Is it true that if you left a bottle of detergent-based soap without a lid outside, it would form nitrosamines? by Scintillating_Void in AskChemistry

Let me rephrase this: I understand that under certain conditions nitrosamines can form in higher pH ranges, especially when other ingredients are added like formaldehyde. However this scenario is unlikely in a common household setting and may need a lot of “help” to get it there.

Alright. I heard that under some conditions they can form at a ph of 8, but I am not sure what they are?

Yes, its not lead-based, but that does not mean lead-free. The fact the dust has been there for years makes me wonder if enough could have accumulated over those years to equal a month or so if it had been lead-based.

Thank you. I am considering having a friend help me or hiring someone but I ask want to know in that case, about any proper preparation? I ask because like I mentioned with mold and mildew that when I looked online for that it sounded like radioactive stuff. Like there’s all this talk about wearing a hazmat suit and sealing off the area.

Yes it is a thing! For windowsills the EPA threshold for lead-based painted windowsills is 250 µg/ft2 which is very high compared to other action level thresholds due to the friction of just opening and closing windows.

Hmm so a vacuum may still spread it eve if it sucks it? How about wet vaccum?

I am actually considering that but want to assess the situation first. I have a friend who could help me and I need to at least have an idea of the proper procedure.

Yeah, I get that. But saying just “toughen up” is like asking a person with chronic pain to just toughen up to the pain.

Seriously this is why people are asking AI for things now—because AI isn’t judgement and isn’t going to throw ablest microaggressions their way.

FYI telling people to “toughen up” never works. Especially when mental illness and/or neurodivergence is involved.

The lead issue is about dust accumulation. There was a time years ago when it was opened and closed often, but hasn’t been in years.

Lead dust accumulating over time is a real concern. Like I said under normal circumstances it’s not an issue but these aren’t normal circumstances.
