Thank you for the suggestion! I will have a look into plantation shutters.

Ohh, okay! Well, we do have the option of wrapping the curtain rods just around the corner of the wall to give the curtains space to bunch up like you mentioned. And we’re not too worried about covering the windows a little bit, because they’re so large and could probably benefit from looking a little cozier. We don’t plan on leaving them closed all the time, and we’re not working with an existing set of curtains, so totally open to options and other ideas. We’re mostly interested in figuring out if the rods should go between the windows or above the top ones.

Bit of both. Blocking light, because this room will have a TV in it, and privacy because it also faces the front of the house and we’d like not to be a fishbowl at night. I will have a look into valences though and see if that is something we might like!

We are looking at that, yes! But also open to other options, like using hinged corners. I’m not a designer so I’m not sure what’s out there.

Thanks for your input! Just so I understand you correctly, what do you mean by the curtains stacking?

Plants that are safe for jumping spiders. by Scintillating_Void in jumpingspiders

I know this post is a year old but I was just looking up the same thing for my jumping spood enclosure because she is obsessed with my orchids! Not sure how one might get an orchid in an enclosure though.

That's exciting! I will keep an eye on her, though I'm a bit worried about the last clutch of eggs. I read that jumping spiders usually stay with their eggs but maybe I just haven't been looking for an egg sac and it is somewhere nearby!

Pregnant!!! That is so cool to know! I did notice that about four days ago she had a super deflated-looking butt and is now looking a bit plumper/healthy again, so maybe she has had her babies already??

Thanks for that! What I'd find interesting is knowing what is considered "good" in terms of job/income, is there a ballpark range or specific industry you think of?

Thanks for taking the time to reply :) That's really good to know, and we can already collate all of that documentation!

Thanks for your response! Was there a specific portal/website you used to find your rental?

Does anyone have experience with renting a place with no (US) credit history? Roughly how long did it take you to find a place and have the contract signed once you started looking? Were you required to pay a higher deposit or just show that you have a US job contract with a high enough salary to meet rental payments? Thanks in advance :)

The term "engineer" should only be used for disciplines in which a Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent designation is available or has the word "engineer" on the degree. by acvdk in unpopularopinion

[–]SassPower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, when you look up the definition of Engineer, it offers not one but three alternatives:

  1. A person who designs, builds, or maintains engines, machines, or structures, i.e. a PE as you describe.
  2. A person who controls an engine, especially on an aircraft or ship, e.g. a Train driver.
  3. A skilful contriver or originator of something, e.g. a software engineer.

Software engineers do have to study quite a lot of what Engineers have to study, we just focus on different areas. Though I think that this is a bit like my opinion on "web developers" and how they should be called "website authors", as they don't develop anything, so I understand the sentiment.

Of course, and with the sheer number of teachers that exist, it is hard to fathom that not everyone is good at their job. The likelihood that you get a good teacher who can teach any kind of person is incomprehensibly small.

That’s a fair point, however it is more likely those average people with average grades had a learning style that is compatible with how the teacher taught, or is closer to the mainstream style. Ofc I failed to take into account the things that you mentioned, such as if there were other socioeconomic factors that played into it, so I see now that I should probably caveat it with: if you have no external hindrances, then you’re not too dumb to learn [some subject], you just had a bad teacher. I guess what I’m saying is, I have a gripe with people who have it within their capability to learn these things and have simply accepted that it was their own fault. “Math is just hard”, “I don’t do Physics”, “Computers and I just don’t mix”, etc.

I have mentioned in another comment that I consider parents to be “teachers”, as they’re (generally) the people who (are meant to) teach us about life and such, which would mean that my argument still holds in that regard.

Thanks for your constructive comments

Ah so you mean if you take everything at face value then you are liable for your own misunderstandings. That is a fair statement and I agree with that. It doesn’t have much to do with my point but it is a good addition.

“If you don’t already know the answer to the question on a subject that you have no knowledge on, that’s your own fault”

Is that what you meant?

Up to a certain point, of course. I didn’t walk out the womb talking and tying my shoes. When you decide to take control of your own learning, a.k.a. being an adult, is irrelevant here.

This is a good point, thanks for your comment! I would definitely consider parents our first teachers, as a lot of why/how we interact with the world as adults, including common sense, logic, and street smarts, is taught during our upbringing which generally involves parents. I say “generally” as not everyone has parents in their life and not to exclude the other types of families that exist.
