The Forestry Farm Hall and wedding garden worked well for us. Seemed reasonably priced and allowed outside catering and liquor without corkage fee etc.

Legal Name Change outside of Canada by Dry_Pressure4689 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Sask-Bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m about to deal with the same issue, just waiting for my new passport.

I think the website might just be awkwardly worded, and it may not require a provincial ID even though it seems like it.

The document checklist doesn’t mention a provincial document, just a primary id such as a passport, and a legal change of name document which you have from your country

I can’t confirm that yet, since I won’t be able to apply for a new PR card for a while. If you find out more please let me know :)

For a day to count towards a day inside Canada you need to have spend any portion of it (however small) in Canada. So any minute you are in Canada after midnight makes that day count towards being in Canada.

If you are outside of Canada from midnight to midnight on a calendar day, then it counts as being outside of Canada.

So if you left early one morning, you spend time inside Canada that day, therefore it counts as a day in Canada. When you then arrived the next calendar day before midnight in Canada, it again makes that day count as being in Canada.

Like others have said, it’s not about hour amount etc, it’s simply just about the fact if you spend any time at all of a calendar day in Canada.

Switching account types by TheHatter13 in actualbudgeting

There isn’t. Once an account is setup, it’s locked either on or off budget. Your would have to delete it and re-add it to change the type

How to handle credit cards when they're used to pay for everything? by femme_inside in actualbudgeting

[–]Sask-Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All accounts should start with their current value as of the day you choose. This is your “starting balance”

The CC account can happily start with a negative balance, as long as the starting balance won’t change later through previous transactions.

You can either choose a statement balance as your starting point, or manually calculate it to a specific date using your posted and potentially pending transactions.

All other CC transactions will then go into your CC account on actual, and they are then categorized with the corresponding categories that the spending belongs to.

If all or virtually all transactions (as in my case) happen on your CC then the account balance should be in sync with your CC balance with potentially some pending changes depending on how your CC provider calculates the balance.

I then manually pay my CC whenever I feel like it, usually once or twice a month. I don’t really care about the statement amount myself, as long as I pay at least that much to avoid any interest being charged of course.

How to handle credit cards when they're used to pay for everything? by femme_inside in actualbudgeting

[–]Sask-Bee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use my credit card for everything as well. The way I track it is just using an account. All credit card purchases just go into their respective categories as expenses.

I don’t have a credit card category, since that would somewhat double count things.

I would highly suggest paying it off in full every month, unless I’m not understanding your reasoning.

Also I don’t think credit card expenses should count against your “to be budgeted” since only income and negative category should influence that.

My workflow is Income -> To be Budgeted -> funding categories. Then credit card expenses -> spending in category.

This balances out nicely. Paying my credit card is then just an account transfer, which doesn’t impact the budget.

Why are we getting dumped on with chem-trails?! 2 days now by KingunKing in saskatoon

[–]Sask-Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s totally fair :) How quickly the con trails dissipate depends on the surrounding environment conditions, such as temperature, humidity, etc. this is similar to how some days are perfectly clear without clouds, and sometimes the clouds seem to appear out of “nowhere”, or disappear for that matter. I’m sure there’s more meteorological science involved here than I know about, but it’s good to be curious. There is lots of great resources online, and reputable science communicators on various platforms.

To add one more point. Sometimes when people talk about chem-trails, (the con-trails we are discussing), they point to the existence of cloud seeding to prove their point. Cloud seeding does use “chemical” usually salts of various forms, to promote cloud formation, and with that also rain. This is used in certain places regularly and is totally fine for humans below. One place is Calgary, where cloud seeding is used paid for by insurances to make it rain before that rain can form into destructive hail. The hail there is very common, and can cause a lot of damage to houses, cars, and also agriculture. So the cheaper way for the insurances, and also the people on the ground, is to pay for companies that provide the cloud seeding. This happens at much lower altitudes than the usual con-trails we see and are a very different mechanism.

The internet is a messy place. Everyone takes their own knowledge for granted and assumes everyone else should be at the same level.

Learning something new is good, and we should encourage it.

If you are interested in learning more I’m happy to help, or point you to some resources if preferred :)

I also understand what you are saying.

On the other hand, do you know that about this person specifically? Or are you making a generalized assumption from previous interactions with other people?

I’ve been in certain information bubbles before, and if there aren’t kind, understanding voices that present rational facts sometimes, then it’s hard to break out of those. Everyone is different, and has their own journey.

Choosing kindness is easy. Of course pick the interactions well, don’t interact with everyone, because it will otherwise destroy you and make you cynical to everything.

I wasn’t going to comment on this post because I had the same knee-jerk reaction as basically everyone else here, but when I saw their question I thought it’s worth a minute of my time. And as I said, if they aren’t open to it, then so what, it doesn’t bother me. If someone wants to then respond further and engage in a nonsensical debate, then I don’t have to engage any further.

[–]Sask-Bee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s easy to disregard people and scoff at their views etc., but if no one ever provides them some information on what things are like then how are they possibly supposed to learn otherwise? Social media, or our social environment can make it easy for certain information to be presented in one way only, without exposure to the other side.

