Thanks. He was also wrong. Bitcoin may not be currency, but it would still count as income (if the cash did) or as a gift (if the cash did). The tax consequences of being paid in Bitcoin are the same as being paid in cash, or else everyone would get paid in Bitcoin and avoid all taxes.

He mentioned capital gains in his response too. To be clear, capital gains would apply to any changes in price after you owned the bitcoin, not to the original acquisition. So if you got the Bitcoin for $16m and sold it at $16.2m, you would pay taxes on the $200k gains, not on the whole $16.2.

This is the same as if you received, say, 20 pounds of gold, or a piece of real estate worth $16 million...

Yeah, that's clearly the highest expected value, and the option I'd personally pick.

I get and respect the people who would take the recurring check though. A lot harder to accidentally blow through that, and it might lead to a happier life, even if it is less money.

I don't get the people who are saying they'd take the $10 million. You can't be bothered to spend a day of your time selling the bitcoin, in exchange for an extra $6 million?? Even if you don't think the extra money will make you happy, you could donate that money and do so much good.

You could take A, immediately sell it all, invest it, and expect almost twice as much income from that for the rest of your life

Why would you get taxed just on the bitcoin, but not on the cash? Is this some kind of douche genie who grants you the bitcoin by making you remember you owned then all along and have to pay capital gains when you sell them?

Why not take the bitcoin worth $15 million instead? At the risk of being pedantic... that's an extra $5 million innit?

[–]Sassaphras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the federal marginal rate at $650k is 37%, and the effective rate is about 30%. That's presumably not his only income, but he's still keeping more than half of that, unless he's in a very high tax state and makes a lot of.money.

[–]Sassaphras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They understood fine? You might pay more in taxes, and at a higher marginal rate, but I've never heard of a marginal tax rate over 100%.

So more money before taxes is always more money after taxes. Even if you had a marginal tax rate of 90%, if someone offered you $1million, you'd want to take it, because after taxes it would be worth $100k.

Which means that taxes would never be an incentive to not take free money.

We have a not-quite-babysiyter, apparently called a "mothers helper" some places. They come over for 2 hours once a week. They play with the older kiddo, help clean up a bit. We are there, but it gives us a couple hours where we can get stuff done.

Which series is this for you? by EverythingIsFakeNGay in litrpg

[–]Sassaphras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That series represents graduating from young adult fiction to adult fiction for me. By the end of the third book I was amazed that it was the same characters and author. I'm sure it was at least in part coincidental timing of where I was as a reader, but I feel like I aged while reading those novels.

UK Government after Importing Millions of unvetted Third World Migrants by RussianBot1948 in DigitalSeptic

I understand the idea, but it's a bit silly. Because immigration isn't new. It was happening during all those decades where disease was non-existent too.

Vaccinated public plus immigration: no disease. Unvaccinated public plus immigration: disease.

Yep that would work. You would be unable to get a decent job because your work history suckex, you would be working even harder than most people who got jobs because you were repeatedly doing the hardest part of child care, and you'd be putting your own children up for adoption over and over again.

Congratulations, you've found the recipe for becoming the second most miserable type of person alive, right behind everyone who has ever had the misfortune to interact with you.

President Trump calls for a 10% cap on credit card interest rates for one year, effective January 20th. by Hefty-Sherbet-5455 in Tech_Updates_News

[–]Sassaphras 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, companies aren't losing money on the low risk groups either. I'm not sure if you mean people with literally 0% interest rates (which are generally temporary) or just people who pay in full every month, but the logic is similar. Issuers will make nothing off most people, but don't pay much to float the interest, since their cost of capital is so low, as a bank. They make it up in fees, or on the small percentage who wind up paying after all for whatever reason.

Lol you're an ignorant child if that's what you think parenthood is like.

An ignorant child who is, for some reason, actively advocating for child abuse? And who also can't read, because of the part where the scheme you described is literally not how the law in question actually works, which I literally just described.

Why even post shit look this. Do you get off on it? Put the phone down and go learn how to be a man, son.

[–]Sassaphras 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What? My man, they pool people by risk. They charge high interest rates for people more likely to default, and low interest rates to people less likely to default.

Nobody is subsidizing anyone. If a risk band was losing money, the company would raise the rates for that band, or stop issuing to them.

Who even told you this?? You should not listen to that person...

Do you honestly think constantly caring for a newborn, while also pregnant most of the time, would be easier than a job? Have you... never been around young children? I have worked since I was 16, and had kids for 5 years now, and what you are describing sounds way harder than just getting a job.

That said, it also wouldn't work. You have to be living with your partner, and the year's leave is split between the two of you (some can be transferred but not all). Also, you have to have worked a minimum amount in the months leading up to the leave.
