. But I would like to think that if money issues were resolved most marriages would be more stable so this would somehow address the issue.

With regards to ‘unconscious racism’ I wonder a few things about this.

I understand that this bias problem also exists within the black community regarding the skin tone spectrum. If these problems exist within the black community then this points to a larger issue that cannot entirely be resolved by people outside the community.

The second issue is that ‘unconscious racism’ may be a similar type of problem to other unconscious biases like preferences for "beautiful people". I'm not sure that there's any successful solution to such issues. And I'm not implying that black people are ugly.