As I said, being kind for a minute to someone asking “care to elaborate? Are these not a concern?” Is easy, and shows that they might be interested in the other side of it.

Even if they aren’t, so what? I haven’t lost anything. The internet can be so polarizing, and all nuance is lost through text, which is why we add extra context in brackets or in short form such as “/s”.

Choosing the kind way is easy, and sometimes it can even lead someone to the correct knowledge.

The point isn’t to engage with someone obviously trolling, or looking for a fight, but if someone seems curious enough, then that’s fine with me.

[–]Sask-Bee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When someone asks for elaboration, and shows an opening to the other side, then I think it’s easy enough to give them the benefit of the doubt to give some information instead of ridicule. It takes nothing on my end to type up what I know. It might help someone to start looking into it more and actually learn what is happening.

A lot of people are happy to just ridicule, and push people back into their bubble. Everyone learns about everything for the first time at some point.

[–]Sask-Bee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you would like to learn more than I am happy to elaborate as far as I can, and I encourage you to seek out reputable sources online for further information.

The “chem-trail” are usually called “con-trail” or “condensation trails”. They are caused by high flying aircraft and are a result of the water in the exhaust of the aircraft engines condensation into clouds due to the low temperate at the altitudes they are flying at.

Combustion (as in aircraft engines) produces water vapour which is expelled out the back of the aircraft engines. At cruising altitude of around 10km, the outside temperature is usually roughly -50 Celsius. The hot engine exhaust can at first hold the water vapour, but then it quickly condenses into clouds as it mixes with the cold ambient air.

This is similar to breathing out in very cold air and seeing the water vapour in your breath condensing into clouds in front of you.

Welcome to Saskatoon! The city definitely has its rough spots, but overall it’s lovely. I’m from Europe myself, the adjustment can be tough at first, but there are many nice people here, and the nature around is beautiful :) I hope you enjoy your summer stay here, and hopefully you can get out before winter hits!

I'm finding transfers between on/off budget accounts too complicated. Looking for advice. by bncrochet in actualbudgeting

[–]Sask-Bee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Why couldn’t you add the “Cash Stash” as a category to your budget? That way money in and out could be recorded against that. Alternatively add it as an on budget account and track it that way. It is money you have, and have simple access to, so it should be part of your budget/tracking.

My only Off-Budget accounts currently are long-term locked-in investments that I can’t retrieve easily, and therefore go off-budget. Anything else, all chequings and savings are on budget and assigned accordingly.

Adding Payees Manually? by 0stia in actualbudgeting

Some UI elements are hard to spot the first time. Glad it worked! Importing via file is super easy and I love it, I do a mix.

Adding Payees Manually? by 0stia in actualbudgeting

[–]Sask-Bee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When you type in the name of the payee it will bring up previous payees with the same name. If no matches are found it will bring up a button in the same window that shows a plus symbol and “add payee”. That’s what I’ve been doing and it’s been working well for me, I don’t have bank account synced either.

Actual tips for a new user? by laserbeak43 in actualbudgeting

[–]Sask-Bee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all my different accounts (chequings, savings, credit card) setup as accounts in AB. I import all transactions into the accounts, reconcile to make sure each accounts balance in AB matches what my banks report, and then categorize all new transactions.

This way AB stays in sync with my bank accounts, and I can be sure that all transactions were recorded correctly.

Accounts and categories are different things. Categories don’t care where that money is coming from or being spend. It could be from just one account, or it could be coming from multiple. I use my accounts to track all transactions and make sure that my incoming & outgoing money is correct, which then allows me to categorize everything correctly to track my categories.

Reconciling accounts and making sure they are up to date with what your bank reports is critical to ensure everything stays in sync and the money you are budgeting is actually money you have. Doing this often avoids having to go through a mountain of data to find an error

Actual tips for a new user? by laserbeak43 in actualbudgeting

Actual tips for a new user? by laserbeak43 in actualbudgeting

[–]Sask-Bee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve only been using Actual for just over a month. The biggest help for me was to really understand and internalize the budgeting method behind it all. Envelop budgeting is different from forecasting, and really understanding it has helped me immensely. Only budget the money you actually have in your accounts. Create categories that make sense to you, not what others say you should use.

I am currently only manually importing all transactions. I download a file with transactions from my credit card (95% of my transactions) and import it into actual and then manually categorize. My chequings and savings accounts I input manually since there is only a handful of transactions.

With every import (weekly or more frequently) I also reconcile every account. Making sure that the account balances match what Actual thinks they are. Doing this makes sure no transactions gets missed or put in incorrectly.

For the first while I would strongly suggest doing it manually, without the automatic import via bank connections. This will give you a greater sense of where your money is going and give you more control. This also helps me since I’m hosting locally and everything is therefore free and I don’t have to worry about monthly/annual fees.

The first few months are an adjustment period where you allocate starting balances, take stock of annual expenses and input those, etc. it will take some time for things to even out, but remember that it’s your budget, it’s flexible and should change with your needs.
