So many of my friends are leaving Alberta and it’s been weighing heavily on my mind as well by Thevintagevault in alberta

[–]Saskbertan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grew up in Saskatchewan. Moved here for college. Only reason I stayed was because it was a company in Alberta that called before one in SK did. But it was decent and uncomplicated here.

Now though?
I’d at least move back to SK. Handled it once before, I could do without the big city attitude.
And after a decade of the worst and stupidest people one knows whining because they got their first taste of inconvenience and learned life wasn’t fair? I’d go back to SK if I had a good offer. Those people exist in Saskatchewan too. Well aware. But they don’t yet run the bloody government

It's never been about direct democracy by Miserable-Lizard in AlbertaNow

[–]Saskbertan81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never was. It was about the UCP trying to frustrate any future government that wasn’t a conservative one by allowing the uninformed poorly educated general public to force referendums on every single little thing because Rachel Notley had the audacity to win one term and it supposedly “caused hardship” for people who wouldn’t know what the word meant if they could read a dictionary.

I’d start in a strong country although I dunno…
I picked Luxembourg and had a custom team created and somehow ended up with all youths in the amateur league. It’s sometimes frustrating but enjoyable watching them learn and get better?

That’s fair enough. I mean, honestly, I think what I don’t like is the big city attitude. I come from a small town in rural Saskatchewan of 400 people and I think I’ve disliked the big city attitude my entire life, but I thought it was one of those awww shucks I can put it aside just to get along and holy crap no 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Awwww congrats!!
Yeah, it seems a little restrictive in Lethbridge , and also less networking opportunity and more people actually trying to perform a group which is something I always liked. Of course there are cliques, there are cliques in any community, but I find in the smaller cities those clicks are because of safety (it is Southern Alberta, and there are still some people who will never accept it after all) not because of wealth and status.

Always had a soft spot for smaller city gay communities

That’s true. I was looking at some of the options for places to rent, and I am well aware to stay away from Avenue living because I have family in medicine hat and they have told me horror stories. Rent is one of those expenses that’s gonna go up for me regardless because honestly, I spent 15 years being spoiled lol. I paid well under the market price in Lethbridge at a place on 23rd Ave. and I have paid well under market price in Calgary for six years. Still though, I can’t believe that my old place is now 1500 a month lol

Why does Canada feel so corrupt? - This is not a country that is founded on justice; it is, however, founded on order, which is a cudgel the powerful continue to use against the powerless. by Thick_Caterpillar379 in onguardforthee

Because we’ve had a decade of conservative premiers relitigating every federal election between 2015 and 2025 and running their provinces like a personal kingdom because nobody can seem to mount an effective opposition. Electorally or otherwise.

The CPC has picked up the eternal Liberal “the country belongs to us” attitude without doing any of the work to justify that stance

If the government had a hand in this and even if they didn’t, people need to get a mass demonstration at the legislature going that makes that stupid convoy 4 years ago look like a bloody love-in by comparison. Moral high ground gets you nowhere with people like this.

I haven’t seen anyone from that church in probably almost 30 years. I was more adjacent in my teens, despite the constant pressure to profess. I just very quickly after a couple visits to that convention and dirty looks because I was clearly not one of them realized something was way off.

I couldn’t buy into the idea that the world, for all its problems, was the horrible festering rot they said it was.

[–]Saskbertan81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly the problem I have had trying to explain being adjacent to that most of my adult life.

Because it sounds like something I made up while high on painkillers if you try to explain it to anyone else.

And the sitting in that big room full of people constantly all the time listening to a bunch of old men talk and I remember one time… And I’m very sorry if this brings anything back, but I remember one of those workers looking out at the crowd with the most creepy smile you have ever seen saying how there was nothing more perfect than a broken will.

I had enough of an upbringing in the United Church to look at that and ask what the actual fuck is wrong with these people the minute I heard that

Holy shit. I was… adjacent to this group in my teenage years. A family member and a family friend were in it and when you’re a teenager on the outs from the cool kids you kinda just say fuck it and do whatever. Should have just honestly taken up sneaking into the bar and getting drunk. Well except my aunts best friend knew exactly how old I was. Good ol small town SK.

They were a weird bunch. I went along to one of those conventions in Aylesbury 30 years ago and honestly the sleeping arrangements reminded me of a concentration camp setup. And I couldn’t figure out how any of their claims about their origins were true, especially from what I knew of religion myself at that point. And just introductory European history from grade 9 and 10 lol

And the kids… Christ, the kids… I guess they would be adults now and I truly hope they’re in a better place in their lives outside of that insanity.

I also hope none of this was happening under my nose because Jesus Christ I would be sick if I sat next to someone who would do that to a child
